Geeze....he drop that big stupid heavy rifle on the poor thing or did the guide shoot it fer him?
Clubbed it to death.
With his money clip.
The last time I moose hunted I was armed with a fat roll of hundreds but at the last minute, I gave them to a friendly squirrel and just knocked the moose in the head with my cock. DRT. The squirrel seemed happy, the moose not so much. Moose was a little bigger than Shrap's.
He needs to get a new photographer. Doesn't he know you're supposed to be at arm's length behind the antlers and take the photos with a wide angle lens from close in so that the antlers look about eight feet wide. (sarcasm)
I woulda/coulda/shoulda been in Newfoundland as we speak trying to kill one myself at this time. Love that pic, thanks for posting. Give my regards to Shrap.
Unless you've been up close to one, you really cannot appreciate how much bigger they are than an elk. And the hide is about twice as thick.
As for eating, the one I killed was the toughest wild game I've ever tried to eat, including the tenderloins............absolutely could not get done chewing it, just tougher than shoe leather.

Same here Johnny with my northern BC hunt. We will share photos next year I hope.

Here is a pic of shrapnel observing all the losers that didn't go moose hunting yesterday:
Congratulations to Shrapnel. Great photograph, I just wish it was full sized, so I could see the car lot sized American Flag flying off the end of his rifle barrel. You know it is there....

Do you have the picture of you actively not glassing the elk in the background?

Not the same critter as Yukon or Alaskan moose.

My guess is that you boned it out before it could rigor mortis on the bone. When you do that the meat rigors on itself creating the toughest meat imaginable. Virtually inedible. Not your fault..we are bombarded with the "cool it off asap "bullschidt from every angle. You absolutely have to let the muscles rigor before boning it out. I know these things

Thanks for the info; I did not know that.
But it was the next day before the quarters were boned out, & then, by a meat cutter, as I didn't do it myself.
I have learned from making the very same mistake. I shot an rarly sean, non rutting buck. Got to it immediately. Peeled the hide off and immediately boned it out. The muscles were still twitching. Ithat eww as the toughest piece of schidt imaginable. I later learned that it was theresult of a condition called cold shortening. Google it.
Howabout we just compare photos. You are such a bad ass there is no way I could possibly hold a candle to anything that you have ever done, being that im such a puusssy Californian right?
Better idea..go to bed..you might save a little of your pride....🤣 You talk some awfully big schidt...mister.
I have the time.....can be out there as soon as I get a mailing address.
Get your video equipment ready........I'll have mine too.
Let's do this, pencil neck Sheldon.

Im glad to see Shrap hasnt completely cut off all ties to you, Col Travis. Maybe he thinks there is still some socially redeeming qualites there that remain hidden to most astute observers.
Maybe Shrap will return to the Fire now that you are no longer in Gods Country and hair assing him for places to take your beer paying nimrod sucker clientele to hunt?

Ha. PTL. Great to see another real hunter back to posting on the Fire.
Been guiding non-resident deer hunters in Iowa since 1997.
Dealt with plenty of 'Salmonellas' over the years. No telling them anything. Coincidently......success rates lower than average.
95% wind.

Ha. PTL. Great to see another real hunter back to posting disgusting political climate. But I defend on the Fire.
Im just like you guys. I hunt and fish my ass off...but for some reason because of where I was born...a few here try to paint me into that box. I feel bad because I probably helped build that. I hate California..because of the idiots that Im surrounded by and the disgusting political climate. But I defend the life that I have here. Some aren't deep thinking enough to understand that. A few take great pleasure in berating me because Im not ready to throw it all away. Nothing destroys a man's wealth and good being like a divorce...nothing. I've already been down that road. That's why I have not gone down it again. I apologize that I lash out sometimes. You know the guys that fuel that fire.

I respect you Mike, but do you have proof of that regarding Salmonella to back up such a derogatory comment regarding him, or are you bearing false witness?
As long as im at it, im on the Fire a bit now and then. What, if anything, have i missed concerning Salmonella that so many find objectionable about him, of course, other than the fact he lives in Ca?
If that is his sole sin, then let his detractors be real men and also impeach Fats or Rick Bin.
Like Joe Biden with Trump........he challenged me.......and I accept.
Let's do this.
I have been blessed in too many ways to incessantly blow about it.
He constantly does.
You don't see that, Jag?

