Terrible wind out of the northwest.
You cant even speak when you face into it.
Sounds like you are choking on a schnitzengrüben.
Here too. Rearranging my deck furniture it is. I wanted to go to the range and do some chrono work. Not today.
Getting it here in central Wyoming too Jim. Enough dirt in the air here to choke a dang cow.
Screaming here in Lander WY, a rare occurance.
It’s been blowing like a bitch over here too. Tired of that crap.
At least the snow last night put out the big grass fires on the Blackfoot rez, that was sporty yesterday with 80 MPH winds. Today it's a bit of snow and 20MPH winds around here, feels fugging chilly being out in it.
As to the title, that adjective should ALWAYS accompany that noun.
blew down about 40' of my fence Fri.
Bad fires here in SD today
Also blowing like he!! in the Salt Lake valley right now too.
Bad fires here in SD today
As to your sig line: Atticus was great, but I really admired Heck Tate.
It was terrible here in Rigby last night too. It blew all night out of the South West and now it's coming from the North.
Bb

He's an underrated character for sure. The world could use more of each of them.

Just got back from the store and saw that they have brush fire down on the rez here.
If my dogs didn't have four legs they'd blow over here in NW NV right now. We're having dust and visibility warnings for most highways at the moment.
Don'tcha love early spring?
Blowing hard enough here that it snapped the road name sign off the top of the pole at the end of our road. I hopped out and grabbed it because I could just imagine the damage that aluminum could do if it got to fly in in this wind

Hopefully, all of those idiots who just couldn't wait for winter to end are enjoying this.
It's "Pitter" as in "Pitter-Patter", not Bitter.
Supposed to gust to near 60 here today and "Red-Flag" fire warnings.
Supposed to be over 70F degrees today, and ~10F by tomorrow AM then back into the mid-70's by the weekend. Gonna blow lots for a while.
Terrible wind out of the northwest.

Wind's nearly 50 mph outta the SW here today... We'll be getting YOUR winds tomorrow..
Blowing steady 40 MPH here, 60 MPH gusts.
here, 60 and 3mph, awesome
Might bang my sister after the propane tank truck leaves

They had one spark Sunday AM east of Glacier near Browning, by Sunday night it torched 25k acres of mostly grassland. They had to evac some homes but I don't think they lost structures. We had one Friday night behind my place torched 40 acres quick, thanks to good neighbors and a few volunteer fire fighters we knocked it down in a few hours. I realized I'm not in fire fighting shape yet coming out of winter and glad it was only a couple hours of work.
Not bad here but it’s blowing.

Belknap had a decent fire yesterday.
I had to stay home.
Red Flag warning here and blowing like crazy. Far eastern MT
Yeah, well top this. I went outside at work a couple hours ago to take a leak, but couldn't find the schitter.
The wind last night blew it across the parking lot. I had to take the forklift out and bring it back. I was surprised it did not tip over and leave a trail of blue and brown goo across the parking lot.
We’ve a gust or two in the low 30’s......very unusual for us! memtb
We're into the season when we burn flood meadows, stack yards, and feedlots to clean up uneaten residue. Typically a non issue, but when 50+ mph winds kick up, even 1-inch tall stubble burns as flames gets flattened out. I've looked at ground and would have confidently bet a paycheck one could not light it off only to see it blackened the next day.
Well it happened yesterday when a couple locals failed to catch the forecasts. With those winds, embers get airborne and dried cow patties smolder until they become paper thin and start rolling across the landscape like spark spewing frisbies. The difficulty is the front literally outruns ones extinguishing efforts.
Resulted in scattered burns amounting to 3 or 4 square miles here, but no stacks or structures went up. One fifth wheel rig, with a load of hay, drove blindly through a highway crossing plume resulting in ignition and loss of both the trailer and dually in front of my office. Fortunately, no big rig loads attempted passage.
Several years back with similar conditions we lost about 250 tons of our reserve meadow hay. Ended up being a lean year, and we had to buy to make though the subsequent winter. One lesson from that event was the all of ones eggs in a single basket deal. We split our stacks into smaller units now, as opposed to a continuous 100+ yd run. Once a stack lights off, there is absolutely no way to extinguish such a compact fuel package. If handy, one can run a cat through a long stack and potentially isolate the burn but the cat always seems to the 20 miles off on another job. With swirling winds and fine fuels left on the ground though, the fire often jumps across ones attempted division. Mostly, one just watches and tries to prevent spread.
Did notice this AM that my 25 ft travel trailer was turned a couple inches. Still have all the shingles on the house though.
Spring time wind is 60 to 80 mph but sometimes over a 100 mph here.
Today in upstate NY.
You can take a swing at it ?
1minute, do you run cows?
For insurance requirements and 'safety' we keep stacks under 100 ton(?) and have to have them a few hundred feet apart.
Fire whistle blew yesterday afternoon and we had a little grass fire 1/2 mile from one of our river bottom pastures.
I just now stopped by and thanked the chief(volunteer) and left him with a donation. It could be a long fire season...
Luckily it rained just enough to temporarily quell any danger today.
Pretty nasty outside so I came home early and pissed off my wife....lol
Cooling off now, low of 13F tonight.
Glad you worked through it dude.
Blowy here too. Power has been on/off, although buried here, LOL
Seems a bit used up compared to Jim's wind though, second hand wind.
Was 60F last night at midnight, a few snow flakes now. Figure some of the birdies are wondering WTH they're doing here now.
Fester, all good here man.
Just extra windy so I puzzed out and came inside the house!
First time all year I come home early on a week day and the woman is growling around on the warpath(about her work).
I'm hiding out in the laundry room like a whipped pup....lol
We had quite a wind storm yesterday. Hail (sporadic) and steady wind all day. The Vancouver island radio station I listen to said 90 kilometer winds.....

