House voted and it passed to make DC a state 216/208, hope the senate does the right thing

Requires a 2/3 vote from all the states to change the Constitution, doesn't it?

More Dem fuquing virtue signaling to fire up their base.

There will be two "US" flags...one for the blue states and one for the red states...minus the blue states after the break up.

Rule #5 being implemented.

In May 1919, at Dusseldorf, Germany, the Allied Forces obtained a copy of the “Communist Rules for Revolution.”
1. Corrupt the young: get them away from religion. Get them interested in sex. Make them superficial; destroy their ruggedness.
2. Get control of all means of publicity. Get peoples’ minds off their government by focusing their attention on athletics, sexy books, plays and other trivialities.
3. Divide people into hostile groups by constantly harping on controversial matters of no importance.
4. Destroy the peoples’ faith in their natural leaders by holding the latter up to contempt, ridicule and . (speak against, condemnatory utterances)
5. Always preach ;true democracy; but seize power as fast and as ruthlessly as possible.
6. By encouraging government extravagance, destroy its credit; produce fear of inflation, rising prices and general discontent.
7. Foment strikes in vital industries; encourage civil disorders and foster a lenient and soft attitude on the part of government toward these disorders.
8. By special argument cause a breakdown of the old moral virtues; honesty, sobriety, continence, faith in the pledged word, ruggedness.
9. Cause the registration of all firearms on some pretext with a view of confiscation of them and leaving the population helpless.

The constitution only requires a majority in each house, not 2/3. In the past it took other acts of congress, too, but I'll bet they bypass that.
Posted By: Idaho_Shooter Re: Voted DC statehood - 04/22/21
Changes to the Constitution require ratification by a super majority of the states. That is why the ERA died. They never got the required number of states to ratify.

But I do not know that DC as a state is a Constitutional issue, or a legislative issue.

How was DC identified as the Capitol?
Posted By: KenMi Re: Voted DC statehood - 04/22/21
If the Senate did the right thing, probably 2/3 would turn themselves in for felonies, resign, or jump in the Patomic
Posted By: Idaho_Shooter Re: Voted DC statehood - 04/22/21
Google says DC was established in 1790 as decreed in COTUS. If that is correct, it sounds like a constitutional amendment would be the qualifying event to make it a state.

Wrong. The Constitution requires the seat of the govt to be unattached to any single state. That is why they carved out the section from MD and VA as a district outside of state control. The seat of the govt cannot be its own state. Now, they can reduce the size of the district and allow the left over area to do something but the original agreement was if they did that the land in question would revert back to the original states. So people can find themselves residents of VA or MD rather than DC and that would not change the make up of the senate.

Granted the above requires the DEMs to adhere to the original agreement and we all know they won't do that.

All they have to do is split the district. Leave the 10% of it with all the federal buildings as the seat of government and 90% as a new state. They have it all figured out. It would be our only purely welfare state...until they admit Puerto Rico.

Bring it on. Tired of all their Maxie pad talk.

Besides this, giving illegals citizen hip, and letting many more into this country ,they are guaranteeing that we will never see another Republican POTUS in our life time unless we have civil war .
Trump scared the hell out of the deep state and they will do everything in their power to maintain their power, legal or other wise.

Corruption in its purest form, decocraps don't even try to hide their disdain for the country.

One more reason they want to pack the supreme court. That would guarantee that any constitutional challenges would be ignored.
Posted By: JeffP Re: Voted DC statehood - 04/22/21
Might as well use the constitution as toilet paper

Adding a state does not require a 2/3 vote of the states. See artile4 section 3 of the Constitution.
Not sure about how/if this would apply to D.C.
Posted By: Tico Re: Voted DC statehood - 04/22/21
Not a constitutional thing but 60 votes needed to make it so...

Can be filibustered....

Those in favor have long denied it being a Constitutional issue. Easiest solution to the “unrepresented citizen” issue has long been available, just give the residential sections back to MD and add a Representative if the population count merits that. Since it’s really about giving the Dems two free Senators, they’ll try the cheap and dirty way. Can't see this getting past the filibuster, or the SCOTUS.

That’s all this is, a continuation of the power grab.
Posted By: LeonHitchcox Re: Voted DC statehood - 04/22/21
The Dems want another blue state so badly that they will do anything to get it. The whole point of DC was that having the capital in a state would automatically make that state too powerful. Jefferson wanted the capital in the south and worked out a logrolling agreement with Hamilton. Jefferson got the capital in the south and Hamilton got his tax plans passed.

Isn't DC a sovereign foreign land (Vatican owned, or ruled)?

Nonetheless, they better hurry, because Gitmo has rooms impatiently waiting for most of these miscreants.

What would they name the state, Swamp?
