Bet he still has his Cabela's safari shirt. Bet it does't fit anymore, but bet he still has it.
Actually I don't still have it, because it didn't fit.
I had a treadmill and it really worked!
I hung the shirt on the handle bars and by god it shrunk!
Where do you want to go Jason?
I just saw a varmint hunt in the Cape for Vervets and baboons.....
Hmmm, I don't know.
The Cape is a possibility...I'm open to suggestions! I will even get you a new butt-out tool!
Well, theres also some cull hunts out there. And Id like to do a trip with the .223AI where I only shoot the smaller stuff...Impala, blesbok, springbok etc.( I don't shoot the really little stuff like steinbok etc...) But we could add warthogs and baboons too.
That could be fun....you shoot the ittle stuff, I shoot da biguns!
That could be fun....you shoot the ittle stuff, I shoot da biguns!
That might work!
Your treat, right?
Wrongamundo!
I thought it would be fitting for the young buck to foot the bill so the old mentor could see his beloved Africa one more time.....
No butt-out tool for you!
Thats what I was hoping you'd say!
I'll have to get you a bubba buddy instead!
Theres a fine line between satire and cruelty, and you just crossed it....
Maybe, if we work this right, we can get donations from the great campfire members!
That might be pushing things a tad......
It can be a virtual hunt...they pay for the trophy fees, we send them photos!
No...we gotta really go and shoot stuff with real guns!
Damn!
Ok, get the cob webs out and start plotting! Can I take her?
NO!
You should know by now that redheads scare me!
Maybe, if we work this right, we can get donations from the great campfire members!
I'll donate my time, to go over there and keep you clowns out of trouble.
I thought since it is going to be the hunt and adventure of a lifetime, we should go all out!
Maybe, if we work this right, we can get donations from the great campfire members!
I'll donate my time, to go over there and keep you clowns out of trouble.
I might could use that....got in trouble a couple times over there...
They blew up my car and motel one night, and there was a little shooting, and another time there was just plain shooting, but more of it
You could be my point man!
Y'all are going to need a chaplain as I can assure you that sins are going to abound!!
I thought since it is going to be the hunt and adventure of a lifetime, we should go all out!
Yeah....but a
redhead???Thats REALLY dangerous!
Y'all are going to need a chaplain as I can assure you that sins are going to abound!!
Start praying now Rev!

I probably ought to light a candle. On second thought, maybe I ought to just set fire to the bell tower.
Cool JG and Rev Mike!
What possible debauchery could we get in?
On second thought, maybe I ought to just set fire to the bell tower.
^^^^
This.
And maybe sacrifice a couple goats...and a cow.
How are we going to get Mooochele away from secret service.
That was mean-spirited.
But the answer is I don't know. I saw their K9s on the news last night...they can run faster than me.
Too disrespectful to cows?
Yes!
On second thought, I may have to reconsider my offer....
On second thought, I may have to reconsider my offer....
Oh, come on!
It'll be fun!
That pic is of JeffO before he bailed on us...
I am willing to trade a PD safari for a return favor of a Cape Buffalo hunt. Contact me with the solution...
LMAO......"fun" means different things to different people you know. I would love to hunt with a couple of legends though. Can you talk MD into coming too?
Maybe, if we work this right, we can get donations from the great campfire members!
You and Poopbah need to form a quartet. Record CDs. Then, you'll mysteriously be stricken with terrible ailments - possibly fatal - and ask for donations to your cause (with quartet CDs and hunting pics promised to each contributor).
It can't miss.
I'm a legend in my own mind....does that count?
On second thought, I may have to reconsider my offer....
Oh, come on!
It'll be fun!
Dooooooood!
Maybe, if we work this right, we can get donations from the great campfire members!
You know, people do generally support mission trips. And even missionaries have to protect themselves from man-eaters, hence the need to take arms. Just sayin'.

No guts, no glory...
LMAO......"fun" means different things to different people you know. I would love to hunt with a couple of legends though. Can you talk MD into coming too?
Dunno if I can talk him into going with me again. He suffered through a couple weeks of me...to get him to do it again would be asking too much!
And on the topic of fun...its always fun if you live through it and don't get hurt too bad....
Maybe, if we work this right, we can get donations from the great campfire members!

The " Mission Trip" excuse is a little lame....I think its been used before....

