Just returned from hunt #4 two months ago, and wishing I were still there. Always interested in what other folks are planning, when, to where, and for what species, and of course what weaponry will accompant them.

I am considering a hunt in Mozambique for Cape Buffalo in 2016, where are you all headed?
2016, I'll be going for Nyala, probably in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa
Namibia.....'16????????
Back to Limpopo in S.A., with the same folks I hunted with this past summer (Cruiser safaris).....hope to go after zebra, waterbuck, warthog, and blesbok the second time around (maybe a hartebeest as well).
Weaponry? My .338 Win. mag (Ruger 77) will go again, but I'm thinking of taking my 6.5x55 Swedish M96 the next time. Hope to get back by 2017 at the latest!
Eastern Cape 18 or 19

A lot of things have to line up
Heading for Mozambique in 2015 for Cape Buffalo, Sable, Waterbuck and ???.

Went to RSA 5 years ago for plains game and want to go back one more time. That time I took a Remington .338 Win Mag for Impala, Nyala, Warthog, Bushbuck, Blesbuck, Oryx, Blue Wildebeast and Kudu.

For Mozambique, I just picked up a Dakota 76 African in .416 Rigby. I will probably take a NULA in 7x57, as well, for the smaller stuff.

Eastern Cape late April early May 2015. 10 days hunting 10 days touring 2days on a beach.
Since I am doing brown bear in 2016 it will likely be 2017 for Africa. Buffalo, likely in Zim. Rifle will be my 416 Rem M70.
Namabia, July 2016,
Been on ONE safari, can't wait to get back,
first one was Eastern Cape,
this time will be Namibia: Eland, Kudu, Zebra, Gemsbok, and maybe Ostrich??

first trip took my SAKO 7mm rem Mag, this one I'd liek to take my SAKO 375 H&H Just because...
I will take the same winchester model 70 in .325 WSM loaded with 200 grain swift a frames I took on my first and only trip in 2009 to Namibia for plains game.
Well if ingwe would get off the couch....I would be happy to tell everyone!
Back to Limpopo with Louis at Spiral Horn Safaris for a buff. That will be my third trip with Louis. The guy rocks...
(Not sure when, yet).
Trip number 9 looking for leopard number three...Namibia next year.

Year after that will probably be Moz for a lion...unless I switch those two due to the current lion clusterfluck!

I hunted Nyala in Natal this year. We passed on bulls that we would probably have taken elsewhere.
I want to go back to South Africa and hunt Cape Buffalo with Pieter Kriel. When depends upon how quickly I can afford it.
Well, if I could afford to go again, it would be back to Zim. I'd go back to the Omay North with Martin Pieters, and hunt Lake Kariba for a monster Hippo, and maybe an out sized croc. Then I'd transfer south and look for an eland and a bush pig. Unfortunately, I don't see it happening......frown

Will travel to RSA next April 2015 to hunt with Huntersgame safaris near Kimberley. I will be accompanied by my wife and only grandchild, Aidan, who will be 13 at that time. This will be our 3rd trip to RSA and perhaps the last. My bucket list includes New Zealand for Tahr and Red Stag. These I want to take before I am too old to climb those blasted steep mountains. MTG
I've about decided to take a "buddy hunt" with a SA PH of my acquaintance. We would tour with only a general plan using his contacts to search out bargains and interesting opportunities, never really knowing from day to day where we would end up next. In the end it may or may not save money, but would add a element of free spirited/ free lance adventure.
I expect Ingwe will be doing his next safari in Montana.
Or more likely, Texas.
I might just buy myself a .375 and Bombay Bowler, then go shoot a Florida pig. That's about as close as I'll get. Think the experience would be the same as Africa?

Actually, with our heat and humidity that'd be more like hunting in India back in the day, wouldn't it?
Yep...that will work.
That's good to know since that's about as close as I'll get. Maybe I'll just use my Mauser, pretend it's a Rigby, and pretend the pigs are man-eaters.

Probably not the same as a kudu in Namibia though.
Kudus in Namibia don't eat people.
They don't??? laugh

I think I'm seeing leopard on someone's radar screen. grin
No. I have had my 'adventure' with leopard eek

And Buffalo.

I think I need to take a 22cf over there and go after the "Tiny Ten" grin
Well, where are you and Jason going?
He still has some big time convincing to do, and he has to talk the airlines into establishing a direct flight to Windhoek...plus he has to talk you in to going to round out the picture...
They sell Jack Daniels in Africa?
No, but they have this stuff called Amarula...... grin
Just checked it out on the "innerweb": that stuff looks like a headache waiting to happen. eek
Hoping to make it back to So Africa 2016. I took my Winchester mod 70 338 last time, I'm thinking my Sako 375 H&H this next time.

