my daily wear boots are double h ice boots. Simply indestructible. replacement heels keep them going and I can't wear them out. but I do like to wear some dress boots, double h doesn't make exotics. the average boot sold in the stores IMO is junk these days. Even the exotic boots that tony lama, justin, etc make that are sold in stores IMO aren't what they used to be. They aren't like the tony lamas made 30 years ago. Tecovas seem like they are built pretty well, and I have a couple pairs. sizing a bit small for me. What else is out there?
Wow, I can not imagine buying boots without trying them on. I never know whether a particular boot will fit me in a 8.5 or a 9 or a 9.5. Not even within the Tony Lamma label. One pair will end up 8.5 EEE while the next is a 9.5 D.

Right now I am wearing Lammas in a chocolate shrunken shoulder for my town boots. I preferred their African Antelope and that is all I would buy for twenty years. But that boot has become unobtainable in any store around here.

I really prefer the synthetic soles which have come on my last couple pairs of Tony Lammas. It saves me the cost of having synthetics retrofitted to new boots after purchase. I am way too old to be falling in every bit of snow or slush encountered on the sidewalk.

If I could find a way to order custom made boots in a good looking and durable leather, and know they would fit, I would be all over that.

I certainly miss my old Nocona elk hide boots for work and hiking, and my Justins for chasing women.
Beck Boots in Amarillo, TX It is worth the trip.

ideally YES I hear you, all cowboy boots fit a little differently. cow leather seems to stretch to the fit it needs to for me, the exotics like ostrich and caiman never seem to stretch. nearly everyones boot in 12 fits me, tecovas a bit small. I will try 12.5 next time.
My next pair of walking around boots will be Luchesse.
I've got a pair of Double H work boots that are like Iron.
I've wore out several pair of Justin over the years.
If you get a chance to go through the Justin Boot factory its pretty impressive.
Tecovas
Anderson beans can be bought online.

Made in USA.

Same company as Rios of Mercedes and Olathe boots.
Do they still have a Payless shoe store in your area?

Might be more your speed.
I can't imagine buying boots without trying them on first! Kinda like buying a car without driving it first!

Yeah my feet and ankles are so jacked up I can't wear a lot of boots. I have this thing where I will try to kick my shoes off before coming inside. I can kick off one shoe but have to untie the other one. Crocs for the win unless I'm leaving the house.
Wearing a pair of Double H elephant hides right now. Don’t know if they still make them. Anderson bean is where it’s at though.

It’s the Harley sportster 883 of footwear.
If you want handmade, I have been very happy with my customs from American Boot Company in Amarillo, TX, Not cheap, but cheaper than most customs. They will snd you a kit to trace your foot and last time I checked lead time was like 12 weeks. Belly Cayman with matching belt for $700 all in. I like round toe boots and except for work boots, they are difficult to find. Hate the look of the square toes, but apparently that is the style for now. Becks in Amarillo, as previously mentioned also makes nice boots.

Regards,

Kris

I could kinda go for the ones with the Dia de los Muertes skull .

But, for sure one would have to tuck their pants in the top and that's just too 'hick" for me.
Get the kind that come with a free bowl of soup.

TFF.
Even Deflave wouldn't buy Birkenstocks without trying them on first.

This on-line boot chit makes ZERO sense. Seems like it takes 1 in 20 pairs to find something I like.

The dreaded 883
The cowboy boots in our local Rural King are dreadful.

Put me down as another one that will not buy online, so I can't help you there, and yes a lot of the old popular brands are now made overseas and are shidt compared to their former quality, but what conditions are you gonna wear them in? I personally can't bring myself to pay more than 200-250$ for a pair of boots, because I ride nearly every day and am kicking my feet into stirrups or coming in contact with manure or urine...etc. Having said all that, I find Ariats to be a solid boot if you get something like the Heritage Rough Stock. I have to replace the foot bed once a year, but tend to get 2-3 yrs use out of them. Avoid the rubber sole and heel boots without leather midsoles. They are not supportive enough in my experience.

Another brand I am trying is the Twisted X brand. Seems like a decent boot, though the finish comes off them every time I give'em a hard look. grin

But anyway, good luck with your search.

Byron
If I ever order cowboy boots online by tracing my foot on a template, just shoot me behind the ear.
I have a pair made about every ten years, they fit perfectly, have new soles put on three or four times.
Tecova
Buying cowboy boots online without trying them on sounds pretty stupid to me. But hey it’s a brave new world.

My feet are oddly sized - Beck makes boots to order, and sends a kit with instructions on how & where to measure your feet for a great fit.
It's so simple, I didn't trust it. Went to their store, got measured - and the measurements were right on.
Expensive, but worth every $
If you have a make/model/size/width that you like and fits well, online is very easy.

I would just hop in a plane and go get a burrito and a pair of boots to go!
Stewart boot company in Tucson. 520 622-2706. Talk to Vic. Hand made, great fit.
I buy a lot of things online but cowboy boots wouldn't be one of them.
Some brands are definitely not what they used to be, and I'll be danged if I wear Chinese Ariats like I see a lot of people doing. Anderson Bean and Black Jack are what I wear now. Can be had pretty much any way you want them and are made in the USA like boots should be. You can find plenty of places to try them on and then order exactly what you want. Most boot/western stores suck these days.

Last two places I've ordered boots in stock were Dennards and NRS. I just order the two most likely sizes and keep the one that fits best. Better than trying to find a store around here with anything other than cheap brown boots.

Going on my 4th pair of Boulets.

Make that 5, keep a nice pair that I wear out maybe twice a year. They'll last forever!
Have 2 pair of Becks, first found out about them when I was rodeoing a bunch and talked to Lynn Payne, who's dad started the "One Armed Bandit" rodeo act. Basically I have a tall pair and a short pair. Nothing too fancy on mine. I was skeptical of the fitting process, but Lynn assured me they would be great. Absolutely the most comfortable footwear I own.

Also have several pair of Boulet Boots. When St.Tite rodeo wasn't near as big as it now, they used to give everyone working in the arena and back pens a free pair each year. Think I still have a few pair NIB.
Ordered Beck’s 18 years ago, and they were way too tight. Even the re-makes were too tight. They are under different ownership, now, so gave them another chance a year ago.

Went to the shop, and tried on their “stock “ boots, first, and THEN got re-measured for a new pair. Was trying on 11.5/12’s. They both fit really well. They were telling me they would probably recommend a 10.5 last, based on their measurements, to build me a pair. Went to try on a 10.5 stock boot, and couldn’t even get my foot in it.

Told ‘em I’d be happy to order a pair, but only if they built them on a 11.5 or 12 last. They did, and they fit great.

This likely won’t help YOU, since you’re so far away, but for folks nearby, who want a pair of Beck’s, I HIGHLY recommend trying on their “stock” boots, FIRST, before ordering customs, because their tendency is STILL to size them too small, in my opinion.
