What would happen if Biden dies of natural causes like stroke, covid, heart attack before the electoral votes are cast?

Was the vote for president or combo President/Vice president? If the person "elected" was unable to fullfill before being sworn in officially does it fall back to the second candidate?

20th Amendment, section 3:

If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President. If a President shall not have been chosen before the time fixed for the beginning of his term, or if the President elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until a President shall have qualified; and the Congress may by law provide for the case wherein neither a President elect nor a Vice President elect shall have qualified, declaring who shall then act as President, or the manner in which one who is to act shall be selected, and such person shall act accordingly until a President or Vice President shall have qualified.

Remember though, no president has been selected, there is not yet a president elect. That won't happen until the electors vote.

If something happens prior to that, the electors pick the president (note: that's an opinion, not fact). There is essentially a "hole" in the timeline, after the election but before electors cast votes, which traditionally go with what the people vote for, but that's not a legal requirement.

The closest thing we have to a precedent was Horace Greeley's run against Grant. Grant won the election but Greeley had a good number of EC votes. He died before the electors voted. They divided his votes among 4 other candidates on the ballot although it was a runaway for Grant. From that, I would assume that if Biden was incapacitated before the EC voted, they could give his votes to whoever they wanted to. It says nothing about the VP elect automatically getting them.

At this point, I think the DEMS would find a look alike to put in Bidens place until the election is finalized, and then that person would be found dead a day after the inauguration and Kamala would take over...

Going by precedence, if he died now the electors could vote any way they want to.

Kamala would just be moved up a few months from the current schedule.
