First time I can ever remember seeing them before actually hearing them on the place.
Anyone else getting their first look today?
Been here eating juniper berries all winter. When they stayed I should have taken it as a sign of a mild winter coming, which we have certainly had.
They'll move up into the higher country in another month or so, following the snow line.
When the bad freeze hit Texas they showed up by the hundreds in my Holly bushes and cleaned them out in about half an hour before doing the same to my Yaupon berries. A swirling flurry of birds- of which over 90% or more were Robins. Was quite a site. I phoned others and was glad they got to witness the same thing at their places.
More that the usual here yesterday

Yesterday evening.
Daughter saw it...I heard it.
My favorite sound is robins in the early morning and early evening.
Saw the first one the other day here in SE Michigan. Woohoo!
Jim. I like daddy redbird waking me up in the morning. Im transported to hog hunting camp. They wake me there of a morning!!!
Good got some new pellets to try out
Blackjack and Baylor been trying to get after em going out the kitchen door into the dog gulag.
Baylor came about 2ft from getting a squirrel yesterday before it got up a tree.
He has been putting his front legs up on the trunk of that tree today looking up for that squirrel.
LOL!!!

Remember that time we set up in that cedar thicket and shot anything that landed in there? LOL

It was like grazing fire with shotguns on robins.
They didnt have a chance...

Saw our 1st one here yesterday.

Boy, ain't that the truth. One of life's simplest and finest pleasures.
No robins but some some sandhill cranes have showed up.

Those are fun to listen to as well.
I've seen them here all winter long. When we lived up north there were populations of them that never left, they just stayed in the woods....I'd see them back in the frozen beaver swamps and cedars when it was in single digits or colder.
We had hundreds of robins a few weeks ago. They stripped the red berries from the yaupon trees in the neighborhood. They were here when we had the below zero weather and after it warmed up they left.
I haven't seen any yet. They're usually here by now.
Lucky bastards....im a month out at least.
saw one last friday. it was snowing and the bird looked like it was thinking of heading back south.

except when morning starts at 3 am
I am always glad to see them show up in LA/lower Alabama during hunting season, it means the rut aint long off. They were right on time again this year end of the first week of Jan then full bore by the third week.
Had them here for a couple weeks. Showed up as soon as the temps went positive. Lots of crabapple trees in my neighborhood.

Summer Tanager?
I Googled Redbird...
Too early for Summer Tanagers, which are migratory wasp and bee specialists, more’n likely Northern Cardinals which are resident here year round.
Yes, I have been seeing and hearing them the last couple days, they have been eating the berries off the Mountain Ash tree here in my yard. They seem happy at this time of year.
Actually saw a bunch 3 weeks ago. The next week it was -20 and a foot of snow. Think their barometer is haywire.
They stuck around here all winter. I have seen them in February during some past mild winters, but this year I saw them quite a few times all winter long. They seem to congregate around the berry trees.
New pellets work just fine
No robins but some some sandhill cranes have showed up.
Saw and heard my first sandhill cranes this morning here in Northern Michigan, followed by my first grackle.

The way the weather is here in our area, I'll bet we don't have to wait a month.

We had a resident kildeer that would start squawking about 4:45 AM. I finally had to deal with him.
had a little flurry a few weeks ago but disappeared, been seeing a bunch the last few days though. Dog is having a blast chasing them.
They never leave here. But they haven't started singing yet.
A few got to NE WI. yesterday on the southern wind that we had. I only hope that what ever winter we have left is a mild one. A couple years back we had an early warm spell and the robins got here early, but we croaked a bunch when winter hit hard again. People were buying them meal worms in an effort to help tide them over.
They showed up after the big freeze and are still here, way more than usual.
I noticed the first robins here arrived a week ago. 👍
It’s a beautiful day here, chilly but beautiful.
Robins never leave here. Have them all over the yard all winter. Sometimes 20, 30+ on the lawn.
They better bring snowshoes and fur coats. 40" of snow on the ground, and it ain't done, just a pause. Gimmee 60-90 days.... Little bastards crap on my deck anyway.
Robins gone again. Weather says 25 to 30 inches of snow this weekend.
