The video, shared by reporter Dan Dicks, shows about five masked Canadian Tire employees quickly surround and assault a maskless customer. Soon the employees are chasing the customer around the store before tackling him to the ground as he yells for help.
“I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe!” the man shouts as one of the employees puts him into a headlock.
“Film this, please! Film this!” the man yells at bystanders as he’s being subdued, with another employee seen trying to force the man’s hands behind his back.
This is hardly the first instance of bizarre mask hysteria, and it likely won’t be the last."
I am in Missouri for a few days...family emergency. Anyway, a little different here than Charleston. They are full-court, mask everywhere there. Here in Missouri, they have mask signs on the doors, but it’s very live and let live. Funny thing, stopped at Walmart and, as always when I’ve been here, a few people with masks, most without...but I’ve always been there in the afternoon. Stopped in this morning to get a couple of things for my son, I was the only one in the store, I think, without a mask. A whole different crowd in the morning. Of course, no one said anything...people tend to be very polite and respectful in these constitutional carry states.
I tell folks that being a 100% peaceful protester, I am exempt from mask wearing.
When asked, I take off my cap/hat and say: until I can walk into my barber shop without a mask, I'm not shaving or cutting my hair. I am protesting that.
If then I'm told I have to wear a mask, I pull out some long green and say, It's your choice. I can spend my money here or somewhere masks are not required. Works most of the time.

Thats cause the inconsiderate maskless a_holes don't get up before noon.
Masks don't mean chit to me. I'm not trying to prove anything to anyone. Wear one for protection at work, walking around a store? Chit!
Was at a hardware today, know the owners my whole life. They are committed Dems, but decent people. Old school. Anyway, they jumped off the cliff at the beginning of this stuff. So, I grabbed a mask and headed in. Several folk ahead of me were maskless, so mine went in my pocket.
I'm not ghoing to fight with old friends over a piece of cloth and 5 minutes.
Wal-Mart has watchers, they are the only ones to actually mention it to me. Giant Eagle is hardcore, they have never said a word. At the door or in the aisles.
Employees are forced to wear them here. I usually put one on to check out. These people are in close proximity to hundreds or day.
If they have to wear one all day, I wear one for 3 minutes.
Wear one/don't wear one. F' I don't care. IDGAF if you wear Depends or go commando either.
So scared of his possible pathogens that they had to tackle him en mass and wrestle him to the ground. Absolutely ensuring massive transfer of any virus he might be carrying.

Just wait for the disposable depends on face. Some are already requesting three masks. But seriously, 5 minutes to not ruin a relationship with the store sounds reasonable. Lets hope that the medical govt becomes reasonable too. 😉

Charlie,
do you believe that underwear will contain a fart??

