It’s a great show

I'll be there.

Not doing SCI this year, not a fan of Reno and the fact its weekend before Dallas kills it for me. Think they made a mistake with Reno and scheduling this year, think DSC will benefit.

We arrive Wednesday, leave Sunday afternoon. I'll probably spend most of my time in John Sharp's or Wintershoek's (Johnny Vivier) booths.
Posted By: McCray Re: DSC? - 01/06/19
Friday only. Maybe Saturday morning if I have to.

Mostly want to talk to Jamy Traut about a buffalo hunt on the Waterberg.
Posted By: tex_n_cal Re: DSC? - 01/14/19
Yep, driving up Friday night, attend the show most of the day Saturday.
Posted By: crshelton Re: DSC? - 01/14/19
Yes, my wife and I will drive in from farm Thursday noon. Be there Thursday and Friday and then back to feed the chickens and horses. smile

We are meeting some other couples at the show for lunch Friday.

Jorge, I will make a point to swing by the booths where you are hanging out and say hello.
For years, I worked the Dallas Woods and Waters booth, but that was when I lived closer in and did not mind the traffic. Now we stay in a hotel when in Dallas to avoid the traffic.
Posted By: tex_n_cal Re: DSC? - 01/14/19
Bring a warm coat, it's supposed to get cold in Dallas next weekend. No threat of freezing rain, though, at least not at the moment. smile

Saturday
OOPS, told my Great Grand Daughter is having a birthday party, Sunday maybe.
Posted By: Tarbe Re: DSC? - 01/15/19
Friday and Saturday.

Like Jorge, will be bugging the crap out of John Sharp and Lynn Everts at least part of both days...trying not to run off potential customers. smile

Butch,
From Poetry?
You may know the folks at Hidden Lakes bird shooting preserve and/or Walter Patton who own a rifle range in Poetry.
Posted By: jorgeI Re: DSC? - 01/15/19
I'll be hanging with John for a bit (I'll be there around ten Thursday and Friday AM) as well as Johnny Vivier's booth (Wintershoek) . Hatari will be with me, so the John X safaris booth as well.
Posted By: dSmith_45 Re: DSC? - 01/15/19
Getting a day pass for Friday. I live an hour north of the city.
Posted By: kscowboy01 Re: DSC? - 01/15/19
Coming in Wednesday and heading out Sunday. Should be a blast. My father had an exceptional hunt with Alex McDonald in Mozambique in 2018. He got a 44.5” Cape with the double and some really good plains game. If anyone is looking for a great buffalo hunt, give McDonald Safaris a visit. I have Alex’s contact if you want to schedule a visit at the show.

Our PH from Tanzania in 2015 said Reno wasn’t a good show for him.

Sorry I don't. Been here for 20years, but Poetry is a big area with a Christian school, 3 churches, Taxidermist, and a feed store. I'm a member of the Terrell Pistol and Rifle club.
Wasn't aware of a range, but most of us can shoot on our own property. I've heard of a bird hunting place in Yantis around Lake Fork. Probably 45 minutes away.

I'll be there Thursday midday and all day Friday.

Fly home early Saturday.

He said he was coming but he's not working the booth.

JGRaider, are you coming to Dallas?
Posted By: mtnsnake Re: DSC? - 01/16/19
No....
Posted By: gonehuntin Re: DSC? - 01/18/19
Great show today! My recommendations to see:

1. Rigby has some exquisite rifles and shotguns under glass at their safari-camp theme booth

2. Rock Island Auction Company has a Singer 1911 on display.

3. In the Custom Gunsmith/Gunmaker corral:

a. Case-It. Gun case maker Gary Nicholson drove all the way here from Grant's Pass, Oregan, and he makes really nice cases, and had a Borchardt pistol on display as well as his own Swiss Luger. But, ask him to show you his pictures of the uber-rare Luger's/Mausers/1911's he's made cases for. One of his customers is a SERIOUS Luger/Mauser collecter and I saw some pictures of models I didn't know existed (20-rd Broomhandle Mauser among others).

b. Mook Machine Works. This gentleman has some 1800's single-shot rifles that are a joy to hold, outstanding engraving and case color hardening. He's very enthusiastic about single-shots and his craftsmanship is top-notch.

I am meeting my son tomorrow around noon or so. He is just back at A&M and lucked out with no classes on Friday and a slow first week. I need to talk with Doug Turnbull on some SxS work I sent him.
Posted By: OSU_Sig Re: DSC? - 01/18/19
Attendee count was much higher than at Reno at SCI. It’s obvious that, once again, DSC will rate higher than SCI.

Damn, wish I had known that. It’s a great show . my Namibian buddy is well pleased and reduced his booth commitment at SCI next year from 2 spaces to 1 and no coerced “donation “. Bought an own-use elephant hunt and a few others smaller items so far.

I spoke with two exhibitors yesterday who were emphatic that they were done with SCI.

They love Dallas and are thinking they will do Houston instead of SCI.

I did buy Jorge a brew yesterday, you ran off! German place next door was very good?🍺🍺🍺

Jorge,
Came by the booths where you were reported to be , but was told you had just left - both times!
Did you have a lookout posted?
Anyhow it was a good show and we accomplished our objectives AND discovered a new place soon opening that is crawling with black bear and boars so I had to move on. Maybe next year.

Show bonus - we saw Colonel Allen West in the NRA Hospitality Suite and my wife had her picture taken with him.

I hope you like the warm weather today! It has snowed back here on the farm.

I'm hearing that daily in the exhibitor breakfast. SCI has some make up work to do in order to keep pace. Otherwise, it may be reduced to chapter shows and conventions.

A first for Jorge at DSC:

We are cruising the aisles and I introduce him to my Spanish buddy PH Eduardo Aroaz. Naturaally after the obligatory "mucho gusto" they start yammering in Spanish as Eduardo admires Jorge's flight jacket. As we depart, Jorge tells me "that's the first time someone from another country thanked me for my service."

I saw Allen West too. Handsome devil, he dresses up nicely. Too bad the Dems gerrymandered him out of a District.

Jeff and jorge.....sorry I had to bail on you guys. I know I missed out on some real entertainment. Maybe next year.

Houston Safari Club has moved their show to the Brown Convention Center, this weekend. Last year it was squeezed into a hotel in the Woodlands, north of town. I think they probably are anticipating more traffic as well.

Seems like Houston would be convenient for exhibitors, after attending Dallas - and there's no shortage of money in Houston, either smile
