I grew up with stories of my parents under Nazi occupation, and it always came down to being able to grow your own food, and keeping the fire in the stove. Stuff all got taken, as did young girls and young men (for different reasons). They kept their heads down, tried to keep some of their animals alive, and grew and stored what food they could. Ex: huge lake right across the street and 5 more within 1/4 mi of my house. Canals full of fish. Birds everywhere. Huge iguanas. In a former job, I had the opportunity to meet many Holocaust survivors. For some reason, they were surprised I knew about their tattoos and what they represented.

Never said nothing about shooting anyone. Ropes work fine, lampposts are stout. I can build a mean gallows or guillotine. Always favored that scene in Braveheart where Wallace rides his horse into the ahole’s bedroom and smacks the bastard with that spiked ball on a chain, too. One thing stands out to me. For the guy that wrote this, once the shooting starts in a conflict like this, it becomes about survival. Who cares about ideology. I think for the majority of people this becomes the case, it is either about just surviving, or it just becomes about being on the winning side whatever side that is for survival or advancement.
Unfortunate and chilling. If there is no sense of purpose other than what I can get in this life on earth, it is a logical course of action.
Some of those Bosnians I've been around are some real sharp folks. They remind me a lot of many other folks I've met in my life. Folks who were exposed to and escaped from Nazism and various communist chitholes like in eastern Europe; Hungary in 1956 comes to mind, or Cuba when you could still just pack up & leave freely. Funny how people like that are so good at detecting socialist, commie B.S. and calling it out while American born citizens think they are hearing reasonable stuff. Aint about being cruel. Its about being efficient and getting the job done. I have no use for people who enjoy being cruel to others for any reason. Cruelty for a purpose sometime must be tolerated.
