Kroger to Close Two More Stores After Seattle City Council Mandates “Hazard Pay” for Grocery Workers.

Supermarket retailer Kroger announced it will close two of its QFC grocery stores in Seattle because of the City Council’s new “Hazard Pay” law requiring an extra $4 per hour for workers.

The mandate, dubbed “Hazard Pay,” was designed to compensate grocery store workers for working in “dangerous” conditions due to the Covid pandemic – but it backfired.

And we just had one close because it was one of the top krogers in the nation for theft. So the other krogers in town are now getting robbed blind, putting theft devices on meats!

That fixes that. LOL

good job city council, you just pushed a lot of jobs and a business out of the neighborhood.

The employees should smash and burn the council chambers.

Not sure how much of a backfire this is.

I've been in both of these stores. QFC used to be a premium brand in this area but it's now firmly middle of the road. These stores are in affluent, mostly white liberal neighborhoods but they're too small to have the stuff that affluent, mostly white liberal families want. Both neighborhoods also have Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and a couple of independent green-focused stores not far away, and that's where these people tend to shop.

The workers can go to other QFC, Fred Meyer, and Kroger stores. There are a lot of them in the Seattle area--which is too expensive for most grocery workers to afford--and most ofthem are busy as hell right now. The chance to blame the Seattle City Council for the closing of two underperforming stores is easy money for the folks running Kroger.

Okie John
Most of the workers will probably come out ahead between state and federal unemployment. The loser will be the the city for having two boarded up abandoned buildings and lost tax revenue. There going to turn there city into Detroit.

yeah, its crazy...they even started putting monitors at the ends of each aisle where you can see yourself instead of just cameras up in the ceiling.
Just the other day the wife watched employees go after a lady that didn't pay for three cases of beer that was on the bottom of her cart. She told them they must have forgotten to ring them up.....it was self checkout. And then they are throwing a fit because its racist that kroger pulled its store from the bad side of town...geez...i wonder why.

and then the city started sending buses out to the nice krogers. So folks take the bus now, roll the cart to the bus stop, take everything out, turn the cart over so they can sit on the side and wait for the bus. Leave trash everywhere.

Heck..you'll see a half eaten rotiseree chicken laying on a shelf. Like they were ever going to pay for it.

The mandate did not backfire. The workers will now be totally safe... Sitting at home collecting an unemployment check...
And the Schitty of Seattle and fuggin Kang County won’t see a nickel of revenue from sales and liquor tax. The yuppies will have to shop at Whole Paycheck and the groids will have to steal elsewhere . Too funny.
