We still talked about “going steady” with someone when I was a kid. Kids today probably don’t use that term anymore. I haven’t heard since my youth in the 80’s/90’s.

My steady high school girlfriend wore my class ring with thread wrapped around it so it would fit her slender finger.

We divorced within 5 years.

I started going steady with a girl and then she started smoking.

So I had to slow down and use some lubricant.

#CrazyOnes

The best kind are the ones who start clinging when you treat them poorly. Think about it , there’s only one way the relationship can go after that . Every 5 years just barely treat them better.

If'n I was of the age and single, I'd have Tinder on speed dial.

It was an odd circumstance to be sure, but from the start of my sophomore year in college, I had a Friday night steady and a Saturday night steady. I had known Friday night since high school. She was tussling with the idea of becoming a nun, and I got her off that idea. Saturday night was a modern dancer. I met her the weekend before I started my sophomore year.

Saturday night followed me home from a party. We spent the next day together, and then I walked her to the bus to go home. I had a prior date arranged with Friday night and walked over to another stop just as her bus arrived. Friday night got off the bus and immediately started talking about how she'd been thinking about us getting serious.

The next few years were pretty wild. Neither one was what I'd call marriage material. Both were pretty neurotic. They ended up knowing about each other, but never seriously complained. The dancer was Jewish, and her parents would have never condoned marriage to a blond German Protestant. The wannabe nun was determined to be a clinical psychologist and was not going to tie herself down. There was also that Protestant/Catholic thing.

It all ended abruptly after I graduated. I had started occasionally seeing an oboe player, who'd been a cocktail waitress for Larry Flynt. This liaison lasted throughout the winter. In spring, I had caught a bad cold and canceled all engagements for the weekend. Friday night came by on Saturday afternoon to tell me she had decided to break it off. She'd met the man of her dreams, a German Catholic named Ernst. They ended up getting married.

Saturday night had become too clingy to accept that I might actually be sick. This led to a downward spiral that eventually became stalking. I finally had to tell her to get lost. That didn't work, so I got the cocktail waitress and a couple of other friends to let on that I'd caught the gay. That worked. The cocktail waitress and I had a brief fling that ended a few months later.

There were too many girls to go steady with one, still are.

I guess I went steady a few times but I don't recall ever calling it that. More like repeat dating with no restrictions on dating others.

Gone steady? You mean real officially going steady? Once for about a week. Only got inside on the top, so I moved on. Then I turned 14.

Best way to stay friends. She has no right to change you into being the proverbial Knight in Shining Armor ( and without any armour).

My sophomore year in college, I was dating a gal for a while but we broke up. A month or so later I showed her. I had a blind date with one of her sorority sisters set up by a different sorority sister 😁. We got married after I graduated and got commissioned. It’ll be 49 years next month.

Yeah, happiest time of my life. High school sweetheart was a treasure. Graduated #1 in her class, and chosen as top high school athlete in the county (not just female athlete). I worked on her daddy's farm weekends, sometimes after school, and summer. He liked me a lot, but her mom (who controlled the substantial purse strings) didn't think I was good enough for her little girl. So that was that, after three years! I will always miss her.
