We have been extremely happy with Samsung. Wife said she wants "Roku" or "Roku"-capable. Have no clue what she is talking about (and, in truth, neither does she). We watch very little TV but I like Braves baseball, SEC football and in-depth local weather when bad storms are on the way. So what I want to do is ease on down to Costco and get another Samsung. What should I be looking for?

Thanks, RS
my price point is not a TV from Costco. No doubt the TV's they carry are awesome TVs but dag...do they have anything that starts less than $800?

TQL, Visio, and Hisense make nice TVs that have pretty decent price points. They are disposable TVs. Last you 5-8 years and you throw them away. Any TV is Roku ready, but if you want Roku built in, then you want a smart TV that has the Roku system in it. Different brand makers have different types of smart TV, Roku is just one kind of platform, or you can just buy a regular TV and a Roku separately.
Have had good luck with Vizio.
Toyota.

They never ever, ever, beak.
And increase in value.

Unless you prefer Stihl!
After reading tons of reviews, I've always gone with Samsung. We are very happy with the ones we have. Our main TV is a 65" Samsung Smart TV.

I'm not real savvy on Roku either so I searched this up for ya.

Edit: I agree with the above. Costco and Sam's are pretty cheap on a lot of stuff. TV's are not one of them.

The first thing I'd buy is a lightning rod and then a new Samsung
Samsung.

lightning protection, then walmart.

TVs aren't furniture anymore.

they are disposable

and they are like smartphones, they spend a lot of time tracking what you're looking at.

every year you get bigger TV for same money, or same TV for less money

get a teenager to help you set it up.

menu hell
Newegg.com

Study for a few days, after you feel comfortable make your purchase.
Don't ever spray Windex on your flat screen TV to clean it. That resulted in a quick trip to Best Buy. The last few TVs I've purchased have been Samsung. LG makes a nice one too. I've watched them in some hotel rooms and they looked good.
Just make sure it has a 240 refresh rate. The 120 rate ones drive me crazy because I can see the jutter.

Costco puts their TV's and Electronics up front when you first walk into the store on purpose

The price points are so high that everything else you see in the store is cheap by comparison.
I have come to view tv's as a disposable item. After my plasma finally died, I picked up a westinghouse 54 inch smart tv (4k) for $327 on sale at Best buy. The 4k easily had a better pic, and the tv has been great for the year I have had it. I looked at Samsung and LG, etc... I wasnt able to justify the cost difference in my scenario.
yea, that's another thing you spend $1200 on a TV and in 3 years you can get the same technology at WalMart for $350.

Sony.
Costco definitely if you are a member and use their visa card to buy. Toss in the free 4yr warranty, cash back, concierge service. Shop online and in-store before deciding.

With the multitude of free applications for watching whatever whether or not you have Roku won't matter much.

For $500 you'll get a nice upto 55in 4KHDTV if something is on sale/special.

Walmart will probably be the cheapest on pretty much any TV you decide on. One perk to buying from Costco, though, is their free 2 years extra warranty over the manufacturers warranty.

I'm not too keen on Best Buy as I really don't much trust their "customer reviews" process. I've checked customer reviews on the exact same items at other retail sellers out of curiosity and found many were no where near as highly rated as Best Buy's reviews were.

I've had two new mid priced 48" LGs and both bit the dust in less than 4 years so I went with a 55" Samsung "Smart TV" this last time. Bought it from Walmart on sale for a real good price plus got a $100 Walmart gift card for buying that TV during a sales promotion. Into the third year now on the Samsung and so far - so good.
Get a line conditioner.

I bought a cheap Westinghouse 32” Model on sale at Best Buy for $79 for the Travel Trailer. It’s been a great little TV with no problems at all and the picture is just as good as my Samsung.
got a big visio and a big dynex. the dynex has been on about 16 fuggen hours a day for 10 years. i think you can get the same visio for about 200 bucks on sale.
Ground your antenna and head to Walmart.

The end.

