Damn........... Sorry to hear that.. R.I.P. Charlie. You were not only a great musician but a great American who did a great deal of good for all Americans. And did it all while not turning into a typical left wing azzwipe like so many wealthy stars do. We're gonna miss you. I wish America had more like you.
Sorry to hear that. I was a fan of his for a long time. RIP Charlie.
Not good, sorry to hear that.

He died from a fairly rare type of stroke.

Did lots of work on behalf of the NRA and conservatives. Learned his lesson after the Carter debacle.
His “Fire on the Mountain” album is fantastic. There was a lot more to the guy than just “Devil Went Down to Georgia”. He was even a studio musician on Dylan’s “Nashville Skyline” album.
Hats off to a life well lived, sir! RIP!!
A great american patriot who always voiced his opinion. We need more like him!

Agreed.
It's a real shame all this liberal B.S. sucked the life out a him.
Another good one gone. Fortunate to have seen him perform. RIP Charlie!
Just saw the Dan Rather interview with him. Super class American! RIP Charlie
One of a kind, thanks Charlie!
One of the few musicians I respected as a man.
A great musician and a great American!
And here's why the Devil ain't been back to Georgia...
The devil went down to Georgia
He was lookin' for a soul to steal
He was in a bind
'Cause he was way behind
And he was willin' to make a deal
When he came upon this young man
Sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot
And the devil jumped
Up on a hickory stump
And said, "boy, let me tell you what
I guess you didn't know it
But I'm a fiddle player too
And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you
Now you play a pretty good fiddle, boy
But give the devil his due
I'll bet a fiddle of gold
Against your soul
'Cause I think I'm better than you"
The boy said, "my name's Johnny
And it might be a sin
But I'll take your bet
And you're gonna regret
'Cause I'm the best there's ever been"
Johnny, rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard
'Cause hell's broke loose in Georgia, and the devil deals the cards
And if you win, you get this shiny fiddle made of gold
But if you lose, the devil gets your soul
The devil opened up his case
And he said, "I'll start this show"
And fire flew from his fingertips
As he rosined up his bow
Then he pulled the bow across the strings
And it made an evil hiss
And a band of demons joined in
And it sounded something like this
When the devil finished
Johnny said, "well, you're pretty good, old son
But sit down in that chair right there
And let me show you how it's done"
He played Fire on the Mountain run boys, run
The devil's in the House of the Rising Sun
Chicken in a bread pan pickin' out dough
Granny, does your dog bite? No child, no
The devil bowed his head
Because he knew that he'd been beat
And he laid that golden fiddle
On the ground at Johnny's feet
Johnny said, "Devil, just come on back
If you ever want to try again
I done told you once you son of a bitch
I'm the best that's ever been"
He played Fire on the Mountain run boys, run
The devil's in the House of the Rising Sun
Chicken in a bread pan pickin' out dough
Granny, does your dog bite? No child, no
Charlie Daniels was a GREAT and GODLY American patriot!
Heaven gained a good man.
A “Simple Man”......RIP Mr. Daniels.
This thread is bullchit.
Take it over to the official thread on CD.
Me and my buddy Jay “borrowed” his dad’s caddy while he was out of town and drove to Oklahoma City to see the Atlanta Rhythm Section and Charlie Daniels bad at an outdoor show in 79. It was pure southern rock and he didn’t get the fiddle out until the encore. It’s sad that he’s known as a fiddle player. He was a really good guitar player. It was awesome watching him play in the 3 lead guitar southern rock format. He was so big his Les Paul looked like a ukulele on him. He was by no means a great fiddle player though. He knew that and laughed all the way to the bank. He was however an outstanding guitar player. RIP Sir.
We saw him and Alabama at the Tacoma Dome in ‘86. Helluva fiddle player.
I loved his blogs. The Man was a true American.
RIP Charlie, I’m gonna miss you.
7mm
Last time he was on the tube, he wasn't looking very peppy.
But a live live fully and honestly. Nobody can question that.
I always enjoyed his performance of The Devil Went Down To Georgia. RIP.
I am very sorry to hear this. He was a true patriot for sure. I got talking to him many years ago on a outdoor forum. He read something I posted and sent me an email. We talked for several years on and off.
Fudge thought this was the official thread.
