First post from a 78 year old outdoorsman and collector.

I found this site after Googling up a gun a close friend picked up..... A Savage 220 smoothbore .22. Seems to be a lot of knowledgable people on this here.

My main interests are Pre-64 Winchesters. Been collecting for over sixty years..... 1897's, Model 12's and of course, The Rufleman's Rifle. I've contributed to Roger Rule and George Madis's writings, but still feel there's a lot more for me to learn from many of you, and if I can help anything to you, then registering for this site was a success.

GFY

Hope you aren't thin skinned or have squeamish sensibilities.
Things get a bit interesting here. And rough.

The campfire is a free for all, The Freak show.
The Optics is snobby as hell.
The rest? Usually pretty tame.

Welcome.
Pull up a chair.

Do you own a 270?

If so, congratulations on your resurrection, we hear you died a horrible death.

Hudson is great, I almost moved there one time about 30 years ago. Nice country.

Nah - that's Houlton, about six miles N on Hwy 35... smile Hudson's got good and varied eateries up the wazoo, but downtown parking is like the Dodo, non-existent.. Beautiful city actually, but it's changed to mostly flamers over the last three decades from all the MN transplants using it as a bedroom town..

Welcome Sir!

Welcome to the campfire, Flyingliver. There are many more that bark than there are who bite. You'll figure that out pretty quick. In the meantime, if you have questions about anything, ask away.

YA DARN TOOTIN!
Thanks all for the warm welcome. I'll try to answer some of your questions in one post...... but certainly not my last.

SLUMLORD, Thank you for being the first to welcome me!

CISCO1, You've got the correct hardware store, but it's in Baldwin.

VALSDAD, I love everything about duck hunting, from decoy making, duck boats, and especially seared mallard breasts, with an apricot sauce I make. Duck=Dark Meat= FLYINGLIVER.

TOO ALL THE "BAITERS", I taught school for 44 years, so I'm not easily offended. When I read something a little "edgy" I just remember back to when "I had my first beer".

Oh I almost forgot..

WABIGOON, Don't ever post a picture of my wife again!

flyingliver,

you'll do alright by me..........................................................for now..................................

as to the duck breast in apricot sauce, there's a food forum down the list aways. Visit it please, post picks of the aforementioned meal for us. And, if they look as good as they sound, be prepared to be asked for the recipe for the sauce.

Hey Flyingliver,
My late Uncle as a kid worked at Herman’s Landing on the Chippewa Flowage when Louis Spray was fishing there. Louis lived in the
Rice Lake area for a while. Not sure though if you are familiar with him.
Posted By: cisco1 Re: Greetings from Wisconsin - 02/27/21
Ga ,

Don't remember your Uncle. I fished the Flowage .....big area, good fishing.

Do you remember the Buckhorn Bar ( long gone) in Rice lake?