I do carry pepper spray and a Sig P365.
So far, have not had to emply either
Ya!
GWB
Makes sense. I might post another option one of these days too, kinda like that . It has to do with having a health condition.
Btw, the Sig seems sweet. I don't have one yet, but the xl is on my santa list.
How do you know he's not just a garden variety shoplifter?
The only thing we know is what we see and the written report. The rest is speculation I think. If he were shoplifting, that would put it in a totally different perspective.
Ain't my business. I'll get my car and go elsewhere.
Choices have consequences.
Same, but I'm not sure if they were going to let him do that or not. Most employee/ managers would point to the door. Hands on is a big no no for corporate policies.
Spit on them and tell them you just can from the China flu ward.
For whatever reason it doesn't look like they're worried about the 6' rule does it? The other day I was reading about the wrestling matches requiring kids to wear masks until they shake and grapple. Maybe the bug doesn't travel with physical contact...
Mask wearing in my area is no big deal...most people don't and half the ones that do are below the nose and chin. I don't wear a mask it should be a personal choice. I carry so it might turn into a bad day for the attacker if they try and jump me.Think i'm going to buy some pepper spray also wouldn't be a bad idea.
I've been told once after getting inside to wear a mask, the gun store no less. I told the guy I was not participating and turned to leave. He stayed behind the counter. Good idea for him as I was on my way out of the store. He'd have been wrong to stop me, I think. These guys were way over the top.
The video starts where they surround him. That cornering him with no way out. I heard something about a mask. After a few seconds, they lay hands on him.....that would be possibly 5 years if he were LEO in some states. Non LEOs have been known to carry cuffs, but it's rare. For some reason one did. The guy in the choke hold said you aren't police while they were trying to cuff him.
I think it was probably prudent for him to ask for someone to record it. That's all he's got when they get their story together before police arrive to put him in the cage for " attacking the employees."..or whatever they'll decide to say.
I do most of my business in Oregon. The State of Oregon will shut down a business if they do not enforce mask mandates.
They are even using OROSHA to do the dirty work, claiming that allowing an unmasked individual into the store puts the workers at risk.
I have enough respect for the proprietors of the business that I will not take an action which will put their business at risk. There for I do wear a mask when entering a business in Oregon.
In a free state, I leave the mask in the car. No one in Idaho even notices, until you get into liberal hell of Boise.
That's awesome. Do you attribute that to ergonomics? I like a couple of the P series for that reason.
Sir,
I could not give you a definitive answer in that regard.
Although I own numerous pistols, I am not a Pistolero.
I carry sidearm as a last resort to stop. Thankfully in 31 years of carry I've not had to do more than show my weapon. Other than that I use it to put down critters.
I have owned numerous revolvers and semi autos.
Started with Colt Mustang in 380 circa 1990.
Next was the Taurus 92 in 9mm in 1991.
Followed up with the Glock 36, until I got charged by a hog and I put 7 in his head. He dropped at my feet. My chamber was empty.
I figured no more Mr. Nice Guy and got a Glock 20 SF.
I like Glocks 'cause they work.
Next I tried the Kimber Solo in 9mm. It was very particular about what it was fed. I will not carry a pistol that ever jams on me.
For several years I carried the Glock 43 and it was very reliable.
When the Sig P365 came out I liked the fact that, IIRC, it came with both a 10 and 12 round magazine. Soon after a 16 round mag was available, which was double the capacity +2, of the Glock 43.
Factory Glock triggers are nothing to write home about, and after shooting the Sig for a bit, I was sold.
I've a Sig 1911 Emperor Scorpion in 45 ACP which is my favorite, but being short, fat and 70 years old with old man's butt, It pulls my pants down. I sometimes forget I'm carrying the Sig with a 12 round mag, and with a 12 round mag, it does not "print".
Anywho, if you decide on the Sig P365, I do not think you will be disappointed.

The twitter guy who OPd wrote that he was going to interview this guy, so maybe we'll get more details from his POV. Hopefully by the end of the week we'll find out more.
Just from where it began, there's no good reason to do anything to prevent the customer from leaving and some companies will even say let shoplifters go, but get a description and plates. No reason to believe that happened, but anyway some people are taking the Covid mask thing WAY too seriously.

That Scorpion is a work of art IMHO.
The many videos did mention the trigger was good on the 365. Thats one thing I have yet to try since the couple shops that had it in stock had a policy that they couldn't remove the trigger lock until you buy it. I asked the clerks to let the manager to know my policy to not buy unless I can dry fire a semi, to check the trigger. Thanks a lot for the description.

Get ya some suspenders and carry the 1911 - or maybe try a shoulder holster.

Do luv the Sig ES
works like a charm!
It's what i'll be shooting at the 24hrcampfire hog hunt bowling pin shoot this year

It looks like that Emperor Scorpion is working well too. I used to know a veterinarian that wasn't so fortunate or as good a shot under stress. He ended up in the ER. That 45 is the best medicine, like an half ounce of prevention.
IMHO, self defense is justified. What use of force allowed by law enforcement and the prosecutor of this man is anyones guess. This is one of the main reasons I like good martial arts. It offers options as well as various degrees of force. I like blades and bullets, but they sometimes aren't going to be seen as appropriate unless you work with those who are officers of the court, even if the average reasonable person would.
I don't either. I was confronted by three employees and politely told them of my health exemption. Then I ordered. Have you ever had any hassle with that?

