Commonly called up here, a (Paki whacker) about 3ft wooden club, one at the front door, one at the back door, one at my shop door and one under the seat of my truck. If they get around that then its empty hand.
The question as asked doesn't apply to me. In Wyoming (constitutional carry state) many carry handguns. I do, all the time. I also carry a lock blade knife, and I was trained on how to use knives as weapons when I was in the USMC and also when I worked for the DOD as a training officer. But my knife more a tool then a weapon. I work in my shop with my hands all day every day, and the use of my knife is something I do several times every day. I sharpen it every evening.
If I had to grab a tool and use it as a weapon I would probably grab a hammer of roofing axe. Another handy thing to have is a 40 inch hardwood short staff or very strong cane. (Walking stick)
But, as someone who used to earn my living in the world of violence and later trained troops to do the same, I can say this kind of questions are interesting for comparing thoughts, but are actually misguided. It's FAR MORE about the fighter then the tool. If you are trained correctly and you start to understand the real world you will know YOU are the weapon. What you have in your hand is a tool for that weapon to use.
If you have nothing in your hand and you think you are un-armed your training is not correct. Once you are trained correctly you'll see everything can be used as "force multipliers' from pencils to books to hair brushes to knives to handguns to AK47, M16s and FALSs. All are weak in the hands of a sheep and all are dangerous in the hands of a warrior.
Seeing you are in Canada I assume carry of a handgun is off-limits to you? I know nothing about knife laws in Canada today either. Last time I was there was in the Yukon in the 70s and the men I was involved with were part of the Canadian Army, so weapons were issued and common, but I can't say how the laws would be for those outside the military services. I might recommend a cane or walking stick and the training on how to use it to deadly effect. Once you know how to use such things to the maximum effect you can "throttle them back" as the need dictated. Something like this works well. https://lapolicegear.com/kabar-self-defense-9406-cane.html?avad=269625_e20c45aad
Szihn is correct, a weapon is simply an extention of your body, no matter the weapon. You need to be mentally prepared to use it, and defend against the same weapon.
Lately I've been carrying a NY reload. A Colt Detective Special in a Galco Hornet cross draw holster on my left side, and a Sig P-365 in a IWB holster on my right side.
Also pack a Buck 110 auto on my belt.
I have an aluminum "fish whacker" in the passenger seat back pocket of my truck, one in the kitchen, and a shortened maul handle in the TV room.
Know a guy gave a young road rager at his door a face full of starting fluid. Seemed to be very effective, except he was injured some and limped awhile afterward from kicking the fool in the ass as he was bent over holding his face crying the blues
actually, with the semi resurgence of the fashion of walking sticks...one of those Cold Steel shilalieghs would be the cats ass. i was also once taugh that a very very tightly rolled up Newspaper or magazine becomes a fairly effective baton
An “extremely” bright flashlight, many are smaller than a half smoked cigar! A momentarily blinded assailant, gives you and opportunity for other measures! memtb
Nobody lives in the arid West? That trusty Pony Featherweight 0 size irrigating shovel, kept sharpened for cutting blue grass sod is a formidable defensive weapon.
Sometimes known to be used offensively during water disputes.
I understand that back in the early days of the iron age, European peasants often carried a quarterstaff with which to fend off aggressive beggars and highwaymen.
If Pelosi and Biden have their way, we will not even be allowed to carry a wooden stave. Those methheads, tweakers, and vermin crawling out of the tenements have as much right to what we have earned as we do. Don't they?
They ought to be good for something, because the older ones damned sure didn't light much up.
You can buy LED bulbs for them. Very bright.
My 3 D cell has been upgraded thusly, still duller than hell. They ARE formidable weapons though. Almost to the point of carrying a real light and the Maglight just as a knocker.

Is it the Malice Green anodized red memorial flashlight?
got 19 staples in my head from one, it just pissed me off more.
I put a car hit button buck down with 2 swats to the head from a 4D cell Maglite. Made my swing so that I brought the edge of the but cap down on the thin spot on top of his skull.

No. I've never seen nor heard of that light, but I'm not a big Maglight fan. Mine is shiny black and probably thirty years old. Upgraded maybe fifteen years ago with an LED bulb. I think I've got a 2 D cell one the same color and an aluminum colored 2 C cell. Any of the three could be used for CQB. None of them are worth a shixt for illumination.
For decades accessible in both my house and truck are PR 24's. I've had them since my days as an MP in the 70's and 80's. I was an instructors in there use for a number of years. They are an effective tool. Not sure of their legality anymore in the vehicle but could care less.
Ran into a couple of Border Patrol Agents whilst hunting coyotes on night here in So Cal. They asked me if I "Seen any tonks?" I says what the fuqk is a tonk? They replied "Illegals, tonk is the sound of our Mag Lights when they come into contact with their heads"...
While browsing the pages of https://murderpedia.org/ I've taken notice that the more interesting, cooler mass murderers weapon of choice seems to often be a hammer or screwdriver.

Obviously not administered correctly with gusto.
The department banned us from carrying 3-cell or any Kel-Lites after a few “tonks “ went to the ER. It was ok to carry a Maglight as long as it was a 2-cell. Go figure that wisdom....

Had a Mountie smash 2 beers (bottles) off the back of a car with one swipe with a Maglite, lol.
A second handgun is also useful sometimes as well as a third in your boot, a couple of knives... a heavy cable in your belt loops... as well as matches and a gallon of diesel... and a jug of molasses as a appetizer for the bears.
Be prepared, I was not a Boy Scout but I did stay at a Motel 6 last night

I don't see where anyone mentioned a good short barreled pump shotgun "other than a handgun"...
I forgot about....I always have the 870 handy under the bed.
I also always have a rifle in the truck when I am at work, which is everyday. It is mostly for if I see a Wolf that should get shot, or maybe I have a breakdown and have to walk out.
Out in the bush around here you never know who you are going to run into, could be just someone on dope or thieves on dope, which happened several years ago. The thieves are always armed.
