I will not criticize a law enforcement agency placing a WARRANTED tracking device. Especially on known "serious" drug offenders.
Guess she doesnt want to be Breonna #2
Bozos at the placement job! Probably cost them a case! Now all her accomplice 's know their being observed!
I don't agree with you, Shoots.

THing is, when your home or property is searched, a warrant has to be presented and you KNOW about it at some point. Secret tracking, whether it is your unit, or your phone, bank transactions, etc etc? How can you possibly know? That's stuff the KGB and J Edgar wet-dreamed about.

Well, if you support cops behaving that way - and even if you give them the benefit of doubt about the potential warrant shortfall - would you not still criticize them for such sloppy work in the process, and the stupidity of enabling her to capture their device - and then begging her to give it back? I might.
I do believe the smartest thing would have been to remove the tracking device and place it on a semi at a Love's or Pilot station. And keep quiet about it.

He forgot that.

I knew a rancher who did exactly that. Shot a Mexican Gray Wolf, collared. Wondered WTH to do. Pulled into a local restaurant, threw the carcass into a north-bound end dump, and went on his happy little way.
Told me he wondered how the trackers felt, following a signal doing 75 mph - along I-25!

'Specially since we "don't have Mexican Gray's north of I-40!" smile
Great story, Mark. Ive heard of a few others.

No, I did not forget about that stuff.
I just assume all of it is happening and understand there is not a damned thing I can do to prevent it.

I assume every word I type here is monitored by AI somewhere. Every transaction on my credit card is tracked. Every penny through my bank accounts is tracked.

Repeat the "Serenity Prayer".

. Why didnt she stick it to a RR Car

Knowing the color of this individual, I’m guessing she couldn’t spell RR .
If you put something like that on someone's car then you're abandoning it. If I find something on or in my car then it's mine. Sorry the cops lost their tracker but I'm pretty sure the state police can afford a new one.
This one went well from my standpoint, except for the Keystone cops thing.

Do a bit of research, this is becoming a thing.
One guy found it and took it off.
There was a warrant served SWAT style because he "stole" police property.

Then research Open Lands and what Leo's can and often do on private
property, without a warrant, involving cameras.

Boys, the balance between police powers and freedom is shifting
away from freedom. And too many people believe it's ok to violate
the privacy rights of a (suspected) criminal. After all, they (supposedly) do/did bad things.

But our civil rights were established for a reason.
And even though those regulations for the police involve bad guys,
The laws are there because they protect the rest.

This really is a slippery slope situation.
Do I care if they push the boundaries to catch a druggie or killer?
No! Not as a one off.

But!!
What s allowed becomes new policy and the limits shift, until
They are pushed again, then another shift.

When do we get investigated and searched because we parked in a school zone in a car registered to a CCL holder? Or just a gun owner?

PSP scan every license plate automatically.
Registration validity is noted on ever car in the vicinity of
the cruiser. I'm sure warrants are included in the program also.

Daughter was pulled over because she drove past a trooper
who was in the process of parking in the median.
Somehow as he was parking he was able to be watching the screen and
knew that of several cars going by/sitting at the red light,
she was driving an Impala, with plates registered to a Subaru.

Right? Wrong? I don't know.
But I bet there were a bunch of Pa, Ma, and Va boys from 240 years ago
who wouldn't have approaved.

This^

Patriot Act, the road to hell is paved with good intentions
If a tracking device gets moved to another vehicle, someone did it. If you find one on your car, just drop it in the street.

Bruce
I wonder if aluminized duct tape would block the signal.
Just cover it?

Check a couple days back Lehto's law YouTube video.
He is a lawyer who cover this exact situation, with other videos
hitting other examples.

A lawyer who presents some interesting situations, he cover a bunch
of topics.
