A friend of mine in Hope, Ak watched the moon walk live on the best TV in town (of 3). Frank , his host- a Tennessee hillbilly exploded- "That's a [bleep] Government lie- they are just walking around in Arizona someplace so they can raise our taxes. It's just a goddam Government lie!"

His wife, knitting back in the corner, commented," That's what you said about television, Dear"

So answer this....
The Russians were watching Apollo 11 telemetry.
If the race to the moon was propaganda against Russia, why didn’t the Russians call BS and expose the lying capitalist?
After all, our “space race victory “ bankrupted them....

They all were. It's hard to imagine a more dream team that Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins.

Even if you're not a science guy, this lecture is worth watching with Armstrong and Aldrin - https://infinite.mit.edu/video/neil-armstrong-and-robert-seamans-jr-engineering-aspects-lunar-landing”-mit-25th-anniversary

Well Deke had picked Gus to land on the moon first.
So sans the fire it would had been Gus Grissom, Ed White, Roger Chaffee
