I have about 5 gallons of quarters, the banks will not take them unless rolled and Coinstar charges 12%

Any other options?

Ummm,roll it up grin

I suggest you give them no quarter!

Your bank sucks then.

Mine doesn't want them rolled.

Bring in bag of change and they run it thru their counter.

Wells Fargo does suck but I can’t find another one that will take them either.

Throw them at homeless people.
Posted By: hunter4623 Re: Quarters - 04/16/21
Take a loan out from your bank and pay them back in quarters
Posted By: rem141r Re: Quarters - 04/16/21
you got a schit ton of money there. find a bank that will run it through one of their counting machines. a local store has one here but they charge some percentage. my wife does it with our change but it ain't no where near 5 gallons of quarters. more like a quart or 2 of pocket change.
Posted By: Certifiable Re: Quarters - 04/16/21
Don’t know if it’s an attractive option for you but the coin star here takes 10% but if you choose to take your money in Amazon credits you get 100% value
Posted By: Stophel Re: Quarters - 04/16/21
Start paying for everything with quarters.
Posted By: hunter4623 Re: Quarters - 04/16/21
5 gallons of quarters is $3k. Buy yourself something nice....like a couple cases of 5.56 on gunbroker

LMAO, did that once. Put em all in paper rolls, took to the bank where they proceeded to rip open all the rolls. Ran em through the machine to separate all the Canadian and 90% that might be there. Do it, it’s fun.
Posted By: Stophel Re: Quarters - 04/16/21
I'd gladly roll quarters for $3000.

And then I'd buy $3000 worth of silver quarters.

It looks like torture. My bank takes them loose.

Posted By: jaguartx Re: Quarters - 04/16/21
Ill take them.
Posted By: blindshooter Re: Quarters - 04/16/21
My credit union has a machine in the lobby, stick card in it then load coins. It gives you a receipt to take to the teller, all your money goes into your account.
I usually dump off around 5-6 hundred bucks a trip.

Pre ‘64 quarters are silver alloy and worth the time to sort. About $4.70 each.
Posted By: renegade50 Re: Quarters - 04/16/21
C o ck sucking banks and stores were paying extra for coins during the scamdemic last year at times.

Take a fugging personal loan out.
Pay back with rolled up quarters for several payments

Then do double monthly payments with em.

Fugging paying the c ock suckers a % to cash em in

Then when they get stupid and annoyed.

Have em show ya in the fine print where it says you cant pay in this manner.

I would do it just to be a dick and get a good laugh out of it.
Posted By: Kenneth Re: Quarters - 04/16/21
Local bank takes any coins you bring in, in any container and drops them in the counter....No Charge.

12% is ridiculous. 360 bucks? (if 3k) Like hell.

I have my kids roll them.

Their cut is 20%.

Some Indian casinos have change counting machines. I don't really gamble, but when my change jars are full, I take them with me when I know I'll be driving past a casino. The coin machine prints out a voucher that can then be used in a slot machine, or cashed out in an automated machine.

Cost is nothing unless you spend it at the casino. I usually spend $5.00 at a slot machine, then cash out the rest.
Posted By: 700LH Re: Quarters - 04/16/21
Any casinos nearby?

Yeah - find another bank that actually has a coin separator machine.. Both banks I frequent in town have 'em - one is 'self-service'.. Easy-peasy..
Posted By: muleshoe Re: Quarters - 04/16/21
My bank'll take 'em. Your bank does suck.
Posted By: MD521 Re: Quarters - 04/16/21
Around here the bank says you must put your name and account number on the rolled coins you are selling back to the bank. Strange indeed.

My bank made me do that, but if I deposit them in my account they don't.

My question is how does one accumulate 5 gallons worth of quarters, keep each one you've come across during your entire life?

Thanks. That’s a possibility.

You can get 100% value on the gift cards they offer as well.
I just cashed in a couple hundred in coins for my mom, got H.D. & Lowes gift cards that I will keep & use, she gets the cash.
Look on their website to find a machine near you that will give the gift card option because not all their machines have that option.
You can also see the other gift card options as well.
Figure out what gift cards you want & how you want to split it up.
Do this ahead of time because what you put in the machine can not be split up between cards.
If you put in $100.00 you can't split that, it all goes on one gift card.
To do more than one gift card you have to do it in batches.

Many banks have coin counting machines. Find one of those and take your quarters there. You might need to reduce from 5 gallons to a quart though.

This day and time I think I'd keep coins instead of converting. But thats just me. Any coin is bound to have some value vs the cloth bills eventually.

Pay your property tax with them. Stand there patiently while they count them and then ask for a receipt.

Etherelda noticed that Flouncine had jars and jars of quarters on shelves. She remarked, "You must have had to hoard those for a long time." Flouncine replied, "Naw, not that long. My sister whored half of them."

Use cash rather than a debit/credit card. I don't use cash all that often and I've got a 5Qt ice-cream pail full of quarters. I throw a handful in a baggie when I want to use the coin-operated self-service car-wash.
Posted By: Bob_H_in_NH Re: Quarters - 04/19/21

Banks suck, if they want them rolled, they want account number incase your rolls are wrong, they are just going to dump them in the coin machine, so why not take the coins.

Our bank went back and forth, one day we could take them in a jar, next they needed to be rolled, then back to the jar. We changed banks. They are money, legal tender, you should be able to go in with teh bucket, put it on the counter and say "deposit this", just as if it was a stack of bills.

My friend had a 50 cal ammo can full...took them to town and the guy at the video game arcade treated him well, did the counting and sorting work...just a thought. He did a sample weight estimation, the video guy came awful close to the 450 dollar estimate.

Mine too. No way I'd deal with Wells Fargo. They are an ongoing criminal enterprise IMHO.

I'm willing to bet the bills will make far better TP than coinage.
Posted By: PJGunner Re: Quarters - 04/19/21
Google up Accuwrapper. It's a motorized deal that will even put the coins into the rolls. It will separate the various denominations and put them in the proper roll. Says it's not for high volume use on the box but I did a bit over $800 in mixed coins with it in under an hour. Dunno what they cost as my daughter sent it to me. It runs on a couple of batteries.

They didn't like my idea when I told them it would be more cost effective to try to keep their existing customers than to try to attract new ones. They seemed willing to piss off and lose a good long term customer over some small petty fee and then spend 10 times that fee to attract a new one.
