Corey seems stable at this time his surgeon told keith he wasn't out of the woods quite yet but slowly improving. they had to take him off the respirator as he was breathing ok on his own as well as BP slowly returning to normal...Certainly good news with many prayers answered..

Spoke with Keith just a bit ago. Corey was riding in the dark, around a curve, and a truck pulled out in front of him. To avoid a car also in the mix, he let go of the bike. Not wearing a helmet, dammit.
His BP is back to normal, MRI scan showed nothing with regards to brain damage, but he broke every bone in his face, and probably every bone on the right side of the body. He can breath on his own now, and doctors are guardedly positive right now. He is not talking though.

Keith texted a little bit ago.

According to the Neurosurgeon (who was very optimistic), Corey's pupil fixed stasis looks to be due to swelling. If he stabilizes, they are going to move him to a more specialized hospital.

Hoping hard for Corey & the family for full recovery. Texted w/EH earlier when he was standing in vigil in the ICU. As was said, EH told me that the trauma team is cautiously optimistic and with BP improvements they were planning to move Corey to a specialized care unit in Denver. When EH was my guest here along w/Doc Rock and STX, he had a couple long conversations w/my old man, as they shared similarities as far as work in the engineering field. I hope hard that they'll also have another similarity: that they both have sons who survived horrific M/C wrecks that most wouldn't have survived. EH wrote that the MRI of C's brain did not show any damage, which is a blessing in itself. Last thing, and I don't GAS if anyone takes issue w/my saying so: wear a fuggin helmet. If I wasn't wearing mine on that hot August day in '86 I'd have died on scene. That wreck cost me my right lung and years of pain and injuries that still plague me, but I'm still here 35 years later thanks to Drs. Tortella & Christiansen, Shoei helmet and God, probably... Godspeed to C and his fam'. I brought lobsters for Corey a couple years ago @ antelope camp but he never made it over. Bet the next time, if a repeat hunt happens, those bugs any every other bite he takes tastes like Heaven.

Keith texted me earlier today, these are his words, the whole family needs prayers.

Sad news, went to see Corey yesterday. He is unresponsive and has not improved since he has been there. They can fix bones but cannot fix his brain. There was much damage at the molecular level. The Doctors explained it as shaken baby syndrome only much worse. He is now in hospice care being kept comfortable until He passes.

This saddens me very much to hear this, I have two adult Sons, I will pray for Corey and his family.

I had a younger brother with similar injuries from a car accident...his name was Corey.

I can't believe that some how I have missed this entire thread this month.... I know I have been busy, but Geesh...

Keith, my deepest prayers and condolences for you, and your family... and heartfelt prayers for Corey to still recover.

I had a crash in 2000 on my motorcycle.... my 6 year old son asked me to quit riding it....so I did...

I pray God is with your son every step of the way and decides it is best to let him pull thru this...

I got to know his son on the campfire here back around 2012 or so, via PMs, we PM'ed a lot back and forth.

What shocks me most about it, is this is a young man who has been thru a lot, that is not being brought up...

Corey has had, and has survived 8, that is EIGHT, deployments to the Middle East, first with the Marine Corps and then with the Wyoming National Guard.

I think of that having been endured by Corey and now this....It just isn't right....

God, I don't know what you are thinking or have in mind, but this young man needs to be allowed to live.

If I didn't have a son and wife, that would hate to see my passing, then if God would let me, then I'd give ALL of the years of life I have left for this young man so that he may live., I thought the world of Keith's son.. a young man who has served our nation, and served it a lot, and in harms way...

Please God, don't take him this way..

and dear Lord, there is NO WAY you could ever give Keith and his family enough comfort thru these trying times...

Forgive me Lord for this, but this comes from my heart....... If you need a life, so that this young man may live, then take mine dear God.
I'm ready to go... This young man has a life left to give... me, you've given me a good life, I'll trade mine for Corey's....