You only have to be smarter or more informed than the item your trying to operate.
My son is a research-before-you-buy addict and he can tell you details of every set available if you are looking for something... what he found is there are different levels or grades of big screens and break down somewhat in the lowest levels having a 5000-6000 type model numbers, middle of the road are the 7000 type model numbers, and the higher grades start at the 8000 type model numbers- then you get into the super expensive sets like OLED and some of the newer super duper HD touch yourself quality picture sets with built in Alexa, Fire Stick, etc....

For the most part Costco covers the higher end models- a few 7000 series, a lot of 8000 series and lots of the best of the best . IMO this is why their prices seem a bit high but you get what you pay for and their additional in store warranty is hard to beat. If you are a member you can get on their email specials list and they will occasionally have killer deals on some of their sets. Their sound bars are usually priced very well also, IMO- for the quality you get.

But hey, half the fun is going into an electronics store and turning up all the TVs and sound bars as loud as you can and leaving the area though, right?

Oh yeah- get a good surge arrestor for your house and you won't have to replace so much electronics. As an electrician I saw some incredible electronics damage to peoples' home electronics, ranges, refrigerators, you name it due to lightning. These days everything has electronics installed and home insurance quite often doesn't cover damage to all of it...
An UPS for your next TV.
You can geta decent TV at WWorld for less than 600, but if you want sharp and clear you have get brightness in a more advanced technology.

You might find a sharp TV guy at Best Buy to show you the difference in picture quality between different price points and technology.

A damn good surge protector..
I shot my TV...... should I buy another? naah....

Those new smart tv's can spy on ya..... no thanks

Try reading a book instead.... wink
For the most part TV's are now disposable. The cost of parts (everything is on the Motherboard) I actually know how to repair them, but the cost is not worth the effort unless it is a very big built in expensive one. Get a surge protector, most multi outlet corded power strips have one built in and most likely you will need more than just the two outlets behind a TV set anyway. They are much cheaper than a TV set.. The cheaper ones are OK, but the quality comes in at a higher price point. Personally I have a Sony, about 10 years old and still going fine.
I hate the new led/oled pictures. We have a Panasonic plasma 50” from 2011. It has crapped twice. 200 to fix it. I just bought a 55” of same type, 125 out the door off of FB marketplace. Now I have a spare.

Correct.

No brainer, actually.
4K, Smart TV ...............................and a good surge protector. LOL

Samsung or SONY..............but some of the LG's are good too.

MM
Haven't had one in several years. I don't miss it. I'd say wait on black friday or something and see if you remember to buy one.
TVs are stupid cheap. Just be a man. Go shopping for one and make a decision.

LMAO
went to costco today to pick up some steaks and I remembered this thread.

The cheapest TV they had on display at my costco was a 65" for $749.

I don't think that was as bad price, but by comparison , Walmart has a 65" Vizio for $469
As far as I know they all come equipped to spy on the household now.

If you let them.

Me, I don't really give a crap. I'm not doing anything illegal by watching a movie every once in awhile.
best buy insignia,we have 3. no problems at all
No cable, have an antenna in the attic. Vizio TV, 12+ yrs. old, don't remember.. Works good.

Nowadays pretty much any and everything that communicates via the internet regardless whether hardwired phone lines, cable or satellite can be equipped to function as such.
Books
A surge protector.

I'm not much for spending a lot of money on the latest electronics technology today, a TV that sells for $2500 today will sell for $600 a couple of years from now. I was looking at a 75" TV for $699 the other day that had just been marked down from $999 because it was a 2020 model. Unless you're a hard core gamer or videophile the picture on any 4K TV now is far better than anything we ever had in the past. There really isn't a reason to buy a top of the line set for 99% of us.

TCL and Hisense seemed to offer the best bang for the buck right now. A lot of TCL sets are Roku if your wife wants that. Of course they're chinese but the rest of them are mostly made in China anyway, you're going to get chinese with a Samsung also even though they're a korean company. I wouldn't pay extra for a name.
I'd suggest a CZ 457 if one can find it along with a bit of ammo
436 channels and nothing on worth watching! We cancelled cable/satellite/OTA TV 15 years ago and do not miss it one bit.

try it!
