Most of mine are ‘60s vintage, but I have one of Thomas Edison’s tube records released in 1907. Done by the American Symphony Orchestra and called “The Darkies Jubilee”. After all the years I was finally able to listen to it.

Times have changed I reckon.

Pretty cool. What kind of contraption did you use to listen to them - an Edison Cylinder player?

I figured to challenge the political correctness of the 'net and search. Found it, very much to my surprise. The one I have is in the original tube container and in very good condition. I'm sure it would play if I found a cylinder player.

My grandmother had one of those and a rack of original tubes. She had it from when she was a kid and passed down from her parents. Originals, not repops.

Very neat stuff.

I've got an Edison Cylinder player with about 100 cylinders...if that's the proper term.

It was in my grandparents attic when I bought this place. I should try and fire it up. I'm sure it belonged to one of my great- grandparents...I'd say pre 1910. Looks like a big wooden lunch box.

My best friend in Minneapolis is a total vinyl hound. He's literally got 1000s of LPs and is in the process of cataloguing it all right now. He's big into tube amplifiers as well. An interesting hobby that you can make bank on if you know your schit.

This one was purchased as a Christmas gift for my parents back around '76. They passed on and it came home to roost. I never looked at the record title until then. Had to smile. After listening to it I smiled again.

I have a similar friend - has a serious collection. 6000 vinyl and a like number on CD and cassette and all of those are backed up onto hard drives. It's all over his house. One giant record store.

His collection is very 80/90's college radio.

Bob Seger performed a well known song about old records. Seems he liked to sit and listen to them by himself.
