Try and buy a non injected turkey at the store.

Just want a non adulterated turkey.....so's I can adulterate it how I see fit.

Might brine one and smoke it after Thanksgiving.

Might fry one later this winter.

I dont need a bunch of phosphates added. I dont want to buy added water.

Dont fugg with my turkey.

Found some local birds.......Hoot Colony birds.

I'm no legal eagle..but ain't it illegal to adulterate any kind of animal in most states?

Must be a location thing.

Fresh and natural turkeys all over the place here.

I bought a Butterball and a Natural bird. Both 99¢ a pound. Both NorCal birds.

For the Butterball I had to buy $25 in groceries to get the 99¢ price

Costco had the fresh and natural birds for 99¢ regular price.

I can put the phosphates back in my soap dish, taking them out my turkey, not so much.

Just Raise them. They chase the Jehovah Witnesses and Mormon Missionaries away and keep the cats honest.

This frickin state put the Kibosh on our local hoots selling meat out of their little shop. I used to love their young fryer chickens!

Hoots treat you right on prices?

We have Amish and Mennonites.
Not gonna pound them, they are people.
Great to crappy.

Their better businesses provide good value.
Others, are expen$ive, and maybe poor quality.

I was just looking at the Hutterite offerings at the local butcher and just couldn't get over those stupid plaid outfits.
Posted By: slumlord Re: Non F'ed with Turkey - 11/20/20
Do hutterites bathe more often than mennonites?

I had to swear off of them big cinnamon rolls. I had heard some things.

Before you fry your turkey put a pound of good bacon in the pot when you get it up to 325 or so and let it cook, then dip it out. Imparts a great bacon flavor to the oil and into the turkey.

What a great tip! Why didn't I think of that?

Just yesterday I gave my entire turkey frying operation over to my youngest son. Pot, burner, racks, thermometer, welding gloves...everything.

Great tasting turkey but I grew weary of always being the one to deal with the oil and clean up duties on a Holiday night. I did it for decades, somebody else's turn. I'll let him know about the bacon trick.

I grew up next to a turkey farm. Dumbest animals on the face of the earth.

Hell, Jim, aren’t there turkeys on the turkey-foot your ways?

Been eye-ballin’ the (local nuisance) flocks that parade thru, hoping to introduce a worthy fat one to the grill.

Come to Iowa Big James, the huge turkey operations have to kill a few birds every so often to test them. Most of those folks are tired of turkey, they go to waste.
Posted By: MadMooner Re: Non F'ed with Turkey - 11/21/20
ALL the birds around here are swimming some mystery solution, “up to 10%”.

If you want an air chilled, non chem-set bathed, bird around here you are gonna have to go to Wholepaycheck Market and drop about $4 a pound.

Wife told me to kill one for the thanksgiving feast I’ve managed to kill 2 one with the muzzleloader and the other with 308 I got 2 drumsticks and 2 breast between them both

I know where there are some “free range” birds running around over in Wolf Point..... Fuel and libations may make it non-economically feasible though.
