Does Acetaminophen Cause Constipation ?

Yes Acetaminophen does cause constipation. The commonest acetaminophen is Tylenol. This is an over the counter drug which is used for fast relief from minor aches and pains and as strong as other opiates. Like most pain killers, this is one of the negative effects.

It is advisable to use a laxative to ensure a regular bowel movement. If bowel movements stop for more than three days, you should immediately consult a doctor. You might need a suppository or enema to get back your normal bowel habits.

At home remedies to combat this constipation is to drink plenty of water and other fluids. This helps cleanse the system. Your diet should include plenty of fiber and roughage so enable proper motion of stool. Lots of fruits and vegetables should be a part of that diet. You can also take fiber supplements like Benafiber. You can also use stool softeners to ensure healthy bowel movements. Gas and flatulence can occur too due the effects of the drug. You should monitor the amount of the medicine you are consuming.

Regular exercising will ensure a healthy constitution. Long walks are the best remedy for digestion and getting rid of gas. This will in turn help the constipation. Yoga too helps to relieve pain caused by constipation and the gas. Prolonged use of acetaminophens could result in severe health hazards. Liver damage is most common. Thus most people suffering from liver problems are advised against using acetaminophens. One must always read the label when purchasing a drug and read up on the consequences of the drug if it has not been stated clearly and in detail on the label.

Because the drug is over-the-counter, we are led to think that it's safe. I forgot how many emergency room calls and deaths and am too lazy to look it up.
There's a practice that some do.
They get drunk and take Tylenol to avoid or get over a hangover. BIG mistake.

Wine and qualudes was a common mix for housewives in the 80s. The meds were Rx by crooked docs. It turned the "patients" into addicts and the docs the drug pushers they are in WV today. Repeat customers just like the heroine prostitutes. Many docs = pimps in that state. The good docs need to police their dirty industry if they want any legitimate respect back. The good ones have mine. The bad ones can do their patients/ victims a favor: take their own medicine and a bottle of vodka.

Acetaminophen is a leading cause of liver failure and transplants.

I avoid it. Ibuprofen and Naproxin are my friends.
Start with OTC, 800mg prescription when needed.

I just started taking the extended release for a nagging and chronic knee pain.

All nsaids are hard on kidneys, especially impaired:, naprox, ibu, motri, aleve, even aspirin is an nsaid (non steroidal anti inflammatory). I can never take those again, ever


Tylenol is processed via the liver, I still can take that but I limit to 500-600 mgs day.

A tylenol 325/ with 30 mg of codeine hit the spot, 2 on rare days.
If a bad day, I got oxys. Rapid 10s-straight, skip the acetomn loading

I can't take nsaids either {kidney disease}. I haven't taken any pain killers in the last 9 years for anything, including when I had my hernias repaired.

I got two ventral hernias right now.

Ibuprofin does nothing for me.

Naproxin kinda works, but am allergic.

Acetominophen works.
Just took two. Extra strength.

Headache about gone.

All of that crap makes my tinnitus worse these days.

Mine were inguinal. My guts would pop into my nutsack when taking a shyt or heavy lifting. Was quite painful.

Nice lady kidney Dr said take turmeric. And gave me a script for something stronger for when the turmeric and glucosamine w/msm don't do the job. And I can take one xtra strength "tylenol" a day

Beav, hope you're having your liver function checked periodically................that sure seems to be a whole lot of tylenol for one day. Get the knee looked at and consider some injection stuff, especially if your insurance covers it. I still want to make it up there to fish the pond....................with you preferably.

Took nothing when appendix acted up.
After surgery they said take hydrocodone?
I took one a couple hrs after I got home, and another 4 hrs later.
They did nothing.
So until tonight, have taken nothing.
Sure it hurts. Yesterday I thought I had a 2nd appendix that was gonna need removed. Sucked.
But after a few hrs it ebbed.

Only took tylenol tonight due to headache. Ears still way sensitive, misophonia and tinnitus................about shot the damn TV, friggin commercials.

OTC or not, it's MEDICINE and one should always be watchful of issues.

The average consumer is pretty damn clueless.

G, liver function is good. I just started taking Tylenol ER pills the last couple of weeks. No more than 4 a day.

Since I just wrapped up exterior painting for the season. My body will get a couple weeks of reprieve from the work grind before we start hunting.

Long hikes and packing out meat, if we connect, will absolutely find me digging in my pack for a couple pills. And a pull of whiskey in celebration. Fingers crossed. 😎