Man, I'm hoping not!!
Uh, I might need to provide adult supervision. Ingwe, this ain't the old days when you received medals for popping terrorists. They now run the joint. They have cold beer and biltong....
Damn. And there was no trophy fee on them back in the day....
This could be a great group!
Uh, I might need to provide adult supervision. Ingwe, this ain't the old days when you received medals for popping terrorists. They now run the joint. They have cold beer and biltong....
Can I bring my beer holder?
yes. Will it hold more than one?
Now, if I could only find a beer holder with red hair!
No...blonde is just right....
I'll bring along some of these for you....
No...blonde is just right....
Yes, it should!!!!!
I'll bring along some of these for you....
OK...in all fairness, we should discuss gun bearers...
I like this one.
Dat will work!!
Here is my choice.
Is that a culling belt?
Did I fail the gay test?
It could be, she tells me she would rather carry .223 a I rounds!
Soooooo....that would be perfect for my earlier idea of just shooting the small stuff.
Sign her up!
and I want the shoot the big stuff....
She'll do!
Now THATS Dangerous game!
OK you guys have to start all over ....too many fouls in this thread!
My guides are the best choice..
You have to be kidding or
You have to be kidding or
Only slightly.
Ok, enough of the games! Let's get this expedition going!
I was in Namibia in 2010 had a great time, would like to see someplace different, if possible.
Damn! And I was thinking Namibia!
Not a fan of RSA, and the kind of stuff I want to do I don't think is available in Zim.
We have to think of something!
I could do Namibia again, certainly wouldn't complain.
Uganda?
If you wouldn't complain about Namibia, pick a part of the country you haven't seen.....
Uganda...no...not yet....
If they would institute a direct flight from the states to Windhoek...Id be soooooo there!
Luangwa is calling, Nyalubwe.
If you wouldn't complain about Namibia, pick a part of the country you haven't seen.....
Uganda...no...not yet....
If they would institute a direct flight from the states to Windhoek...Id be soooooo there!
Dat would be the bomb!
I was south of Windhoek, so either north west/east.
Zambia would be cool too.
From what I've heard, the Bishop may pass out when he sees the sticker price on that one...
DF
Actually, he'd pass out if he heard I was traveling outside of Florida. He knows I don't get around much.
Jason...Im thinking the Kalahari....east of where you were.....
The only way I could afford Mozambique is if they would take my $50 million Zim dollars even up....
Isn't that where the Trump boys hunted?
They sure caught Hell in NYC after their big Safari, killing all those critters.
Their stock went up in my book after I read about that.
DF
The Kalahari would be cool!
Check out tjsafaris......
I'd go back to Namibia in a heartbeat. No kidding. I know Poobah, you told me so, and you were right !
I'd go back to Namibia in a heartbeat. No kidding. I know Poobah, you told me so, and you were right !
Who did you hunt with?
Kowas Safaris. World class folks.
I just checked them out...they look great. I like the way their site is set up. Straightforward. Also...they have a non-trophy package for us old farts that just want to do some culling and not take stuff home......
Give them a look Jason.
I almost get a woody thinking about that non hunting pkg, and throwing in a trophy kudu.
Think about it.....
Thats all Ive done my last two trips...well..that and look for snakes....
But theres no expense or worry about getting anything but your butt and your rifle home!
Right on again pard! Another good thing for Jason is he can check them out in Dallas this coming January @ DSC. Problem is, they stay pretty full.
Hey Ingwe, it ain't Africa but I'm sitting in a stand about to pop one of your Florida pigs. But I am wearing a safari shirt and pants. Does that count?

They do have three of the animals I want, Eland, Leopard and Duiker!
I have plenty of hogs on my lease, you are welcome anytime!
You too RevMike!
Wild boar, a 7x57, and Jack Daniels. Almost as good as Africa!
BIL already has one down. Time to sharpen the knives.
Wild boar, a 7x57, and Jack Daniels. Almost as good as Africa!
Is there a Randall Knife involved there anywhere?
Wild boar, a 7x57 275 Rigby, and Jack Daniels. Almost as good as Africa!
Fixed it for ya!
There we go!
No Poobs, just the same old Gerber I've always used.
There we go!
No Poobs, just the same old Gerber I've always used.
Upgrade needed!
Funny thing about that: it works.
Yeah but so do a lot of pedestrian calibers...but you opted for the 7x57....
I have Schrades that 'work'.....
but I have a Randall thats part and parcel of my soul...
Hang on, I have a boar that's trying to make his way out of the scrub.
This is a campfire knife....worked good on the Kudu last time.
I got a couple from Vince that would be Uber!
Never could get the big fellow out in the clear for a shot. BIL's pig was odd, though. He was a boar, about 135 pounds or so. I took the backstraps off then turned him over to start on the hams. I noticed that his groin looked swollen, and when I cut along the line inside his left rear leg, there was a hole in the abdomen. His innards he leaked into has abdomen. Needless to say, it was all totally infected. This pig had peritonitis and didn't even know it!
Oddly, he had no external injuries. At first I thought he was gutshot, but there were no external wounds. The only thing I can figure is that he was injured in a fight with another boar. Anyone have any other ideas?
Yeah but so do a lot of pedestrian calibers...but you opted for the 7x57....
I have Schrades that 'work'.....

