While eating some pickled okra with dinner today, I was once again struck by the thought that, given the number of seeds contained in each single pod, okra should have long ago been able to dominate the world through sheer numbers.

Okra is only good when you are starving to death! Other than that it should be fed to hogs!

Its a warm climate lay-about.

Nothing to do but to breed.

No winter to prepare for or anything like that.

I don't know about that, but Okra could cover the Earth with slime if cooked enough.

Okra is nasty. To me. Wife loves it deep fried. She can have it. I just bread up some dill pickle chips and fry for myself. And end up sharing those with her. Ever notice how they like things you hate, but eat everything you like too?

Heavenly. Or, in Cajun shrimp or crawdad gumbo. Jambalaya, too.

Tip of the day. Sub in Louisiana seasoned fish fry for cornmeal. Splash of milk on the okra, a little OldBay, then shake in fish fry and into the grease. I eat it two or three times a week this time a year when the okra is putting off.