I killed a 54 1/2 inch Montana shiras in 2010 that was honestly the size of my 16 hand quarter horse and was aged at 10 years old. I deboned and aged it properly and he was about the best tasting wild game I have ever had. Quite possibly THE best and the most tender, to include calf elk I've killed.
In 2018 I killed a 2 year old 34" shiras bull in Wyoming. I deboned it the same way but due to circumstances couldn't get it aged like I wanted to, and it roughly fit Sal's description of poor meat care. It was absolutely the chewiest game meat I have ever had. I bitch about hunting in the heat but if it's not too hot out and doesn't get too cold at night, it does help tenderize and age the meat.
Just say'n...
I'll bet Shrap killed that bull on a private ranch somewhere and got a pickup right next to it, or due to the few numbers of the tags it could have been on public I am sure. There's nothing wrong being close to the road and I would have done the same if I had the ability to, without apology. Hopefully shrap's not trying to make it sound otherwise, but I've nothing against it if that's how it played out. In fact I would be a bit envious.

Ha. PTL. Great to see another real hunter back to posting on the Fire.
No dog in this fight but this struck me funny. So does guiding in Iowa include driving them to the cornfield and dropping them off? Making sure the box blind has a heater? Asking for a friend.
Nice to see a thread that makes us smile for a change. Congratulations on a GREAT hunt.
Well, it was good while it lasted.
Yeah, that pos Sal had to post something nice. I hate that fuggrr. He wont divorce his wife as god says to if she likes Cal, he shoots an kills stuff with a sorry crooked barrel pos gun, bastid pays taxes and i heard from a reliable lying dimocrap ratbastid he votes dimocrap. Burn him at the steak.

Fughk. No wonder Zero won.
Good night jag.
Time to go to bed and forget everything you wrote tonight.
Or........it can include 'drive' hunts with firearms.
Setting up tree stands and ground blinds....for every wind direction.......pre-rut/post-rut......travel intersections........perennial scrape locations. Lots of walking hunters to stands.
The most time consuming is trail marking with reflectors and ribbon. Works great til an overachiever forgets his flashlight and gets lost in the dark.
You would be surprised how many hunters pay little attention to wind direction when selecting a bow stand. Hint: weather radio.....online weather sites.
Many southern hunters get stuck on hunting acorn ridges.
Western hunters often get lost.......discussing directions (NSEW) gets you a deer in headlights looks, many times. No sun reference capability whatsoever.
East coasters......Always something wrong. Screw the hunting partners, too.
We had a guy sight in his new bow in the headlights....night before he was supposed to hunt.
Enough material to write an entertaining book. Lots of experts.....can usually tell first 30 minutes.
Generalizing, always exceptions.
When in Rome.....do as the Romans do.
If they listen throughout the week.......they stand a good chance at opportunity.
Many P&Y......few B&C.
Timberghost opened a year after we did. They border our property. We are fair chase......they have high fences.
Pat Deblasio had the #55 archery off my property, bordering Case Proving Grounds......but that has been a few years ago....likely down list now.
Please tell your friend.

Springcove, you and me and Sal just dont cut the fugging mustard. We dont take money from nimrod greenhorn city slickers and get them a critter to put on their wall to show other city slickers how great they are at hunting.

Jag I have never hunted Whitetails and was just trying to bring some levity to the conversation. Those guys put in a lot of work and it’s definitely different hunting than I do. I have a friend who’s a guide in Idaho and it’s all pack horses and remote camps.
Happy hunting season. It’s the best time of the year...
good looking moose! that being said..... who gives a rats shiny a-- whether the man hiked ten miles in his underware to tie a rope and drag it out by his daddy bag, or whether he shot it from his back porch, or whether he beat it to death with the last noodle on his spaghetti plate. deflave take two Midol and call it a night.callin everyone loosers isnt the best opening. again great pic and congratulations on it! just because someone doesn't do things the way you do it doesn't mean they are undeserving or less than.....a strait shot is a strait shot.
One time....during first season shotgun, had a New York hunter with a very fancy and little-used scoped, rifled shotgun. 2 New Yorkers in camp.
Towards the end of their hunt.....we planned a push.
I got the map out and directed them to standing locations......but also mentioned walking around a pond in the middle of a 60 acre field, on the way.
Nice shotgun guy asked why? I mentioned jumping many deer around the pond saplings.....bucks liking to bed there.
Guy asked how nice? I said I jumped a 130 there....he quickly informed me he was looking for a 160 or better.
I asked that they please humor me......they didn't want to.
Both hunters unloaded their shotguns on a 190+.....saplings by pond.
Nice shotgun 'banker' guy got sick.......but they went to the standing spots anyway. His partner shot a 162 on that drive.
Found both sheds for the 190 next spring. Jersey hunter got him next year....bow.
When in Rome......

