Remember ashtrays? Big fancy ones, tire tread ashtrays.

Some floor stands with a fancy matching lighter all crome shiny.
Posted By: slumlord Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
I seen a plasma tv that got hit with one.
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
No kidding?

Yowsa.

I miss the days of having those little ashtrays (and being able to smoke) in airplanes. Nothing said civilized travel more than a plane full of smoke and smoldering butts.

I have one from the old bank.

You could kill someone with it.

I still have my grandads. Brown porcelain with an alligator. A souvenir from a trip my aunt took to Florida in the 60’s. Sits on a shelf above my desk. Weird the [bleep] that reminds you of someone.
Posted By: FatCity67 Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
I have a side table full of them. All my Grandfathers. He was a big pipe smoker.
Posted By: slumlord Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
Seems like every one of my uncles and great uncles had one mounted on big brass artillery case or ship gun. Not sure. 😃

Remember the tiny chrome ashtrays that were in the backseat armrests of the 55-57 and up Chevy cars?

Lover’s quarrel 😃

The grandma housing them was not happy, she felt the wind off it as it zinged by.

My hunt club is a museum of ash trays.......lm the only member that doesn't smoke.....the rest cant figure out why they dont see deer while having brushes with cancer.
Posted By: OldHat Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
I remember how bad they smelled.
Posted By: BigDave39355 Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
Me-maw had one.

Had one of those huge console tv / record players too.
Posted By: FatCity67 Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
How bout them bean bag ones. You could set them on the dash of your 69 Coup de Impala or your knee watching Bonanza. Maternal Grandmother liked the plaid fabric ones.
Posted By: plainsman456 Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
Just the other day i got a lead Cristal ash tray from my Mother in law.

Won't use it but i have a few of the tire types i got from the tire store.

Posted By: 22250rem Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
Still have one of those round glass ash trays with a small rubber car tire around it as if the ashtray is the wheel. Forgot what the tire brand is but it's a promotional item that tire stores and gas stations had back in my childhood in the 50's & 60's. Haven't seen it in years, ( I don't smoke ) but I have it here someplace.
Posted By: smithrjd Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
Still have several, now all in the garage or outdoors. No more smoking in the house. Probably killing me one stick at a time. Either that or the booze. It is what it is and I am what I am. As an old Sailor, too late to change now.
Posted By: Jiveturkey Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
I quit smoking a yr ago. Glad I did. Not sure what that has to do with deer hunting. I've shot several out of my tree while smoking. Just put the cig in hollow end of stand, & take my shot. I honestly don't believe they get spooked by tobacco smoke.
Posted By: Dillonbuck Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
My grandfather fed a family on deer.
30-30 if it was season 22 or 12 gauge if not.

Work clothes, Pall Mall or hand rolled going nonstop.
Would build a fire to stand by if it was cold in deer season.

That was before the deer got so smart.
Once they started reading, you needed tree stands and camo.
After they got internet, scent locker, and matching socks and underwater
with you hat and coat.

Pretty soon, they will be the ones writing the articles.

I use a fired shell from an M1A1 main gun for my cigar time at the lake.

It's cool because I kept it from driver/loader training at 29 Palms when I was with 2nd Tank BN.

I wish it was a round I fired, but, as a TOW gunner, I just got a quick familiarization course before we went to KSA and didn't get to shoot anything.
Posted By: deflave Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
It's pathetic how people feel about smoking these days.

I wish smoking was good for you.

I miss it so.

Got some new tires and rims on the Suburban today. The two front desk guys were just lighting up a smoke when I walked up.

Both of them started to hide the smokes behind their backs....some fugging Karen or Colorado resident probably complained once.

Fugg sakes.....smoke your smoke.

I've got my parents ashtray that they put out for visitors back in the 60's - glass and chrome job, real fancy. I've got a Lufthansa ashtray from the late 90's from a shipment that U.S. Customs was going to bust up for some reason, I snatched one for myself. My prize possession is a sheet steel stamped Kenworth ashtray from the late 1930's that my Grandfather got when he was working in the oilfields in Louisiana. I don't smoke, I've just kinda collected them over the decades.

The machinist’s mates on my father’s LST in the south Pacific made one for him using the bottom 2 1/2 -3” of a 5” AAA gun shell case. I still have it and about 2” of the primer tube is there with a little brass piece on top of it to put out cigarettes.

I have never been a smoker, but as a shooter I find these early 1960s era W.R. Weaver Co. ashtrays to be pretty dang cool. I keep one in my office as a reminder of the days when real men smoked and their rifles AND scopes were made in America..

I remember ashtrays being pretty common ceramics/clay project in school when I was a kid.

These days, I have a stainless Xikar can for cigars.

Got piles of the rubber tire ones somewhere. My grandfather was a store manager up through regional sales manager for BF Goodrich Tires before retiring in the early 80's

Too lazy to float pics, But I have one from Cheerleaders Gentleman's Club, Denver. Mack Trucks, with the chrome bulldog. A few more.

Quit using them Dec 8, 2014.

These new rims the kids buy are all aluminum. They are so angular and sharp you feel like you need a tetanus shot after looking at them.

4 of those would have cost more than the Suburban.

Yep. And they’re butt ugly too. All the wetbacks around here put them on a $500 pickup truck. Along with a Dallas Cowboys sticker. 🤮

Large portion of my Paternal Grandfathers collection. The Casino ones are from the 70's. Couple of mid century Artdeco style ones in there. Couple in there from Grandparents Mexico vacation/trips to go see bullfight fights and check on their rancheros managed by his brother.

Those wheels take me right back to the 1970's. Except I couldn't recall the name of 'em when I first saw that picture. Yup; they were wagon wheels.
Posted By: slumlord Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
Was a fella running around town with some of those “truck wheels” on a country squire station wagon. 😃
Posted By: JPro Re: Ash trays? - 12/05/20
Do the white wagon wheels still come with the little blue and red stripes around the rim?

I remember my dad ordering a set for his Bronco and having a body shop blast them and paint them gloss black. This was back before black wheels were the big thing. You got white, chrome (which always rusted), or machined aluminum (with the clearcoat that always turned to hazy junk).
