I have a beach house on the coast of South Carolina.. Something I learned a long time ago was to never take these things lightly. You never know when the one tree it drops in the whole county will be the one that goes through the roof of your house.

A couple of years ago Hurricane Michael came up through the Gulf, and did untold amounts of damage in Florida,Georgia, South and North Carolina. The storm surge from a nearly worn out tropical storm Michael put 3 feet of water in the first floor of my beach house. That was totally unexpected, by me, from a gulf hurricane that never came close to the Atlantic coast.

I've never wished these things on anyone, but I always hope and pray they stay away from landfall on the US. I never trust them until I see whats left of them up in the North Atlantic and all they have to blow around is icebergs.

The eye is supposed to come over us early tomorrow AM. Been through all kinds, this one don't look bad but I've been fooled before. We have one tree that could be a problem, I need to get somebody to take it down soon. Hope this storm don't do it for me.

Flo sure knocked us for a loop 2 years ago and she wasn't too breezy. Caused me to work 70-80 hrs for a good month with no overtime pay so I'd rather not experience that again.

This one looks pretty tame, fortunately.

At least the i storm has changed the news from black, black, black, covid, covid, covid to wind, wind, wind, rain, rain, rain, covid, covid, covid and the standard we all gonna die....

Wind's whipping up pretty good here now, though nothing to worry about at present. Been raining most of the afternoon. High tide here's around 9:00 tonight, be interesting to see how it goes. They've predicted up to a 4 ft storm surge, that will come close to getting the back yard wet at high tide. I'd just as soon it doesn't.

............That's what I was wondering. I've never even heard that name before. Do they just make chit up now? What's next after " I " on the hurricane name list? How about hurricane Jim for the next one.

Been changing handles on all of my rakes today... and oiling tines.

Nothing like the feel and balance of fresh hickory in your hands after a CAT 5.

From what I saw it looks like some good bands of rain setting up along the 95 corridor that may cause some flooding. The surface winds should be pretty minor. If they are out of a flood prone area it shouldn't be that bad.

Don't look so bad in the Lumberton area right now. It appears they have the track going a little more east.
I'm further north and east and nothing much is happening right now.
Think I'll turn in. Maybe sleep through this one.
Hope your folks come out ok

Just released from NOAA Hurricane Center.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/sY9KRNTmLLpPHAtF8

The size of this storm is staggering... unlike any NOAA hurricane map I have ever seen before.

This hurricane could be much worse than murder hornets... for sure.

Well... maybe not, but there is always a chance.

With the full moon and the storm surge, Myrtle Beach is likely to have a pretty rough night. I hope the hood rats get out and enjoy the night.

Tourists will be fine as long as they wear their virus mask.

CV19 is the only real threat in the world.

What's to worry about.

Just some rain with a lot of wind with some rising tides thrown in. whistle

Defiantly the end of the world as we know it.

As for storms a cat 5 is a tough nut to ride out.

1969 Camille was a ball buster. There have been others but all seem to have their own quirks.

Be safe.

Braced up and hunkered down. My time starts in about an hour.................
Posted By: blindshooter Re: Hurricane Isaias - 08/04/20
Didn't even wake me up. Slept through it. Map shows the center came overhead around 2 AM. Wind may have been worse a little east of us but we only saw about 50 for gusts. Still have power. The worst power outages here are from flooding, don't look like thats gonna happen.
They will be back to black black black covid covid covid in a few minutes.

My power went out about 1 AM.

No major damage at my place though.

I'm running off my generator now.

I'm about 40 miles East of Goldsboro.
Posted By: cooper57m Re: Hurricane Isaias - 08/04/20
Just lost power here in Orange Co. NY. The center of the storm is supposed to go right over us. I'm more concerned about tornadoes. Was hit with one a couple years ago and that was no fun; lost part of our roof and utilities. Thankfully we have a standby generator that has kicked in and that can take care of all our electrical needs.

And who named this storm anyway - - some ghetto queen?

Floyd was a real pizzer, took out one of my favorite restaurants. Venter's. The place looked like somebody dragged a bunch of chit houses together and called it a restaurant. Great country food, sweet potato biscuits to kill for if you got in early enough. Damn a hurricane...

Here is the latest from a high tech weather intelligence sight.
It collects data from all monitors and stations....NOAA, you name it. It's by NY now.
Some heavy wind gusts shown, but a pretty mild one by hurricane standards. Wind gusts feature employed here.
