So they opened a place to sell your plasma in the big town 35 miles from here.
Something I always heard of as a joke, college kids and druggies.
Several guys from work and their wives do it. A weird pay scheme. $95 the first time, $85 for several after, then a $30 bonus, over $100 then one at $30...
They feel like they are really doing something, I do math. Almost 2 hours of travel. Wait time, admin crap, minutes to an hour. An hour hooked to a machine that sucks your blood, runs it through a machine, And returns it. Probably gonna eat out, another hour.
So I buy 43gallons of gas, $20 to eat, Waste 4 to 5 hours, To come with $65. And no one knows if they are gonna get a 1095 and owe taxes. But they did have to give their SS# on the forms.
Have donated blood, would give plasma to save someone, but this just makes me uneasy. Every single one of these couples is in an income situation where they shouldn't need to sell blood. Most can use the money though. But probably really won't benefit from it. The one guy's wife has been talking about borrowing more, even though they feel the need to sell their phuggin blood for cash!
WTF! Middle Age, Middle Class, Well Employed, White, Rural, Not Chemically addicted! And no, they ain't doin it to help no one, haven't heard that mentioned, Just the $$$. And man are they promoting it.
Because, If you recommend someone, you get a bonus with your next trip. They even have a roulette wheel you get to spin on certain "visits". You win a candy bar, or a free soda...WTF! Again.
The neighbor got a quote to fence his yard for 17K and he and his wife are selling plasma to help finance it. True though about being able to afford it without the blood draw because she is an RN and he is a tech school teacher. Both had Covid-19 and they get a premium for their plasma added on. Given that the more well to do better fed and healthy types are the ones giving blood and selling plasma in these parts, if I ever need some I'd rather tap those people than some skid row wino.
I worked as a plasmapheresis specialist for a few years (drew plasma from people at places like this), but this was for RhoGam. If you have children, chances are your wife was given this drug depending on your and her blood RH factor. Anyways, the donors come up to twice a week, get paid $55 per donation, and up to $30 for travel (depending how far away they live). The difference between this type of donation and your typical plasma donation is these donors ae injected with bed blood cells to create an antibody collected through plasma, so there are a LOT more restrictions and variables with this type of donation. When I left, there were approx. 430 donors, I knew each one by name, their histories (medical and personal), talked with them while donating, and they all have a few reasons for donating. Most reasons were the $$. I mean, if they made every donation, it came out to like $5k a year tax free, since it was considered a donation. Some say they did it strictly for the babies/women that needed it, and I believe them. Some can't afford to donate $, so they do this, or donate blood. There are donors who have been coming in for over 20 years and age out at 70....that's some dedication giving up 1.5-2.5 hours a day, twice a week. Regardless of what plasma is used for plasma is BIG MONEY.
A couple of guys on my roofing crew, I had dropped them off there a couple of times on short days we worked. Also I recruited some ‘new blood’ for laborers there too. lol
I had a enterprising idea of opening up my own plasma center, instead of cash payout- I would do a barter with Pampers, scratch-off lotto tickets, or malt liquor. It’s what they do with the money anyway, why not ‘stick it to em’ coming and going.

i used to walk by one of those places in the lower hill district of pittsburgh where i parked for cheap. the sidewalks would be littered with little bloody cotton balls with bandaids on them. and everyone that was in the place and standing around outside looked like Tyrone Biggums.
I used to donate every 8 weeks, for years, It was Bonfil's then. Its some other company now.
When the 'rona hit, those formerly friendly young women became covid Nazi's. Started asking for ID,started taking temps, having people wait in the hall in order to social distance. Then it became donation by appointment only with no shortage of mask wearing dimwits waiting in line.
I told 'em GFY. It is my life blood after all and to expect some courtesy and comfort for handing it over gratis isnt to much to ask.
Then they started calling every other week (I have an uncommon blood type) wondering when I'd be in? As of now its never, take your unfriendly vampire bitches and give them some lessons in etiquette. If I had gotten even 50 bucks per donation I could've purchased several rifles. when I hear you say 85 I get kinda pissed I didnt sell it to be honest. If I ever do have any more drawn, it'll be at a price.
They very likely give it to people I wouldnt want to have it if I knew them anyway.

I’ve been donating plasma since 2003, the pay is usually $20 first time and $50-70 2nd time in week. Takes about 1 hr and 15 minutes Good extra non taxed money put on a debit card
Yup, that's who I worked for. Shìtty ass company. Almost had to close a few days because they couldn't keep enough nurses to actually stay open. Nearly half the staff quite or moved to different companies within a few months. On two separate occasions I saw nurses leave for lunch on their FIRST DAY and not come back. Two people working for the previous company for 20+ years left a month after KEDPLASMA took over.
Even though what they average paying donors for blood / plasma may sound like pretty good money, it's no where near as much as what hospitals typically bill for transfusions.
