President Trump rescinded an executive order early Wednesday morning that had limited federal administration officials from lobbying the government or working for foreign countries after they leave their posts, undoing one of the few measures he had instituted to fulfill his 2016 campaign promise to “drain the swamp.”

Trump had signed the executive order with much fanfare in an Oval Office ceremony in January 2017.

“Most of the people standing behind me will not be able to go to work” after they leave government, Trump said at the time, flanked by senior aides.

The order required executive branch appointees to sign a pledge that they would never work as registered foreign lobbyists, and it banned them from lobbying the federal agencies where they worked for five years after leaving the government.

Ethics experts at the time noted the order had loopholes — but still offered cautious praise for Trump’s attempt at halting the revolving door that allows government employees to use their positions to land lucrative jobs in the private sector.

No explanation was given for why Trump chose to rescind the order. The White House released the directive at 1:08 a.m. on the day he will leave office. It had been signed Tuesday.

Yeah he issued pardons to political cronies but not to Julian Assange which was also disappointing.

People like me who like the Pres an awful lot called attention to this when it happened so it seems intellectually honest to lament its undoing.

So much is symbolic of his willingness to drain the swamp to the extent he could.

I'm sure he has a reason, we just don't know what it is yet. He sure isn't getting any help from DC, so he must be thinking of another way. That order would probably only be used against Conservatives anyway in the next 4 years.

Trump has spent his life screwing business partners and everyone else but his wife. Everything he does is in his own self interest.

I'll give him this much - he has pulled off the biggest con of our lifetimes.

We'll see what Kushner is doing in about 3 months

My opinion is that he still intends to try and influence government from the outside and needs some of these people with inside knowledge to make it happen.

Was also disappointed with that.

The disappointments keep stacking up, now that the bill has been settled. And it can safely be said now that they ALL are truly a bunch of traitors, criminals, and crooks. In case you had any qualms before.

If forced to guess, i’d say one of his kids or their spouse has an opportunity.

Impossible to argue that. Odd how elected crooks and traitors are above the law. No one in the Obama admin prosecuted and Hillary runs free.

Agree , the toes Trump was standing on have the power and money to make ANYTHING HAPPEN ---> ANYTHING , kids , grandkids nothing is off limits to them .
I think many people still doubt that these type people exit - they do !
I've often pondered how many times Trump was sent a small bit of advise - advise that very likely gave him pause .

How hard would it be to send a picture of his sons/daughter/grandkids - picture taken through a riflescope ? That would make any man have second thoughts .

Seems like a response to the Forbes publishing threat against administration officials.
All the obummer people will get jobs no problem with or without this EO.. this is just protecting his own people I think.