Watching a little Nascar dirt race at Bristol. First race I've watched all year.
Good thing Uncle Joe is not there. He would fall again the plain stairs
All my neighbors organic farming is blowing away.
We had just enough rain here this morning to toughen up our dust. It'd be extra nasty otherwise.
It is absolutely "screaming" here in central NH today. Blew so hard this morning that it blew one of my laying hens into a gallon milk jug.

just spoke to Keith out in Wyoming. He says its crazy with the wind there, and that a huge fire is crossing the Interstate near Rapid City, closing the interstate
It is breezy, we got some snow last night, it's the kind of cold right now that eats into you, even after you've gotten used to winter. Really penetrating. The snow was a good thing because I heard it helped the Blackfeet.
Spring
in
Montana. No doubt.

Well, that's why they named the town 'Chinook' right? It's windy here too but the Leg is in session and there's lots of hot air in town...
Stiff wind out of the SW,
If the wind blow yer hat off, don't chaise it, just grab on the next one blowing by.
It blew my wheel line up against an electric fence, trapping a calf between the pipe and the fence. Thank goodness it wasn't one of the horses or it would have been a real cluster. Luckily the calf didn't panic at all.

if ya happen to talk to him again tell im i still need to borrow his 'ricer'
It was a couple months ago now but we had a stash of 30" culvert 'disappear'.
Blew across a 40 acre hay field and stopped on the fence.
I had a calf shelter delivered this morning and was glad to see it show up before the wind kicked in. Mighta got a little squirrelly on the trailer.
LMAO at Conrad can't be speaking in to the brutal wind .

Sam:
1minute, do you run cows?
Retired now, but outfit I used to work with runs around 350 hd (Hereford/Angus presently heavy to Angus). Still run to the shop about every other day to help out if needed, as it was a good bunch to work for.
Yes, it's easy to lay out smaller free standing stacks, but one tends to maximize use of open ended barns and pole barns for his quality stuff. One tries to keep a well manicured buffer around such, but airborne embers and windblown patties easily traverse barren ground.
Outfit responsible for yesterday's burn is a larger family cow/calf unit with I'd guess about 1,500 hd. About 5 neighboring properties were affected, and most are fine neighbors understanding and in the past even responsible for such. The source might be held responsible for replacing some wood post fencing, but standing forage loss was minimal with pastures being mostly last year's stubble.
Can't speak to the dually and 5th wheel trailer load though. He actually started 7 or 8 spot fires before realizing his load was going up. Those, however, each consumed less than an acre.
Funny that few of us actually knew of yesterday's events as we can typically see the ground from here. With our winds coming out of the west, they were carrying dust and ash from last years regionally scaled Oregon Cascade burns, and visibility was down to about 1/4 mile. On a normal day it's about 75 miles and fires are quite obvious.
Have a good one,
Jim, I went to a high spot and ripped a nice big wet one an hour or so ago. Let me know if and when it smacks your nose.
I guess it burned 29 sq miles on the blackfoot rez Sunday, only one old building burnt. Then the blizzard hit and put the fire out. The fire above my place kicked back up Sunday with the winds, but the snow put it out also. The state were on it all weekend, I imagine they needed some hours after a long winter of no OT.