Amarula is GOOD stuff.

Fakker!

I won't let you shoot my 318 Express! grin

Rev Mike is in, he told me so!

Ball in your court.
Uh....
Just go with it! wink

Part of my plan!
Oh yeah, I'm in. I have some 275 Rigby 140 grain PSPs to try, as well as a few boxes of 175 grain solids for the really big stuff. I'm there!
Awesome!

I think I'll bring a 270!

sick
have been very luck and went to Zim 12 and SA that past two Julys.
Probably will go back to SA in 16. Likely with Limcroma Safaris in the Limpopo,
I will go archery again and looking for Red Hartebeest, spring buck, bush buck, and maybe another kudu.
I can't decide what to do next. I've taken the 13 most common plains game species (still have gemsbok to take) and can't afford dangerous game (nor do I have the reflexes or coordination that one should have for that). I hate going after the little stuff like dik-dik.

Alcohol and cigars really travel around the world. In Germany they sell Jack Daniels in the gas stations.
I really enjoy the fact I can get bottles of Amarula in Montana and Idaho.

But that won't stop me from going back to Namibia to enjoy some on the rocks after hunting Kudu all day. Sometime in the next 3 years I will get back there.

Don't be such a dik about it . . . grin
I'm headed to NZ in March for stag and tahr, so my next Africa trip will have to wait a few years. Maybe 2017? I would like to get back to either South Africa or Namibia for springbok and black wildebeest. Those critters weren't available where I went the first time.

When I make it back to Africa, I couldn't imagine I wouldn't also go after another warthog, impala gembok and kudu.
Sadly enough I took my last one in 2004. Brought home nice pair of 50lbs tusks. My only trophies of all my safaris. Also brought many memories that I enjoy daily. Bank account gets smaller, body wears out and it's time for the memories to take over. You can make them as good or as bad as you choose, they are yours and yours only.

Yes they do......now my wife has talked the local liquor stor to cary it for her

Here she is at African Sky Guesthouse having some

Back to SA in July for Nyala, will be taking the 300 Ultra
I think my next African safari will be in Texas
I'm thinking Namibia or Botswana for PG. I might hit Mozambique for a buff/leopard combo though.
I don't really know where but I have to decide between a few options as to type of hunt:
1. Cape Buffalo and add in some other animals.

2. Combo Rifle/Archery hunt for plainsgame only. Greatly desire taking some animals with my bow, but don't want to spend the whole 8-10 days in a blind.

Animals most desired:
1. Buff
2. Eland
3. Blue wilderbeest
4. hartebeest
5. Impala (2 trips, not shot one.. wife and son have)
6. another bushbuck.
7. warthog
8. pretty much whatever trophy gives me a good shot opportunity with my bow.
South Africa in the Limpopo area. Have not decided on species. I'll take my 375 H&H and another rifle but not sure which one.
I read Katana in Botswana is closing down. Any other good places there?
South Africa, Eastern Cape in April with Settlers Safaris for Nyala, Black Wildebeest Red Hartebeest I will be using their rifle this time (too much hassle with the SAPS last time)
Amarula (really good) but belongs in the Bailey's category not JD.
For First-timers......
ASK about loaner rifles and CULL animals. Also consider if you are bringing all the trophies home(transport & taxidermy can double your cost not to mention home additions.....) or will photos still make you happy? ANY DEALS GET IN WRITING IN THE CONTRACT. GO! Don't procrastinate, no one promised you tomorrow, let alone a trip 2-3-4 years out. Africa is once in a lifetime trip you want to take every year. Namibia and South Africa can allow you to take 10 animals for less than a quality elk hunt or Alaska for one critter or a skunko. jm2cts
Yes, you're right about all the above. Did the PG hunt, with my son, back in 2008. Then we did a "poor mans" DG hunt, in Zim, in 2011. The most thrilling, in your face trip, is hunting tuskless cow elephant. You are in a herd of cows, up close, your potential to get charged is very real[ask me how I know grin]. No taxidermy to worry about. Take lots of pics. Come home, and wonder if what just happened was for real.....I know.... grin

Namibia, late April 2015, cull hunt plus kudu and some other trophy probably. Yes, I will be indulging in Amarula........
Ya drink that [bleep]?
I love that stuff!

It makes a great coffee creamer.

Ingwe, where you been? I though you'd died.
Just not posting much. Had the flu last week, and got tired and disgusted with some of the drama here. Heading your way in a week! Tell the pigs that I'm coming, and hell is coming with me! laugh
Texas is the new Africa for those who don't want to get Ebola or pay $1500 for a plane ticket--and want to bring the meat home.