Shrap called me shortly after the moose-tag drawing last summer, saying he'd put in for an area he knew well but had drawn for another he'd never even seen--or applied for.
This happened to more than a few people, with various kinds of big game this year, due to the suddenly introduced, so-called all online "system" of Montana FWP. My wife's application is an example. All of her applications got thrown out because of a computer glitch that decided she's "active military." (On the other hand, she's the only person I've actually know besides Shrapnel to draw two Montana moose tags--and her second was for an antlerless moose, not a another bull.)
But instead of whining Shrap went scouting, in an area a 150-mile drive from his home. He found some nice moose in the area he'd never seen before, and killed a good bull. I don't know the particulars of this moose, but he worked for it.
On the rare occasions I visit this part of the Campfire anymore, it's always interesting that some of the same people keep making know-it-all posts about things they know nothing about.

Congratulations Shrap. Looks like retirement is doing you well. Nice moose. Appears to be pushing the upper 40" range. Any moose is a trophy. Especially nice Shiras. Take care of yourself.
I once sat on a hilltop outside Cortez Co. near the city dump. It backed up against tbe Nat Park with the Anastasi (iirc) cliff dwellings. Just as a booner fed down a distant ridge and was about to come off the park and eat a 270 Wby mag partition, a pack of starving junk yard dogs nearby turned on and ate one of their companions.
The sounds of the melee were quite disconcerting to me and Mr Booner and he dropped over the far side of the ridge he was feeding down to die, and instead, another critter took his death nearby.
From that point on ive not cared much for turning dog packs.
That's funny. Two weeks ago.....road hunters galore......even during archery season.....zone 7 elk.
Talked 3 hours with 'Rodney'.......Game and Fish......Douglas, Wyoming.
He sent us to some private landowners....because he knows we walk....and actually hunt.

A lifetime ago i walked into a taxidermy shop in Jackson Hole on a nice eye disease CE trip.
The taxi was busy and had no time for me as i looked amazed at Gods gift to the Mule Deer world hanging on a wall. The lying bastid tore my heart out saying it was some kids first deer taken from his pickup truck while taking a load of garbage to the local city dump.

good looking moose! that being said..... who gives a rats shiny a-- whether the man hiked ten miles in his underware to tie a rope and drag it out by his daddy bag, or whether he shot it from his back porch, or whether he beat it to death with the last noodle on his spaghetti plate. deflave take two Midol and call it a night.callin everyone loosers isnt the best opening. again great pic and congratulations on it! just because someone doesn't do things the way you do it doesn't mean they are undeserving or less than.....a strait shot is a strait shot.

"People " dont hate me...trolls do. If you let people beat on you you..you are a puzzxy. If you defend yourself you are thin skinned. This is the way of the internet passive aggressive.
Be sure to tuck your adult child into bed this evening.
I had a Wyoming game and fish warden tell my son and I that he was astonished as how successful California hunters were. I respectfully told him that we had the highest mountains in North America shy of Denali and lots of competition He scratched his chin and said..."that makes perfect sense ".
Wow.
An out of state hunter explaining why his state has the best hunters and toughest terrain, while he hunts in somebody else's state.
I wouldn't say what I say if every single word of your mouth was against Every Californian. Not just California liberals, but every Californian. Ive been a hard core hunter and conservative all of my life. You would not believe some of the schitttt ive been in on. I look at the schiatt you post on here...and I can't help but get pissed off. If you only knew what some of us know..mmmm.
Sal,
How many years of yoga did you need to take before you could suck your own dick?
If this was directed at me......wasn't really complaining about road hunters......the game warden was.
The landowner names he forwarded had a problem with those types of hunters......so Rod felt comfortable sending us there. We may hunt one of those properties next month.
Roads have little effect where we normally hunt. But we usually have the camper close to the road, on BLM land. It is hard not to notice.