No, it’s because the working people, with at least half a brain, aren’t free to go to the store mid-morning....it’s mostly the entitlement crowd in there that time of day.
The lady that tries to get you to sign up for bass pro credit cards was being loud every time someone came in the store without a mask. She called me out to, but its not a bps policy. Everyone tries to avoid the cc folks, they were in the back by the outlet, now they moved them up front where you really cant avoid them....but I guess it kind of works out, she didn't bother the anti mask folks about a cc, guess she was scared.

So the headline could've been "Canadian shoplifter tackled by store employees." I wonder why they didn't lead with that?
In one report he was described as "an anti-mask protester" but the report was short on supportive evidence. In the end, it comes down to attitude. If his attitude was non-confrontational, he may be the victim. If he was just trying to stir up s--t, he deserved some grief. Store security people may carry handcuffs. They also have a tendency to overreach at times. Mask-wearing is a pain in the rear but it's here. I don't like it but I can live with it; for now. GD
The news just showed a clearer picture. The guy could have easily been led out of the store. Ushers in churches should be trained to do that if needed. These employees likewise. They seem to be spending too much time watching UFC fights. The young panzie skin head that choked him in a rear naked choke looked like he was lucky he didn't get hold of someone who would break that offending arm. I'm looking forward to hearing more details.

If your dumb ass even had JUST a clue about disease spread and masks. But nope. You just drink koolaid. Watch out it might be Jims one day.
Some others have had training, research, and realize how very little if anything a mask can do. And the fact that they could actually help spread the disease if used incorrectly.
And I'll just say that even adamant friends of ours do not use masks correctly. That most that use masks don't wash hands like they should instead. And that if you apply haz mat training to this you'd realize that probably 95% or more that wear masks if it was truly a life or death haz mat situation would be dead or contaminated due to the incorrect use.
How do you know he's not just a garden variety shoplifter?
Yeah, the dude probably had a tire under his coat. Good thing they got him.
L.W.
If you actually watch the video you'll see that there's a lot more than tires in the store.
When we lived on the border I used to go over to Canadian Tire for my Ontario fishing license and for tackle. They had the biggest selection and best prices on Rapalas of anywhere.
"Disturbing video out of Canada shows a group of masked tire shop employees chasing, assaulting, and tackling a customer without a mask, in the latest example of COVID mask hysteria.

In the areas where I choose to live one can defend themselves against a physical attack. Pretty simple if you ask me.

deserved some grief? Over words, as you say IF he was a pot stirrer. Nope you can NOT attack for that. You have to be more mentally sane to not attack for that. But IF you attack, you can and should expect any legal response from nothing to death. Warranted and legal.
In their efforts to enforce their mask rules, they all violated the six foot social distancing rule.
Yeah, hands on too. But thats past liberals brain power to even figure out. Mob mentality. Stupidity.
But its gonna be fugly when they try it in a place where folks still exercise their freedoms I fear.
I hate what all is going on, but I"ve been charged by my freedom and constitution as a citizen to defend what I have to if that time ever rears its ugly head.
Is that an extra job requirement for all of their employees? You'd think that it would be in everyone's best interest for the tire company to give them better training.

You know that's a "quote" from the link. That's good that you are in a free place. I too have been very fortunate in similar situations.... multiple opponents, not store employees. Anywhere under the crown has been anti self defense in my lifetime it seems. The worst part of surviving an assault using self defense is often the aftermath. Some good guys, or bad and you can't have any way of knowing until then.
I'm surprised that he had the state of mind to call for video evidence. Most would be so stressed that would have occurred in hind sight half an hour later.
The individual brought this on himself. All of the stores have signs at the doors to not enter without a mask. The employees tried to reason with him to either put on a mask or to leave the store. He was trying to make some kind of [bleep] point and was trying to provoke the employees. IMO he deserved what he got. Unfortunately I'm afraid they could end up being charged with assault. The AH should have just chosen to go elsewhere to shop. I have 2 relatives who work for the company and who provided a video of the encounter. There is no doubt that the shopper was trying to stir something up. No reason other shoppers should have to put up with his ignorance.
