Anyone know of decent sable in South Africa that is not put and take?

Preferably close to the Eastern Cape.

And do not answer Hunters Hill. That place is nothing but put and take. They shouldn’t even be considered hunting outfitters.

Well, you could take a look at Grant Abrahamson' East Cape Safaris.

Just so happens he's in town today and we're gonna grab some coffee and catch up.

I'll ask him how's the Sable lately.

If it's in the Eastern Cape, my sense is that it's probably put and take.

Out of Richards Bay is a place. They do not hunt on Sunday’s

Is that too far out for you.

They also do photo tours in the near by parks.

I'll be based near Cathcart (near Queenstown). It would seem Richard's Bay is about the same distance as the Northwest Province where someof the "free range" sable are situated.

Exactly why I am asking. There are always places that differ from the norm.

Hunter's Hill is the worst I know of for put and take hunting of many, if not most species.

That being said, I think I've taken 17 different species in the Eastern Cape and not one was on a put and take ranch. All were raised on the ranches as wild. I wouldn't have it anyother way.

I could have shot a sable the last trip, but it stood near a water trough. It would have been about as exciting as shooting a saddle horse. That farm had dozens of sable, but they were breeding them to sell to other hunting ranches. I''m not sure why that lone sable was miles away from the other sable which were near the houses for protection.

As far as I am aware all sable in RSA are put and take. If you want to take sable that are actually sable and not livestock then you need to look farther north.

There's put and take where the animals are brought into a property and hunted, then there are properties where animals are stocked and generations are born and hunted on said property.

Not sure if I made that clear.

I believe we have a property where the herd bull has been kicked out of the herd by younger bulls. We will be searching the hills for that old former herd bull. My understanding is that this property is very large.

Evert has had awesome Sable on his property for years. It's a high fence in the northern transvaal near Bela Bela but when I was there in 2008 they had Sable that were born in the bush on the farm. Great place to hunt.

I’ve hunted a few sables. The only way to do it in SA is to hunt in northern Limpopo. Proper bush veld. Check out Bandur Safaris or Shakawa Safaris. I can vouch for them. It’s really big farms and sables have run there since the 80’s. Really good people and respected outfitters for decades.
