next trip will be from Sioux Falls, Sd to Joburg on Delta but the thing that sucks is I will have a 10 hour layover in Atlanta before continuing on. would I have to claim my bag and gun case or will it just be checked thru? have never flown Delta or had this long of a layover please advise me thanks

You making the arrangements? If instead you're using a travel agent, then just ask 'em.

Your baggage and guns can be checked all the way through to JNB from your initial airport. You don’t need to handle any of it in ATL because you’re on Delta the whole route.

As Wildcatter indicated, your luggage will be checked all the way through.

If you are nervous about it, there is a manned counter that you can check with Delta to make sure that there are no hiccups.

I had about the same delay and Delta checked my luggage and gun case all the way through. I asked the Delta Agent if there were any issues and they indicated it was all set. Everything made it to Joberg.
