I miss those days.
I used to prefer a nice halfzware shag.
I smoke Captain Black Regular. Sutliff also has a good blend called Maple Street. Sutliff also has a bulk blend called Creme Brûlée that is very nice.

Me too, Jim
Former. Quit years ago.
For fishing, burley in a cob is hard to beat. Get a Missouri Meerschaum, tamp full of Prince Albert or Carter Hall or Sir Walter Raleigh, fish away. If you drop it in the water, you aren't out anything. Watch out for a lot of the other drugstore brands - most others are gooped up with syrupy flavorings and humectants, and will fry your tongue.
Trying to quit cigarettes? Strong blends are your huckleberry. Look for English Lake District blends from Samuel Gawith and Gawith & Hoggarth. Quite a few of their blends are nicotine bombs and will help keep you from going insane for a cig. Samuel Gawith 1792 was a favorite.
I was never a huge fan of latakia blends or Virginia blends, but I'd you want to explore those I would take a look at offerings from Gregory L. Pease.
A simple black Cavendish for me
Years back and it seemed those with a great aroma tasted like sh-t. Conversely, those with great flavor smelled like sh-t.

Very accurate in my experience.
Back when I was in school ,a janitor use to smoke Field and Stream in his pipe, always like the smell of it
Maybe Hunter Biden will weigh in.
You're still buying from Amazon ? lol
Turd indeed.
At least he quit using that 60 watt light bulb with the guts taken out.
Dunhill Apéritif is good stuff!!!
Been a long time but Scandanavic was awful good. Don’t even know if it is available anymore. Captain Black for a second.
Take care, Willie
When I smoked a pipe, McClelland Frog Morton Latakia was at the top of the list. But I like any good Latakia.
Used to be for many years. Now just a good stogie here and there, but am seriously thinking of going back.
Only problem is that I can't find a good hand rubbed tobacco. My preference was always vanilla.
Today all I can locally buy would be pre-packaged smoke. Not for me.

Everything from corncob, Kaywoody white briar, others.
Corn silk, coffee grinds, Flying Dutchman,. Me mouth felt like the bottom of a bird cage.
I think Wabi smokes some gonja weed. Don’t hold out.
I'm a very infrequent pipe smoker, but I can recommend Brigadier Black Antietam and Dunhill Ready Rubbed.
As referenced above:

Hahahaha!
Hot dip galvanized....
Started in college in the 60's with Borkum Riff, Flying Dutchman, Sail etc.. Met an engineer at work who was a dedicated pipe smoker, he introduced me to english blends. Tried many of these both tinned and bulk before becoming a Dunhill 965 smoker almost exclusively. I always preferred the bulk over the tinned, the tinned seemed harsher to me.
More velvet in my pipe days.
This was a very generous gift from a forum member and it is tremendous.
I'm also liking G. L. Pease Quiet Nights blend and on the lighter side Presbyterian blend.

A long church warden for me
Did you ever smoke the Dunhill Nightcap? Back when I used to enjoy a cigar and grade papers in the tobacco shop I frequented there was another regular who often filled his pipe with that Dunhill blend.
a little sweet and a little lat does it for me

Mathman, I think there’s a can around here or up at the ranch. I do not think I tried it best I remember. I will next time Im up to the place.
All my pipes are Peterson's and I smoke a blend from my local place. "Normandy" (cavandish with a touch of black)
There was a day - still have a couple of nice pipes - can't seem to let them go. There were some esoteric and good but not expensive tobaccos available at a local shop - but the packages I remember were Capt. Black and something Amphora.
What were the pipes with the twisted stems?

Always liked a pipe. The smell of the smoke anyway.
Uncle smoked Borkum Riff (sp?). No clue if it was a good tobacco or not, but I sure do recall the smell.

Still available to try. ;-{>8 I liked it 50 years ago too.
My dad talked longingly of it when I was a kid, he quit when he married my mom. So after all us kids turned 18, I bought him a pipe and some tobacco. Gave him some pleasure the last 5-6 years of his life. I love the smell, but haven't indulged in it myself for years. I always forget to keep puffing to keep the coal going. Only time it worked out when when I was doing something monotonous like dragging a field, or roading a tractor for aways with nothing to do but sing to myself and puff on a pipe. I have a couple of my dad's pipes around. Been meaning to pick up a bag of vanilla cavendish and converse with my old man again.
