I have a Aneurysm on my right side of my head.. a brain DR wants me to see a specialist surgeon..he said it was more than he could handle.. so I am going on the 23rd for a appoitment...anyone with that type experiance?
Posted By: Old_Toot Re: Aneurysm - 07/12/21
Hubert the doc must not feel that it’s an immediate, dire, pressing emergency or you’d probably be in surgery already, one would think.

Two older relatives have them and their sizes are being monitored every several months or so. No I’ll effects to date for either and they lead normal lives for their respective ages.

Best of luck, Pard.

I've not had the experience but my father suffered from an aneurysm in 1965 and died a couple of weeks after surgery. He was in a very good hospital and good neurosurgeons. That was, however, 1965 so I imagine that the neurosurgeons, their techniques, equipment, and medicines are much more advanced.

I wish you the best and a complete recovery.

A bleed inside the skull is not good - and would expect that you will need a precise vascular surgeon - maybe with a neuro doc in the room. Modern imaging is probably precise enough for them to monitor sufficiently in the meantime. I wish you every success with any surgery and a quick/full recovery.

My uncle was diagnosed with an aneurysm about a decade ago. The procedure for his involved inserting a platinum wire coiled up within the bulge to reinforce it and prevent it from ever bursting. He was 66 then and 10yrs hence has had no issues that I’m aware of. Still cuts wood everyday to the tune of about 40fc per year.

I hope the docs choose and execute a plan that’s equally successful for you, Hubert. You have my prayers for a successful outcome.

Do you have symptoms? How did they discover it?

Gawd

Can it wait that long?
Posted By: doubleDs55 Re: Aneurysm - 07/12/21
I have never heard where they can take their time about it either, kinda weird I thought.
I suppose there is different levels of seriousness about them ?

blurred vision.. that would go away after about 1 hour.

My Aunt had one, they did surgery and she did fine been about 17-18 yrs ago.

If it is an aneurysm, go immediately to a good radiologist and get it taken care of right away. In about 50% of aneurysms the patients die, and about 25% have mild to severe stroke symptoms afterwards.

Aneurysms are as serious as a heart attack. My good buddy died from his, a person I worked with wife, survived but can’t walk due to the aneurysm, or sub arachnoid tear.

Get it done now!
Posted By: wink_man Re: Aneurysm - 07/12/21
Go get it taken care of IMMEDIATELY !!!!! I lost my mother to a brain aneurysm in 1974 at 44 years old, never sick a day in her life and she was gone as it burst.

Don't fool around and wait, even a slight increase in blood pressure from getting aggravated at something can cause them to burst.

Get it immediately and you'll be fine, good luck.

The 50% fatality is roughly correct for ruptured cerebral aneurysms - his is not ruptured.

While a good a interventional neuroradiologist can handle most situations, my strong personal preference would be an endovascular neurosurgeon if one is available. If things go really awry, they have more options.

Good luck to you Hubert.

"The procedure for his involved inserting a platinum wire coiled up within the bulge to reinforce it and prevent it from ever bursting."

Are you sure that's what they did? Aneurysms burst outward like a balloon. Your description sounds more like a stent to open a blocked artery.

My first wife was pregnant with my oldest when she had an aneurysm start leaking. This was in 93. After about a week trying to get it diagnosed she was operated on. The aneurysm was clamped, but the surgery caused the brain to swell and she spent about 20 days in the hospital.

My Dad had one at our Business in Ohio in 1982. Drove himself to the hospital. Docs sent him down to Florida for 6 weeks. He came back in 4 and went back to work. It never caused him any other issue that I know of. He died last year of an unrelated illness.
On another note a girl I was in college with got up one morning and came out into her living room. She told her roommates she was feeling tired and was going back to bed. They came back from classes a few hours later and found her dead in her bed. They said she died of a brain aneurysm.
I suppose they have made good progress in diagnosis and treatment since then.

I get an MRA not on my brain every 24 mos at Mayo Clinic.