East coasters......Always something wrong. Screw the hunting partners, too.
So very true. East coast hunters and western hunters really can't hold a candle to Iowa hunters. It's true, hunting the wily farmland whitetail gives them fits, what with all the intricacies of following directions to the stand. But they have an especially difficult time when pursuing the Iowa Christmas Turkey. Try as they might, the Christmas Turkey remains a mystery to them. Shrouded in an enigma, as it were.
These stereotypes are derived strictly through experience.
A few other observations:
When a hunter wants to shoot his bow right after the morning hunt......go check the morning stand location for blood.
Counting quiver arrows only works once. Expressions when asked about missing arrow are priceless.

Damn now there is a gun I’d never figure shrapnel to be ground sluicing with
He loves those things.
Saiga 410 right? 5 round mag same as a 1100 in principle. Your prejudice is showing. He likes the M1 Garand also as well as other historic weapons like winchesters and Sharps rifles. Only thing that abounds on this forum thread are critics. Seems like it's to damned hard for some here to say congrats. MB

Perhaps because the "hunters" you use as examples arent really hunters, they are clients! They may very well be guys who cant get it done on thier home turf but happen to have the disposable income to pay to go to Iowa to be placed in a stand by a guide who has done all the work and simply have to shoot at a deer that walks by. Sorry but your not special, I do all the stand prep for wind conditions etc you mentioned in a prior post on my own as well as numerous other properties I have permission to hunt on....its part of being a more than casual whitetail hunter!
Apologies for the digression, just got ticked by mikewerner insinuating that those not from Iowa dont know how to hunt deer

We could all be winners if we just had Kirk's "top secret map" to Montanas best big game hunting spots , I remember there were some trees and a fence on that map, but some of the other details were missing !
Flave as liaison of all things shrap, can you explain to MBob my comment was in jest. It’s well known he is a lover of fancy things and I admire the Saiga wrap he used to camouflage his soda straw Purdy

Certifiable,
Your comments needs no explanation.
Go in peace and be a fisher of men (no Jews or Irish please)
Still waiting for a pm from anyone to take me moose hunting. Well Deflave said he take moose knuckle hunting.. but I’m sure that’s not the same thing as moose hunting..

79,
If it frequents swimming pools and the golf course, I’m your man.
Years ago.....had a southern business owner that came up for a late muzzle hunt.
When he arrived.....asked to look at his muzzleloader. He had a CVA with a brand-new Tasco World Class on top.
Problem was......the bell of the Tasco was touching the barrel. Really looked like the objective bell was bent up. He assured me it was dead on.
At the next Builderberger meeting, informed the partner we may be snorting crushed Tylenol by the end of the week.
Hunter got two shots.....130 class and 150 class......plus an evening phantom shot, east of the lodge, where only one hunter was hunting.
After the first miss......offered my Encore .45/Leupold......he acted a bit annoyed.
Last hunt was a push.....where the 150 stopped at 75 yards for the missed shot.....as witnessed by another hunter in camp, from Michigan.
Hunter never asked to come back (which is rare). Must have been the outfitters fault.
My personal and professional life has taught me competence in anything is relatively rare.

One time back home 1996-97 I saw a deer get hit buy a car. Called the sheriff department said deputy be by in 15 minutes. I waited, deputy showed said yep deer is dead. I asked if I could have it. He helped load it in my Geo metro. That was the last time I had wild game meat. So seriously can one of cool guys take me hunting??

Come on down. We'll see if we can't get a bear off Big Jim's land like Clarke. If not maybe have some luck on Sam's place.
Sal would mushroom tip your forehead ya freaking fool.
Sal isn’t going mushroom stamp no one. He can’t even scrounge up air fare to deal out ass Whoopings. Why you think he tells people to go to California to get their ass whoopings.