True. I have four 7x57s. Should an unknown rich uncle die, I'll have five...and a Randall as well. Till then, I'll use either my Gerber or Buck skinner. Pedestrian? Yep...but so am I.
Decide anything yet? Where'd you two finally land?
Nothing yet.....Im not even awake.
Not awake? I'm already looking for someone to go to lunch with.
I can't get there in time....
besides, your credibility factor would plummet if you were seen with a consummate heathen.
Ingwe, I have some pretty close friends who could probably teach you a thing or two. I wasn't always a priest, so not much shocks me.
I actually bid on a custom Mauser G33/40 last night. Caliber unknown, but "probably" a 7x57. I didn't win, the other guy clearly wanted it badly.

You know, I got to thinkin' about this. You admitted to wearing tennis shoes on an African safari, and you're chiding me because I use the same old Gerber I've used for years to skin out a pig? There's something about a pot and a kettle in that.
Just asked the GS to stamp it that way!
How about some specs. Nice looking rig. You gonna take that to Namibia?
It started life as a Ruger M77 30.06 ultra light. Had it rebarreled with a Douglas #1 at 23". Karnis reshaped the stock.
I may, I just picked up a Winchester Pre 64, that I may have done similar.
I currently, have a 1909 action getting done up in .350 Rigby, so I really want to take it!
That's a nice rifle. Karnis doing the Rigby? I don't see much posting out of him anymore. Folks on the 'fire run him off?
Carlos is not doing this one.
No, he hasn't been run off, just going through some medical issue and doesn't feel like posting much. I will see him today.
Sorry to hear that. He's never met me, but if you would, give him my best when you see him. He's a talented fellow.
I certainly will!
He is very talented, indeed!
Yeah but so do a lot of pedestrian calibers...but you opted for the 7x57....

You're a Rev.......have you never heard of preaching " Do as I say...not as I do..."......?
Jason, say Hi to Carlos for me too!
You're a Rev.......have you never heard of preaching " Do as I say...not as I do..."......?
Glad to see you got out of bed.
Yeah, I've heard that, but it has less to do with being a minister than it has to do with being a parent.
Soooo...I might make a good parent?
I know I wouldn't make a good minister....
Stranger things have happened.
I kinda tried being a parent. ( married a woman with kids..)
I think I'd make a better minister. I abhor children.

I prefer dogs.
I could do Keerweder again, I'm pretty sure they have access to other areas to hunt.
Looks OK Jason....its extremely close, if not part of, the Kalahari.
Yep and Ina is a great cook!
They have an abundance of springbok too!
Hey Ingwe, you gonna take some of this with you to make the experience authentic?
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/9-186650
140s in a .275 Rigby......please....
Thats borderline gay.
Wasn't the 140 the original Kynoch "high speed" load?
Scratch that. The Kynoch was the 173 grain load; the 140 was Rigby's proprietary high speed load.
Ok, Poobs any others we need to look at?
They look good!
Gots my leopard!
I just watched a show on Bubbavision where they had to follow up a wounded leopard. It tried to get the PH...I had flashbacks!
Cool!
That is why I am taking a .350 Rigby, Leopard fear it!
+1.
Somebody told me they were pretty good.....
Ok, Poobs any others we need to look at?
Boddington says go to Mozambique. Costs what an SUV costs, he says.
I just bought an SUV last year.
So......
No.

