So, pulling ring shank nails it hard on the cutter.
Ant whey I can weld, and grind it back to shaper? Will the weld be too soft?

Poor picture, sorry. [Linked Image from i.imgur.com]
Hell, I one time welded up all the tappets on an old 63 Olds and ground them to save a buck. Drove that car for another 6 years, ran like a champ...

Phil
weld with hard facing rod like what is used on plows
Thanks all!
That'll buff right out.

Buy some new ones ya cheap skate!
Aso, buy a new camera.

Or at least back off a few inches.
A man after my own hart. I thought that I was the only one that did that. Use 7018.

My dad exactly.

He will spend half a day screwing around welding some that can
be replaced for $20.

One day my jacket caught the screen door latch, and it broke inside.
I was going to my girlfriends house, so I told I'd grab one at the hardware.
No we can fix it, quick.

Took it off, drilled out the rivets,
Cleaned up the pot metal parts, and started welding.
With a stick welder. That didn't go easy.

3 or 4 hours later, after we peened the last rivet.

I still stopped at the hardware store.
A complete unit, new. $13.

Of course the welded pot metal didn't hold up, within a
year, I bought a new latch.

You're going to have to grind them anyway....just grind it back and save a step.
I've ground, filed, ground down the stop, all sorts of things.

I bought a pair from Harbor Freight, never again, the handles bend.

LOL! I wasn't aware I had a brother.
The entire edge needs welded then re-ground
Nice picture of the floor. Is that white oak?

Couldn't you just grind it off and redrill and skip the welding?
I’d figured the edges would be tempered and quenched. Welding would remove that and make soft.
Red oak minute.

Here it is, a trial cut worked well.

Thanks All!

That is your best bet, tough ass metal. If anything might work, it be a hard surface rod. I use them on backhoe teeth, shredder blades.
Wabi, buy an actual Bridgeport sliding nail puller.

That gave me flashbacks to my old job. I've pulled 9 million nails with 1 of those.
Nothing quite like "The right tool for the job".
Does Harbor Freight make a cheap copy that Wabi could buy?
Wabigoon - you lobbed one over the plate nice and slow, so I'm going to take a swing at it...

Did you get your camera at Harbor Freight?
Gawd what am I supposed to be looking at?

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Don't waste your time otherwise.
I gave away a pair of HF nippers, the handles are too springy.
Use the correct tool for the job. And quit breaking tools not suited for the job!
Wabi...
Please dont ask to borrow my tools.

On second though:
Dont even look at them!
Hard surface rod might do it. Easier to buy new set
This is a tough crowd.[Linked Image from recreoviral.com]
Trying to make out that pic made my eyes cross and gave me a migraine.............Dang.
I put hard surface rod on my lawn mower blades, they never wear out

One would be money ahead, too.