I know kind of like the Prius you drive to work everyday. You know saving the earth type chit. You have one of them bike racks on the back of it?
Hey Flave, I was sworn to secrecy regarding Shrap's moose, does he know you posted? lol, that one is not as big as the other one he showed me. Damn fine moose , congrats Shrap!
Now I know why Shrapnel is no longer here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha has an aversion to gratuitous use of the explanation mark in type?
I don't think so, I think it was the dumbasses that finally got to him. I enjoyed reading his actual real life experiences about shooting, hunting and reloading those old lever guns. But the dribble that has taken his place is good for a few laughs also I guess.

You know exactly who I am...🤣 So funny. In real life, I'd be friends with all of these people that rain hate on me...but this is the internet...🤣

Hand them a ratchet strap and they'll prove with 100% certainty that their forebearers haven't been up on 2 legs for very long
That Colorado vegan diet turned you into a big bitch.. go eat a steak before you turn into a women..
LOL, this coming from the guy whining about "tough guy talk." Which are you today, passive or aggressive?
Uh oh it’s too late you are growing a vagina from drinking all that soy milk.. drink some PBR or Keystone.. Oh an no one at work is impressed with you walking around with your shaker bottle watching you mix your protein shakes either..

Hahaha. And walk through the woods as they walk on a sidewalk, heel slamming the ground with each step, their leg straight and locked and then kicking every pebble or stepping on every dry twig or branch on the trail. When you tell them to be quiet, they look at you like you're crazy. Hell, AFATC they are being quite if they arent talking. Never learned to pick their feet up and trying to stalk up on something.

I think you have me confused with someone else sport, which is not surprising. I never posted about climbing mountains and I don't use creatine. And I never claimed to be a tough guy.
Feel free to back up your bullshit and quote where I said any of that. I'll be waiting.
Went up your way for a DIY moose last year. Mid-September.
Flew out of Casper......Salt Lake City......Seattle.....Alaska. Kids dropped me off after the zone 7 elk hunt......a bit exhausting, packing some elk out, a couple miles back.
After arriving in Alaska.....we stopped at Wal-Mart for tent and sleeping bags before hunt. Impressed by plug-ins for campers.
Bought a 2 man $34 tent. Bud's bought good sleeping bags.......but my frugal instincts found a red one clearanced for $9.97. Swooped, oh yea.
Mistake.
We hunted close to TOK. PO'd a few residents pronouncing it tock, instead if Toke.
50 inch minimum.....saw 36 inchers dime a dozen.
Froze rear end off in cheap sleeping bag.
The walking was good.....til you dropped knee deep in muck.
Lots of rutting sign.
Walking, walking, walking........many creeks looked like flowing coffee.
The MRC LH .338 came home bore-clean.
Lovely wife picked me back up in Casper after hunt.......followed by another archery hunt Wyoming zone 7.
Would I go again? In a second.

Dang, that would be the perfect emergency food supply for when the SHTF.
I've got deer, quail, Eurasian doves, jays, antelope walk by on occasion, and a herd of cows wandered in last week or so.
But man, a moose in the back yard, how convenient would that be.

Yeah, no kidding. I was standing on his porch, which is 12’ off the ground and have had them come up to it.
You always look for them as you go out the door. They are dangerous and will ruin your day.

Wow. So much angst and antagonism over Shrapnel’s nice moose.

Salty,
I sure hope the first week of fall in BC is treating you and yours well. Doesn't seem like fall here, I'm thinking we may end up with the warmest Sept ever if this keeps up. Supposed to be up near 90F by the beginning of the next week. The aspens are turning color though, so maybe there will be a fall someday.
I do believe there would be a lot less fooforaw if Shrapnel himself had started the thread.
Clark, Dave, and Travis have a way of drawing out the negative energy from certain folks here. But, it's really not the 'flave's fault.

Dafuq Geno, you were putting blankets on your tomatoes a couple weeks back and now 90 degrees?
Thank you the first week of fall here has blessed us with a little rain. OK a lot of rain. Standing water on top of river silts/sands another dafuq? moment. Its all good the air is fuqing amazing! No smoke. No smog from Seattle or Vangkoover just gorgeous clean fall air mixed with a lot of rain. Two more days of that and we may see the sun again which might just be welcomed at this time.
Now back to our regular programing of gang bullying, sophomoric insults, circle jerks and anything non Shrap. Speaking of which for a little southern stunted pretend moose that sucker is actually a dandy! Doesn't make the 3 brow tine rule that we need to go by around here but makes the 10 points on a side no problemo..... bang! Congrats Shrap now take a bow in absentia.

