I can remember the first time I saw DAC. It was a a KPFT (Radio Pacifica) benefit concert in the Colesium, Houston, Texas. He was play along with Kinky Friedman and the Texas JewBoys.
At that time he billed himself as the Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy...........

A couple years later ( say 1974) he played the Dean Goss Dinner Theater where his schtick was to end his gig with this song. After a couple stanzas, he would run off the stage and cold cock some guy, then run outside, jump in his Corvette and boogie!