There are still some Yugos out there...
Strapping a dear to a Yugo....Uber!
I've been waiting to see how y'all are going to play this.
I've been waiting to see how y'all are going to play this.
ME TOO!!!!!
First of all, I think Rev. Mike should go.....
And secondly Im laying it in Jason's lap cause he still has stuff on his list he needs to find and kill.
I have found what look to be good cull hunts for me, mostly in RSA...but Im avoiding them for now....
You guys work it out, and come up with something tempting...
Damn you!
I guess I will have to find the outfitter that has a hot red haired ladies, as PH's!!
And I agree, The Rev has to go!!
That may serve to keep you and the redheads from sinning....
Both Cape and Leopard are on my list...but I feel Cape will always be there, so Leopard and Eland will work for me.
That may serve to keep you and the redheads from sinning....
Hmm, may have to rethink this!
Dats an expensive safari.....
Look at northern Namibia....if a Cape Eland would work.
Ize, only lives once!
I liked Reveille, if they have a cull hunt for you?
That may serve to keep you and the redheads from sinning....
Hmm, may have to rethink this!
Never fear, guys; my passport isn't up to date. Hasn't been since about 1977. But how many redheads can possibly be in Namibia? Is she what you have in mind?
You had to post that photo didn't you....ingwe will be hiding under the bed for at least a week!
Hmm, I know it is RSA but,
great deal
You had to post that photo didn't you....ingwe will be hiding under the bed for at least a week!
Evidently you were right!!
I hope he didn't go back in the closet!
Ize, only lives once!
I liked Reveille, if they have a cull hunt for you?
I will look....
Do you have their price list? A lot of times it will mention 'non=trophy' stuff on it....
I do not...I'll see if I can get it.
I just got a note from the red-headed chick. She said if Ingwe's in, she is too.
I just got a note from the red-headed chick. She said if Ingwe's in, she is too.
JGR recommended Kowa and I looked at them...a distinct possibility but with the culls on the list Id have to carry a big gun, like a 7x57!
Fast twist .223 shooting 75Amax and I will back you up with the .275 as the heavy!!!
Nope! 55 gr. TTSX all the way...the 7x57 will still be the heavy...
Ok, then I will load mine up with the 139GMX.....
ok, ok...the 162 should do well!
Be sure to pick up some of the Hornady brass that's stamped ".275 Rigby." If y'all are going to do it, do it right.
You're right...I'll start searching for some!
By the way, Rev, it only takes about 4 weeks to get your passport!
The gauntlet has been laid!
Tempting!
The Hornady Rigby loads are finally hitting the shelves. I haven't bought any but might just to see what they do.
Can I bring these?
Can I bring these?
No, they are prohibited. However, out of the kindness of my heart, I will store them for you in my safe until I deem them legal once again.
Can I bring these?
No...only a Neanderthal would scope a double...
If they were mine you could!!
No...only a Neanderthal would scope a double...
Seriously? They're in detachable mounts. Good grief!! Two 7x57 double rifles and you're pi$$in' because they're carrying scopes that together cost more than my truck!! Sheesh!!
I actually meant to say Cro-magnan..........
Its like putting lace on a bowling ball. Even if its hand made lace tatted together by beautiful virginal young women...it still doesn't belong on a bowling ball....
But what about other balls?
I actually meant to say Cro-magnan..........

Well, with the way my eyes are now, I'm not going to be shooting much of anything without a scope, one barrel or two.
Me either....but I will stick with the bolt gun rather than molest a nice double by putting a scope on it. ( As if I could afford the double OR the scope...)

Me and you both. I actually like the looks of an express or stalking bolt action with quarter rib, leaf sights, and nice WR-style protected front sight. But functionally it's all pretty lost on me.
Here is another one that looks good, I will have to check to see if there is Leopard...
Agarob Hunting

Agarob Hunting This looks like a family oriented place. You sure Ingwe is going to be comfortable there?
Not if there's children....
Here is another one to look at...
Etosha heights
I noticed that...
You guys are gonna have your work cut out for you convincing me to actually do this....
There's even a redhead for you!
Can DF and I come along? I'd like a big male baboon plus I'm good in the market place. I'd like Shrap along too; I'd like to see him take a cape buff with the 222 mag.

We would have to keep you (leopard man) and Shrap separated since baboons and leopards don't get along.

Im just afraid the whole wood/blue/222mag vs. ss/plastic/.223AI thing might be an issue....
Course he shoots with Rancho Loco, so his standards ought to be low enough for me....
Yep, I'd say that is loooooowwwwwww!
[quote=ingwe][quote=George_De_Vries_3rd]
Im just afraid the whole wood/blue/222mag vs. ss/plastic/.223AI thing might be an issue....
I've got that covered. Since original Socko's in the 222s have from 13 to 16 twist barrels, I will throw Shrap off with a 223 AI with a compromise SS barrel but WALNUT stock and a 12 twist barrel instead of the de jure 8 and 9 twist barrels the popular kids have. I'm going for the distraction factor..
This will help him concentrate on the shot shot while mbogo is staring him down.

Love the way you got me a ticket, on Poobah's tab I presume...
I don't have any leopard attire, though. Maybe I can borrow an outfit...