They told me to be mindful of double vision and and a sudden extreme headache.

Most people don't know they have one until it busts. I know two pilots that had them and were caught in time. They were never cleared to fly for the military again but the FAA cleared them and they continued their civilian career. Prayers for restoring your health.

Have you looked into the possibility that it might be the effect of the poisons/ chemicals that they have been injecting?

There have been folks who have suffered from heart and vascular injuries following chemical treatments for cancer. I can't say what you should do. I went through tremendous stress from the murder of a family member. Overnight, I had severe varicose veins from the corrosive stress reaction. I decided to improve my diet and supplement with nutrients that assist the repair and restore elasticity to the veins and other blood vessels.
I've also suffered deep vein thrombosis. A medical expert said there was nothing non drug related that I could do and it would continue to cause pain. I decided to seek other information that was not in that doctor's kit bag. With The Lord's help to give me what I needed, the clots dissolved and I can now walk pain free because it healed.

Perhaps there's some ways to detoxify and build yours too?

I will pray for Divine direction and healing for you Hubert.

To your health.

The new technique is transluminal coiling of the aneurysm which causes it to clot and scar down, preventing future rupture. Opening the skull is not required unless there is a need to evacuate a bleed after the aneurysm has ruptured.

The OP is fortunate that the berry aneurysm - a congenital malformation - was discovered while asymptomatic. Neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists and interventional neurologists, specifically trained in aneurysm ablation are the experts in these less invasive procedures.

Most important key to success is the experience - as measured by volume of cases and documented results - of the intervetionalist and team. Good luck and ask questions to allow you to make a good choice.

you should take care, but I question your doctor's lack or urgency.

I just got a call tonight, that an acquaintance's dad was just taken to the hospital with that problem..

the bleeding has turned that bad... the hospital suggested they get his father's affairs in order, if not already done so.

I hope your's goes better than Jay's dad's is going...

His dad is my age exactly....born the same year. He had a TIA in March and one in June.

Yes, I'm sure a good colon cleanse per Dr. Crappy Hamper's advice will solve everything.

My wife had a glob of malformed blood vessels in her brain that began leaking. Once she found a surgeon talented enough to discover the problem, he fixed it. This was almost 30 years ago. She's still kicking with no ill effects. Seems like it took about a week or so to get over it. I'm sure the technology for such things has vastly improved since then.

I had one 15 years ago. The urgency is based on the size of the aneurysm. If its small, there is no immediate threat of it rupturing. Fortunately these days, the surgery is typically coiling so they don't have to cut open your skull. Basically, they send up a scope through your femoral artery in you leg up to your brain and shoot a coil into the aneurysm. Blood clots around the coil and it protects it from rupturing. Its practically outpatient surgery.
They keep you overnight and send you home the next morning. There is about a week recovery where you can't lift anything. If they can't coil for whatever reason, then they will have to do actual surgery and the recovery can take up to a year. I don't know how your pre-existing conditions will affect all of this. You will have to take blood thinners for a short period of time so that the blood does not clot too quickly around the coil.

Embolization is the opposite of stenting. They are called coils. They block off blood vessels.

Don't get medical advice from gun forums.

FWIW, I worked almost 5 years in IR. Been in many different procedures to address ruptured and non ruptured cerebral aneurysms.

I don't want to add any possible problems from the surgery . I am willing to take the risk because I think it is the right decision for me... Thank Jesus for me ... Hubert

My Father in Law walked around with an AAA for ten years. His was inoperable due to blood thinners because he had an artificial heart valve. Much different than your issues, but with parallels.

May you kick cancer's ass and then get the aneurysm repaired. Peace be upon you in the meantime.

Three surgeries later and they monitor her every year, she got her limit of Turkeys this year and is waiting to see if she get drawn for elk or deer in special hunts. Mu Uncle died of one and they say it runs in families. Thank god for the Doctors at Stanford.