OK, Can't wait to see the quotes.
Stop being creepy and wanting people to internet creep your posts on 24 hour..
was 36-38F on the thermometer the other morning , about 5' height where I have it now. Hoses had slush in them, water frozen from the little drip on the faucet too. But, the 'maters did fine under their plastic. I'm going to harvest some again today. Making kraut right now, I managed to get some good cabbage this year. Pepper harvest is going to/has sucked though.
I still do not know what this "rain" crap you guys are talking about. The only water around here that falls out of the air is that which comes from the well by way of the lawn sprinkler.
10 points for your mooses up there, or 3 brow tines? Do they issue any cow tags in your neck of the woods? If so, that's what I'd put in for so I could see a bull. It works for me for elk, why not moose.
Shrap did OK I think. Some of these fellas are just jealous. And as Travis says..............losers.
It’s always amazing to see their size in real life as they’re truly a massive animal. That should be a lot of fine eating too. Moose is probably my favorite big game meat.

Well hang in there pal and maybe the rain crap will make a showing and thaw out your hose. OK that doesn't sound right..
Moose regs here... yeah. OK short of hiring a lawyer it goes something like this. It varies a lot by area but it goes from zero moose hunting opportunity to many areas that have an open season for immature bulls. Basically a calf from the previous year so they're 1.5 years old and have no more than 3 points on any antler, often a 2x3 as it turns out. Then it moves to an open season for mature bulls in some areas up north. This is where the at least either three brow tines, or at least one side with more than 10 points total comes into play. Very good binocs and the time to have a good gander is needed here! Then you get in to draws or limited entry where you can apply for any bull, mature bull or even cows in some areas although that one is dwindling. Clear as mud?

And Montana moose--the Shiras subspecies--are nice little moose compared to most Canadian and Alaskan moose.
Just curious - did he shoot it with the bolt action rifle in the first pic posted by deflave, or did he shoot it with the lever action in the pic in the article. Awesome moose regardless...

Yeah, I noticed that too.
Changed rifle, jacket, and hat.
Why the charade?
Sometimes he changes clothes while the entourage retrieves necessities.

Problem?
Since you didn’t try to sell this hunt in any direction as to how hard or easy it was for Shrap to get the bull on the ground. It makes no difference to me. It’s an awesome Shiras Bull.
ICGAF if Kirk travels around with a closet full of clothes or a full armory. You said he drew a hard to get tag in a small unit 150 miles from home. He did the pre-work to locate animals and laid one down.
The question of a clothing changes and pics with a different rifle wouldn’t have gone unseen by you. So, question about it seems normal.

This bear was shot with a scoped .284, but that's a iron sighted 38-55 in the photo.
The reason is I shot the bear from the top of the canyon and watched him die (also heard his death moan which sucked btw). I went back to the truck for a packframe and the 38-55 is easier to carry down the canyon than the scoped 284, and I weren't going down there with no rifle.

Some of that would be incorrect. Moose here, in the North, are open in some regions for any bull from August 23-August 31. Then it switches to 2 point/tripalm/10 point. A 2 point used to be called an "immature bull" but that changed years ago to "two point bull". A two point bull has to have one antler with 2 tines or less on it. Seems pretty straight forward, no? As long as the tines are at least an inch long, and longer than they are wide. A two point bull could be comprised of a bull that has 9 tines with 2 brow tines or less on one side and 2 tines or less on the other. Or a big bull that broke his main beam off before it split, and that main beam is only a beam that is longer than it is wide and doesn't have more than 2 tines. Or a young bull that is just in his first rack, as long as one side only has 2 tines or less. That was the reason that the name changed from "immature bull" to "two point bull". The age of the bull is immaterial and all that counts is that he has one side with 2 tines or less. The BC regs spell out what makes up a tine pretty clearly, and a big bull that has fought hard can lose most of a side and technically meet the definition of a two point bull. Tripalm/10 point are what they sound like, either a minimum of three brow tines below the narrowest point of the antler, or more than 10 total tines on one antler. As long as they are at least an inch long, and longer than they are wide.(Same tine definition for all ungulates province wide.)
Former 24 HR poster drew trophy moose tag in Montana.
Killed very nice bull 15 yds from road using a bolt action sporting a high powered variable optic and a bipod.
It all seem like a winner doing winning things.
Then he claims he did the deed with an iron sighted Winchester lever gun?
WTF?
Junior detective with marvelous tan makes a fuss because guy with big moose took photos with different rifles.
WTF, over?
I am not surprised some one with your limited skill set sees nothing wrong with maximizing a photo op by switching rifles and pretending one used a less capable rifle.
Possibly others view this as dishonest because bolt actions with high power variables and bipods are a bit of an advantage compared to iron sighted lever guns.
It's a great bull, why lie?
It's still creepy you think my tan is "marvelous".

