Good morning,

Does anyone have recommendations on an outfitter and length of hunt for Cape Buffalo in Zimbabwe?

The outfitter I used (a good guy based in Namibia) raised his prices, and I would Like to get some additional quotes.

Thanks in advance.
I hunted with Threeways Safaris in Zimbabwe in 2012 with my father. Their main buffalo concession is located just across the river from Kruger and we each took very nice buffalo and had a great time during a 12 day hunt. Last I heard, their typical buffalo hunt is 10 days.

If they can't accommodate you, or if your heart isn't set on a Zimbabwe hunt, my place in South Africa is offering a 7x day buffalo hunt package for $13,000. The hunting area is also located just outside of Kruger and clients take some great buffalo there each year. Our success rate is very high.

If you would like more details on either place, don't hesitate to PM me.

Nixon D at SSG Safaris. He has the Malapati area, and Sengwe 1 & 2 down on the Limpopo for later in the season. Here's one I took in his Malapati area...lots of 1-3 Buff Dugga Boy groups coming out of Gonarazhou Park.

Beautiful old buff. What's the rifle and load?

John Sharp Safaris out of Bulawayo. He hunts the Bubye.

Rolly, that's a Mauser M03 take-down with the 416 Remington barrel on it. On both hunts this year, I used a Blaser Safari Pro in 375 H&H and 458 Lott.

Our buffalo with Threeways Safaris. The one on the left went 42" and the one on the right measured 37" and had 17" bosses.

Three Ways is a good outfit. One of their PHs, Quinn Kloppers was an "Appie" with John Sharp when we hunted with him. GREAT guy!

Small world: Quinn was our PH when we went there in 2012. I get the impression that he handles most of the day-to-day operations for Threeways these days.

Here's another one taken at SSG in Malapati by my friend on the same hunt...but a tad under 50"

Yow! one could hunt a lifetime and never even get close to that caliber of buffalo!

BGH: Quinn is a GREAT individual.

Jorge, Butch (BEGNO) just got back from the same camp with a 44" Buff.

Wow! they must feed them well there Biebs! smile

The river is just about dry, so they meander over from Gonarezhou Reserve. You never know what you'll see on any given day. Same area that Bobby (Duxdog) took his 92 lb Ele last year, the week before I arrived.

Just saw this thread.

Wow! Big time buff and a classic look. Some wouldn't like the boss not grown in or no wear on the hooks, so it might be a youngish bull, but I'd have zapped him in a NY minute.

Yup, hard to pass up a 50".

So That's how Gustav's buff from last year looked like. Congratulations to him and thanks to you, Biebs for sharing.
Best,
Jess

Hey Jess! I didn't know you frequented 24 Hr. Yes, it was a monster, for sure.

Sure do - as often as I can. It's a great site!

That is one ugly dugga boy, the buffalo is beautiful by comparison.

TURD!!!!! :-)

Everytbody is too nice to you on the campfire. Somebody has to take charge.

That is a seriously baddass buffalo. I really want to shoot a scrum cap next. I love hunting the old buffalo.

Mike, the key is to give up tracking herds. If you stick to only following the tracks of 1-4 Buff, you're pretty sure that when you catch up to them, they'll be old, worn-out outcasts like this guy.

This is the oldest buffalo I have killed. Just have not come across a scrum cap yet.

Get a hold of Martin Pieters. Top notch hunting. Was there hunting a year ago today! Dad and I shot nice bulls.

Nice old bull!

Is a 'scrum cap' one where the upturns have been completely worn off?

If so, I saw one and tried to get him, but he didn't want to be 'got' grin

Did you try and entice him with your leopard print thong?

I'm sure he would have come a running! grin

This will bring him out of the thick jess for a look:

Like to see that leopard going for the bait,,,,,,
I recently ran across this video of a buffalo charge. Though it takes place in Mozambique, not Zimbabwe, it's still interesting and shows how quickly things can go wrong out there. Some good shooting by the PH at the end. Anybody familiar with that outfitter?

Yes, JP Kleinhans is here from our area in the Eastern Cape.

Shaun Buffee Safaris. Hunt on the BVC. Believe 10 days is minimum for buffalo.

BVC is a million acres absolutely covered in game. Great place and Shaun is terrific.

Track-A-Hunt Safaris with Corris Ferreira in the Gache Gache Campfire Area. Stay away from Martin Pieters. Omay is shot out. PM me for details

Ahh, may I ask how you know that over 2 million acres in the Omay North/South is "shot out"? I've hunted with Martin, and he is a stand up guy. He's very conscious of quotas. Many people have had fantastic hunts with Martin and his crew. I'd recomend him in a heartbeat.

I have hunted the Omay three times and was successful each time. The buffalo I posted previously in this thread came from the Omay. I also took a leopard during the day there.

Martin and Company have taken some nice lions recently due to conservation efforts over the last several years.

It can be a difficult place to hunt. There are areas that are flat and easy but it is best to be in good shape for the Omay. It is a difficult place for a non-resident PH just to show up and hunt.

Could you elaborate why you feel it is "shot" out?
