Busiest time of year but....

We have a temporary delay.

Posted By: wabigoon Re: Easy Afternoon - 05/08/21
You deserve a break Sam.

How's caving going?
Posted By: SamOlson Re: Easy Afternoon - 05/08/21
It's going Richard, maybe 50 head of late cows.
Posted By: BC30cal Re: Easy Afternoon - 05/08/21
Sam;
Thanks for the video and the weather update contained therein.

The last year we were on the farm '83 I guess it was, the worst snowstorm of the winter was May 8th.

It started around 7:30 or so and by 9:00, I was off the field as I couldn't see where I'd been with the 60' deep tillage cultivator as it was snowing too hard. By noon there were banks 3' high in the yard.

I remember that as I went home for lunch that day, which was a rare thing during spring.

My good wife and I had a coffee and I says to her, "If this farming thing doesn't work out, we should move to southern BC. It's likely past cherry blossom time already and you can get a sun burn out in your short sleeved shirt by now."

Anyways as you know Sam, farming didn't work out, we did move west and the rest is history as they say.

I hope your weather warms up before the Heineken runs out Sam. All the best to you all.

Dwayne

Glad you are getting some moisture finally.

Nice rain turned into a wet snow.

34F on the prairie now.

First decent moisture we've had all year, party time!

One inch of much needed rain here, Praise the Lord.
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: Easy Afternoon - 05/09/21
Like Sam said....first real moisture of the year.

No water in any of my pits.
Posted By: Stormin_Norman Re: Easy Afternoon - 05/09/21
This mega drought was caused by global warming and we need to send Al Gore some more money to stop it. Al said Polar bears are going to go extinct in Montana if we all don't start driving electric cars and eat more tofu.
Posted By: stxhunter Re: Easy Afternoon - 05/09/21
damn, we could have a good time if your old lady would tolerate me.

Gentlemen, thank you all for the replies.

The grass really is truly amazing, and I appreciate the appreciation.

Da Duck did not mean to appear aloof yesterday but he was preoccupied with a niece, nephew, SIL, wife and of course that delicious skunky brew.

This afternoon is much quieter.

Contemplating drinking beer two days in a row.

And another fire.

I am heading to town for a bottle of Beam and a box of Club crackers.

White or Black label?

I used to love the black.

We have the extra fancy multi-grain Club crackers.

They pair well with a nicely aged cheddar.

I cant afford no black label.

I was thinking a nice club cracker with arugula and watercress salad.
Posted By: SamOlson Re: Easy Afternoon - 05/09/21
Oh cry, what's the black, another $4?

Live a little cuzzin'!

Jealous! Man we could use a shot of rain up here. We just barely missed that one. Have not had any moisture since last September. About ready to park this thing and have a whiskey myself.

....Montana has likka stores open on sunday?

Kindly responses only please...

C, you are styling!

Road that rig down and seed our little wheat patch....lol

We had 6-7" of wet snow back in October and until yesterday that was about it.

At least with this last rain there is hope for more.

I bet you a $100 bill that you guys catch a good rain in the next week or two.

Seems like we get one and then you guys get the next one.

Any wheat left in the bin?

Talk about a hot grain market.

SC, pretty sure Jim has a key to the store...lol
Posted By: C_Hell Re: Easy Afternoon - 05/09/21
Haha alright I’ll road her down. Probably have to wear my neck brace. These damn tracks are rough on roads. Pretty decent in the field tho. It has seemed that in recent years. I get on here and start b**ching and pretty soon we get a little shot. We only grow durum up here. We are sitting on a pretty good amount but seems like wheat is hotter. I think the price is about the same right now, where as durum usually holds a premium. I’m down in that wolf point area some now since my fiancée from there. Will have to swing in some time and have a beer.
Posted By: SamOlson Re: Easy Afternoon - 05/09/21
I'll do a rain dance for ya....

Might work better if Jim did it though...lol

I'm gonna be snoopy and ask who the lucky lady ought be?

PM if you don't mind telling.

Not to be a downer but I just heard that yesterday a 20 year old college kid home on break suffocated in a fertilizer accident out at Ag Partners.

Sad deal

Oh no that is bad news. Wonder what kind of deal that was? Think it was anhydrous? It’s Hannah Hafner. Bill and Shelly Zahradka are her parents. Hannah is a chiropractor in plenrywood now she worked in a scobey with Lund for couple years.

Sorry to hear.......sobering thing....condolences to the family.....
Posted By: SamOlson Re: Easy Afternoon - 05/09/21
C, I know Bill and Shelly, Hannah is a lot younger than me so I don't know her but you are the lucky one, congrats!

Bill Z is our go to for any electrical questions. Great dude..

Wave at Shelly almost everyday on the highway. They live a few miles down the road from my folks....

And any time I shoot a decent furred up coyote I give Bill a ring and he picks it up.

That man is hell on fricken yotrs....lol

Ask him about the time I put a frozen yote on the top of a stack of round bales. The next morning I found a skinned version in it's place. Right off the highway, Sunday morning, I had to take it down before the church crowd drove by....

Still laugh about that one.

Again, congratulations!

I'd much rather have it be April 9th right now compared to a month later.

We'll be the last ones to get done farming, again.

It was so godddamn dry and dusty we put off branding a couple bunches of calves.

Turn out is 5/1 but there is more feed at home now compared to pasture.

Mad dash to get pairs out and wheat in the ground!
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Easy Afternoon - 05/10/21
Sam, the only race is to be that last one sold out.