It's not your bull, why do you care so deeply?
Earlier you criticized him for shooting a bull 15 yards from the road, do you really think he'd need a scoped rifle on a bipod to do that?
Or a better question, do you really think it's any of your business what he shot it with? Ask yourself why you're so concerned with other people's business.

When some one lies about how an animal was taken it bothers me.
You are fine with lies and whatnot because you simply dream of actually doing something.

I literally praised shooting a moose close to the road this time of year for meat recovery but you simply can't read.

Simply because lying on hunting sites sucks.
Sure guys like you don't see a problem when other guys lie about how a hunt went down.
It bothers me.
I am going to call it out.
Shrap did not kill that bull with a lever gun and he is a douche for taking pictures with a lever gun and posting the story.
Since we're off topic, I give you a pic from back in my wild(er) and crazy(ier) days. There may or may not be a 1/2 empty case of beer just out of the frame.
Disclaimer: Bear was NOT killed via handgun. Handgun was unloaded too.

It's amazing to me how many schitballs come out of the woodwork to pollute a good thread about one of this board's favorite sons doing an awesome thing.
Patiently awaiting the longbow and mountain man getup.
Nothing says authentic quite like a Yeti 110 and some buckskins! (Did mountain men even have coolers? I know the cowboys loved them on those lever action trail drives...)

Simply because lying on hunting sites sucks.
Sure guys like you don't see a problem when other guys lie about how a hunt went down.
It bothers me.
Correct me if I'm wrong (master of the English language) but for shrapnel to "lie" wouldn't he have to actually say something? Maybe you can point out where he's said something about the moose and the rifle he shot it with?
I am not surprised some one with your limited skill set sees nothing wrong with maximizing a photo op by switching rifles and pretending one used a less capable rifle.
Possibly others view this as dishonest because bolt actions with high power variables and bipods are a bit of an advantage compared to iron sighted lever guns.
It's a great bull, why lie?
It's not your bull, why do you care so deeply?
When some one lies about how an animal was taken it bothers me.

He didn't even post the photo.
Burns is getting the shine knocked off that forehead for the next photo op.
Someone who really pays attention can see it is about two different moose, on different days shot via two different rifles. I 'll leave it right there.
I don't care if he poses in a loin cloth and a spear, that's a nice bull with a couple nice guns that I'd be proud to own (and take pictures with). Bonus points using that old shootin' iron for bear back-up. Well done Shrap!

I bet you’re also amazing at deciphering spunk spray in motel rooms.

I need to know, does that top shooting a bear with a BB gun, twice. From the comfort and safety of my bedroom?
I just had a single shot just sayin.. Primitive weapon to boot. lol But I should have been more honest more like shot at doubt if I hit the thing but did lob one at a moose quite a ways away at the wise old age of about 12.
I would just like to add that Shrapnal looks dapper in both outfits. And kudos to his makeup artist for sticking with it out there in the wilds. it must have been terrifying for him.

Roy,
It is Shrapnel. Not shrapnal . Do you not have spell check?
I don’t want things becoming any more caustic than they have.
This thread is now closed.
Does that work?
Is there a good-better-best scenario for closing a thread? If so, what makes better better than good but less better than best? Is best twice as good as better and four times as good (or better) than good? If good is good enough, why is better or best even needed? If good isn't good enough, why would you call it good, shouldn't it be called inadequate? What if there was a point system for posts, would that be good? Or better or best? Or not good better or best at all.
