Looking for a more "consevative" option than firestick.

I settled on ROKU and it works quite well. I don't now the politics of the CEO or Board of Directors however.

Roku. Have had one for almost 10 years now. Works great.

Searching right now about owner Anthony Wood. I would like like to narrow my support to the pieces of sh-t that are active in squashing freedom of speech.

had to answer... i have had 4 ROKUs over the last 7 years or so but the blasted things keep failing... I bought a firestick about 8 months ago and it works great... There is also the option of using the smart TVs apps. Xfinity has a new streaming device that is 4k but does not have the YouTubeTV app...

many android based TV boxes out there with varying names.

all of them are chinese made of course

Xiaomi Mi Box is a popular one, about $70 - has similar functionality as a firestick - you can install apps from the google play store on it with all the standards like Netflix, Hulu, Youtube....

there are cheaper versions out there that are knockoffs for about $30.

I'm not a fan of Roku but to each his own.

If you want to step up in quality and horsepower, there is the Nvidia Shield.

Its also android based so the google play store is opened up to you, but its about $190

I think the compatibility of the newest and most advanced ROKU devices has alot to do with how new/advanced is the technology of your TV. ROKU lists the TV models that work with their newest and most advanced controllers. The standard ROKUs work on my TVs which are several years old, probably 6-7 years old.

I'm wanting to steer clear of google.

Didn't realize age of tv worked into the equation. I though the remote stick that plugs into tv acted as controller. Tv I have is 16 years old works with a firestick at present.
