In response to coronavirus lockdowns, a tanking economy, and millions out of work, the US government sent $1,200 stimulus checks to most Americans.

Over 1.1 million of those checks ended up going to people who had already passed away.

The total amount of money which was sent to dead people came to about $1.4 billion, according to a report from the Government Accountability Office.

That’s because, in an effort to rush the checks out the door, the IRS used old data that did not include information from the Social Security office about recently deceased.

Currently the government has no plan in place to recover the money, other than simply saying anyone who receives one of these checks meant for dead people should return them.

But they have no plans to tell anyone how to return the checks.

Boy, if you received one, you practically will need to hire an attorney to handle the returning process, because if they don't receive it, or misrecord receiving it, you could be in big trouble.
More money the gubmint hands out to get votes for Democrats.
Since dead people vote, they should get stimulus money.
Can this be a way to get them off the polls. I wonder how much goes to the dead in ss checks.
With this kind of screw up I think I might reassess my opoinion that voting by mail is a good idea.
Those cashing the checks and casting the votes should be held accountable.
I know, not likely.

Defund dead people.
My deceased mother (2018) received a letter declaring she would be receiving a stimulus check. Is was addressed to “(first name) DECD (last name)”. So she is obviously known to be deceased, and did not receive a check, but why the letter? I honestly would have returned the check had it showed up. And even if I wanted to cash it I could not have because all of her bank accounts have been long closed.

Up until a short time ago, those involved in election fraud werent prosecuted either. The times they are a changing.
Not a big deal. A stimulus check came for my Dad who passed in Jan.

Wrote "VOID" and "DECEASED" across the back with a Sharpie, then mailed it to the IRS office in Ogden which handles our tax returns.
Whew, for a second there, I was worried that what you were describing was a major opportunity to defraud the government and the taxpayers of a schit-ton of money. Glad the feds are on top of it.
I'm sure happy as hell for all those dead prople who have gotten their checks. Good for them. Now, whenn in bloody hell am I gonna get mine? mad
