Anyone familiar with these? They make solids with a cutting edge. Supposedly superior to expanding bullets. I was talking to a PH on Facebook who was out patrolling for snares with a Marlin Guide Gun 45-70. He told me he was using a 225 grain Impala solid and runs that same bullet from the smaller antelope all the way to Eland. Since the cutting edge is not out on the tip I really don't understand how they work so well?

Why would you want a solid for plains game unless you are doing a cull for smaller animals like springbuck and making neck or neck shots?

There are plenty of appropriate bullets available in North America. You don't NEED South African bullets. Having examined the cost of mailing a document to SA, I'd hate to see the shipping costs for some bullets.

To me they look like a bullet that is trying to use a blunt Keith style profile but moving it back towards the middle for a more streamlined bullet profile upfront.

Maybe it works to some extent or maybe it’s pure gimmick? I can’t imagine the “cutting edge” cutting due to sharpness so much as basic blunt impact of any high speed projectile going through tissue.

I have no idea if that’s the case or not but that was my impression when looking at the bullets in the link provided.

That's what I thought too. I just can't imagine it being very effective especially in .30 and under. Their bullet damage pics look impressive though

I answered to help you avoid going down the rabbit hole of trying to obtain a bullet that is not required given the plethora of fine bullets we have on this side of the pond. It was not clear to me that you were not trying to obtain the bullets for your use. They would be an expensive proposition. South African are not readily available in NA. Shipping is horrendous.

If you were just wondering how they work, I’m surprised your PH Facebook friend didn’t explain them to you. An Email to the manufacturer could also be in order.