That "dignity" handle sounds like a poison pill.
I don't wanna be the odd man out...

Dignity's in pretty short supply with this group, huh?
I have plenty to go around, its just not instantly or easily recognizable......
Well then, you'll be the one supplying it! No problem!!

Yea sure, but what's the twist?
Yea sure, but what's the twist?
1:8. Isn't everything on the 'fire 1:8?
True, but those are 8 twists in inches; not feet.
Dang, gonna have to have some work done.
Did I say dignity, I meant debauchery!
The Poobah is too old for debauchery....

I was thinking quarter rib...two feet long.
Would a Thomas Bland takedown in .318 Express work?
Hmmm, well I just brought one home today....
Yeah...pics or it didn't happen!
I don't like the way to talked to me....hurt my feelers....no pictures till tomorrow!
Ingwe: Swahili for Mr Sensitivty.
I don't like the way to talked to me....hurt my feelers....no pictures till tomorrow!
Fill one of these out....
Ha!
I had to make a copy of your Hurt Feelings Report.
DF
Dooood, where do you get this stuff?
I should post that in the confessional.

Yes!

I can understand Poobah and the couch; he's retired and I hope to be in a month and a half - the couch can be real good!
Dooood, where do you get this stuff?
I have a knack...
I even found a pic of me and Ltppowell at a campfire gathering. Pat is the little guy on the left...
Dang, Ingwe, warn a fellow. Maxwell House on the keyboard again.
Ha!
I had to make a copy of your Hurt Feelings Report.
DF
Ha, yea thought about sending the form to our HR department but I'm trying to not be insensitive..
Har! We can see you got to first base, need proof you rounded the bases!
Why does ingwe always have to be the "big monkey"?
DF

That can't be Pat. He's not playing with his nightstick.
Just to make sure Poobah is still alive!!!!!!
You people are deplorable.
Pick a place!!!!!!
You mean a place to go hunting, right?
I already have a gal to drive me to the airport.
If you mean something else, it looks like you already posted a pic of 'the place'...
Waaaaay more than you can afford!!
The only girl I ever found warming my bed on safari was a semi-tame warthog named Oshi Oshi.....
Damn....
Wait a minute....
That probably doesn't sound right....
Oshi knew how to open doors, and would help herself to a nice bed while we were out hunting....
Honest.
Apparently, Oshi knew how to open drawers too!
Ok, I'm sitting here in a stand, holding a 275 Rigby (well, almost), waiting to hear what the two of you have decided.
I have decided Im not going unless you are going...
Hows the 'hot seat' feel now?
Poobah will go.
He could never get enough Oshi Oshi...
;-)
Aw horse poop, you'll go the first chance you get! And I'm always in the hot seat. That's nothing new.
You know, Poobs, it's like this. I can't hunt any of the exotic stuff, but I can hunt the mundane stuff 24/7. Remind me why I want to leave Florida?
Florida is crowded, and hot, and humid. Namibia, in season is cool, dry, wide open spaces...
True. Thanks for the reminder.
The only girl I ever found warming my bed on safari was a semi-tame warthog named Oshi Oshi.....
Damn....
Nice! All those ticks!
As soon as I finish drooling......
Dat's a nice old gun. Isn't that the same thing Bell used to shoot cormorants out of the sky?
Hey Poobs, you know that WR I'm always posting a picture of? I just got a note back from Simon Clode of WR, and he told me that's considered a stalking rifle. I'm waiting to hear back to see what WR considers to be the difference between a stalking rifle and an express rifle. I'm expecting it's what you said before: barrel length, caliber, etc. I'll let you know.
Oh, and by the way, Simon said he took one in .275 Rigby, as well as a .470, on his very first African safari.

Bell was using an 8x57 of some kind...
He really liked the .318 and heavy solids. He said once in awhile an elephant would get out from under a good shot with the 275...figured the bullets veered in the target. He said the 318 never did...
Hmmm...why did I think he was doing that with a .318? My poor mind is getting all muddled.
Point of fact he may have been....the 8x57 WAS a .318 and the 8x57JS was a .323....
Ingwe: according to WR, an express rifle is "...large bore rifles and ammunition, typically used for hunting large or dangerous game at close range." Straight from the horse's mouth.
So here's a herd of rifles, ranging from .250-3000 to .500 Jeffery, some stalking, some express. I'd take these to Africa...if they were mine.
Nice selection of rifles. Notice how many are Mausers.
For a fine working rifle, what else do you need to know?