Sorry to hear about your flu. We've been lucky so far, but a few of our other friends haven't. Charlie Sisk got it at the SHOT Show and was in bed for a week.
Will be heading back to the Eastern Cape of RSA in mid April 2016. Tops on my list this time are Kudu and Bushbuck. I'm also looking into hunting the Limpopo area in either 2017 or 2018.

Glad to know you're on the green side of the sod.

I hope we have good weather while you're here. This past Friday some of us were at camp setting up for our parish men's outing on Saturday. The wind was whipping out of the north at about 25 mph, and with the temp at about 62 degrees and damp, the windchill was flat cold. Even the pigs stayed in bed! Glad you're over the flu, though. This time of year the yankees still wage war on us by bringing down their northern bugs. sick
John, think we can get some leopards started?

Mr MD, or anyone else with experience for that matter.......have any of you guys eaten scimitar oryx? I'm wanting to kill one to eat if it's anywhere near as good as a gemsbok???????
I have shot and eaten both. SHO tastes exactly like Gemsbok to my palate. Good stuff!!

Mike
+1

Ive eaten both..so similar it would be hard to pick who is who.

Have been to Namibia in '07 and enjoyed it immensely but at present have no plans for going back. Those blue bulls in Texas do interest me though.

If going back to Africa, I'd like buff and eland where I could reasonably combine those two. A good eland bull evaded me the first time.

A man your size knows a lot about food smile ..........Thanks for the intel!
Thinking about going back to TX for another Nilgai- man are they good eating!

I love to cook, and you should NEVER trust a skinny cook....
Since scimitar-horns and gemsbok will successfully interbreed, it's no wonder they taste similar. In fact one of the ranches I've hunted in Texas had a male crossbreed running around. Nobody was allowed to shoot him....
Very little of Africa actually has Ebola risk, but many hunters are canceling nonetheless.

Somehow I just can't go to TX to shoot African species, and the plane ticket to Africa isn't much more these days!

I'm planning to return to Namibia soon.
I've left enough meat in Africa that a trip to Afritex seems my right move. I'd like to fill a freezer with cow eland. laugh
Yeah, shooting "girls" is a good way to fill a freezer! I have plenty of trophy heads from Africa on the wall already, and some of the Asian animals available in Texas taste pretty darn good too....
Scimitar horned oryx and axis deer top my list of Texas edibles, with the caveat that I haven't yet shot a nilgai. I have a tough time deciding which is best, but I lean toward the oryx.

The last oryx I shot, while testing the Wby Back Country rifle, was this weird, deformed-horn fellow who the rancher wanted out of the herd. This was one of the fattest bulls I've seen, and a most-welcome addition to my freezer. If you can find a cull hunt for oryx, which is a bit like winning the lottery, jump on it!

[Linked Image]

This oryx is the one I put on the wall, posed looking back over a shoulder so the horns are parallel to the wall. It's a beautiful mount.

[Linked Image]

Axis rank high on my list for both trophy and tasty qualities. It is well worth the small expense of having hides from does tanned. The hides are beautiful additions to any game room.

Looking at possible eastern cape but thinking Zambia for some unique species.

I though of Texas for a Scimtar Horned Oryx and a few other species you can't get in Africa.

Texas seems expensive for the African species.

I'd like to see more African plains animals imported to S. Texas. Especially threatened/endangered ones. BTW...how about Siberian Tigers in the northern Rockies?

Sure, if they'll eat the wolves. laugh wink

Great stuff!!! You will have a great time in the Eastern Cape. Two Waters was at the Raleigh show, NC as well.
What you going after?
My wife and I hit It off with Brian and Sheryl right off the bat at the Portland show. We originally planned on 2016 but found affordable airfare so we pushed it up to this year. My wish list is Kudo, Impala, gemsbok, and zebra. After that a tour of the Garden Route to Capetown.
We're very excited

Good for you Charlie. All the best with your safari. I have no doubt that you will have a smashing time with Brian and them. You guys are going to love the Garden Route and Cape Town.

Take Care,
Marius
My next hunt will be forest buffalo and yellow back duiker with a possibility of bongo and forest sitatunga.

It will be in the Congo, this June, walk in with porters, fly camp the entire trip, and basically self guided while hunting.

If anything it will be an adventure.
Bubye Valley conservancy with Shaun Buffee. My son and I will be after lion, leopard, buff, and plains game. After that it will be back to Zim to hunt bull ele with Buzz Charlton.
vpexp,

You will have a great hunt with Shaun. He and I made his last hunt on the Omay together. Excellent PH and a gentleman. Loves to hunt cats. We took a leopard in the daylight in a communal area.

Buzz is not too shabby either.
Mike, not quite the adventure you have planned! We will be interested to hear all about your safari.