Frogsnacks.
Maybe give the cabbage and tacos a bit of a rest eh?
Had some burger needed used up and a pepper getting soft in the drawer. And lord knows I can’t resist a jar of kraut sitting on the shelf.
If it makes you feel better my old lady isn’t going to appreciate it on laundry day.

Learned that at about 410PM, my 24 year old nephew who is teaching in Southern Saskatchewan, was in an accident near the big moose at Moose Jaw. He figures he was passed out maybe 10 minutes. He has a contusion on the back of his head. They are doing a cat scan. Apparently his low back is also hurting. He's being kept in hospital overnight and maybe longer depending on what the scan shows.
My brother and SIL are heading to Moose Jaw in the morning. It is a right long drive from Daysland AB to Moose Jaw SK. Most of western Saskatchew highways were shutdown this afternoon because of the windstorm. Drifting snow and topsoil had visibility down to mere feet according to the local Moose Jaw media.
The nephew is getting married on August 1st, I hope he is OK and that my brother and SIL have safe travels. Prayers appreciated.
About ten years ago, I was riding my motorcycle from Great Falls over to Kalispell, in late October. It started snowing around Choteau and I had to quit at Dupuyer. I stayed overnight at a B&B and took off toward Browning the next morning. I was just west of Dupuyer when the wind hit. It was blowing from the SW and had to be blowing at 60mph+. I couldn't maintain speed in 5th gear (KLR 650) and struggled to stay on the road. I appeared to be the only guy on the road; all the trucks were pulled over. Wind eased up in Browning and, by the time I got to East Glacier it was semi-calm but there was six inches of snow on the road. I filled up with gas and coffee and headed west. On the other side of the divide, it was warm (ish) and I felt pretty smug about living on the west side of the Rockies. As I was riding from Dupuyer to Browning, I puzzled over why settlers would have stopped there. I figure the oxen must have died or the wheels fell off the wagon. Maybe those people were just tougher than I. GD

It's said that country 'grows on you', apparently I've never hung out long enough for the growing to take place.
I'd suppose for the early settlers some of those creek bottoms along the eastern front looked more appealing than the challenge of crossing over the Rockies.
You could farm and raise cattle there and access to the mountains wasn't too bad. The winters push all that game outta the mountains right down to you seeking winter range, how could it get better than that?
Dupuyer is one of the oldest towns in the region, things were happening there in the 1880s. They didn't event start building the railroad across Marias Pass until the 1890s and by then those settlers were calling that eastern front country home.

Thanks Rooster7. Appreciated.
I just talked to my brother. He and his wife have just crossed into Saskatchewan. So far the roads are clear except where snow drifted across. However, they are getting closer to the storm and where the highways were closed yesterday afternoon and evening. They still have 4.5-5 more hours to drive.
My nephew lives about an hour from the small town where he teaches. He had made to Moose Jaw and was talking to my brother, saying the roads were pretty bad and wondering if he should get a hotel for the night. He pulled onto the Trans Canada highway number 1, where traffic was stopped ahead of him. He was stopped and looked into his rearview mirror and saw a semi coming. It drove his VW Jetta into the semi in front of him. He is lucky to be alive!
He was to have a cat scan, but they are waiting until 24 hours after the accident. They know he has a minor brain bleed, but no pressure on his brain, so far. He'll likely be in the hospital another night.
Grateful that he survived, cars are replaceable.

Its amazing how safe today's vehicles are.
I hope everything turns out ok for him, that doesn’t look like a fun way to spend the day
The winds around here are always doing something.
Mostly it's around 20-30 with gusts but there have been times when it does 45-50 with gusts around 70+ and they tend to gust all day and most of the night.
Without the winds acting up this place would have more folks than you would want but still there are times when it starts i would rather be somewhere fishing.
Wowzers! Aside from front and side air bags, I wonder if that drywall helped the outcome of that wreck?
