Ever hear a song and just think 'Damn, that's the perfect combination of song and performer? There a ton of great songs and performances out there, in many different genres, but seldom do I come across one that rings perfectly true. This is one.

"It's funny how I love that book and I never loved that girl." I love that line, almost as much as I love that song. Guy Clark was a helluva writer.

I like that song, Guy Clark wrote it. That’s Lloyd Maines on the lap steel guitar.
I need to be doing something else that cruzin' tunes!
Oh, God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son" Abe said, "Man, you must be puttin' me on" God said, "No" Abe say, "What?" God say, "You can do what you want, Abe, but The next time you see me comin', you better run" Well, Abe said, "Where d'you want this killin' done?" God said, "Out on Highway 61"
There are so many perfect songs.... so many that resonate....at one time I thought if they produced a movie of my life, the soundtrack would be all Merle Haggard and Warren Zevon...fortunately, that’s no longer the case

Step Inside This House is such a great album it will make you a Lyle Lovett fan.
When I saw this thread...two came to my mind - Johnny Cash's version of Hurt and Train in Vain by the Clash. Here's Mick doing an impromptu version - a true artist enjoying his venue regardless of size.
I had a conversation recently regarding this song. I've hear a lot of covers of this Leonard Cohen classic, including the fellow conversationalist's pick of Bon Jovi (?). Whenever I bump into a new version, I give it a listen start to finish. And I always compare it to this version. I've found none better....This still sends shivers down my spine. If you listen to it without the "artsy" video, it mesmerizes.

Adjust setting to HD if necessary. This talent is still on planet earth. Minus Rick. One of the most under appreciated yet talented keyboardist of our lifetime.
One of the highlights of my youth. Saw Cream live in Fort Worth, TX at a rat-hole called the "Cellar". ....and it was free! They played "Crossroads" and the whole (small) place was rocking. The cellar didn't have chairs, but cushions on the floor. Wild & crazy days. They weren't a big name... yet.
Dolly Parton said Whitney made her a bunch of money with this one
I saw Cream at Chastain Park in Atlanta, October 1968. One of the greatest groups of all time, they were only around for 18 months so you had to be at the right place and the right time to see them live.
I'm not scared of dying And I don't really care If it's peace you find in dying Well, then let the time be near If it's peace you find in dying And if dying time is near, just bundle up my coffin 'Cause it's cold way down there I hear that it's cold way down there Yeah, crazy cold way down there And when I die, and when I'm gone There'll be one child born In this world to carry on, to carry on Now troubles are many, they're as deep as a well I can swear there ain't no heaven but I pray there ain't no hell Swear there ain't no heaven and I pray there ain't no hell But I'll never know by living, only my dying will tell Yes, only my dying will tell, yeah, only my dying will tell And when I die, and when I'm gone There'll be one child born In this world to carry on, to carry on, yeah yeah Give me my freedom for as long as I be All I ask of living is to have no chains on me All I ask of living is to have no chains on me And all I ask of dying is to go naturally Oh, I want to go naturally Here I go, hey hey Here comes the devil right behind Look out children Here he comes, here he comes, hey Don't want to go by the devil Don't want to go by demon Don't want to go by Satan Don't want to die uneasy Just let me go naturally
