Does anyone do it, I’m cleaning out my freezer and thinking of putting the really old meat in a slow cooker with some peas and carrots for the pups
Yes --- good way to use up old meat and I personally believe it is better for my dog than kibble.
You guy's talking about my mom's cooking again?
yep, i use old meat, frozen vegetables and some rice and cook it up. dogs love it
A commercial on TV for dog food called "the farmers dog"
I laugh when I see it, as my grandfather fed his dogs that during his entire life.
Table scraps & left overs.
I also use brown rice
My dogs like green beans, peas, carrots
And meat.
My little doggie Sparky was allergic to commercial dog food. Made him scratch his belly all the time to where he scratched the skin off. Read the label some time and see what kind of nasty chemicals, you are feeding your dog!
I had to make dog food for my little pal. First I put 10 pounds of chicken thighs and drumsticks in the big 4 gallon pot in a few gallons of water. Water started to boil, I added one pound of dry brown rice. In ten more minutes, I added a pound of dry lentils. After a half hour, four pounds of chicken liver.
Boil it for 45 minutes total. Put the hot pot in 5 inches of cold water in the kitchen sink to cool. Repeat the cooling. Remove the chicken and remove all bones. You got about 20 pounds of dog food, which is better food than 95 percent of the people on Planet Earth eat, all kinds of protein, complex carbs fiber, and B vitamins, and no chemicals. Put two pound in the refrigerator, and put the rest in Tupperware in the freezer.
This food cured my Sparky and he loved it!
Slippers...... my dog loves slippers.
Wife makes it for ours sometimes. Rice, older meat out of the freezer, carrots and beans.

Go for it.
It's better quality than dried kibble.
To keep it past the day, just pour it into meal sized containers and put it back into the freezer.
Buy the book "Foods Dogs Die For."
It has plenty of recipes for decent home made dog feed.

Your pups will love you more than they do now! My dogs tell me they like it much better than kibble.
Chicken and rice here. Sometimes old meat from freezer hate to throw it away.

People who don't spend all their time on 24HC ?
It took me about 2 hours to cook up a batch of homemade dog food. But that was a 20, to 25 pound batch, so it lasted quite a while.
My Wife used to make a home made raw food diet that she sold locally.
She'd freeze it so it would "keep"
Did a LOT of research on this before making it. VERY healthy for Dogs!
More like they would eat in nature.

That would be acceptable.
Lotsa Karens out there think that freezer meat is unsafe to eat after 20 or 30 minutes of being frozen.
Probably 2010, we bought a whole pig that worked its way down to the bottom of the freezer probably 40lbs left for starters
With cats, you just got to feed them meat. They are carnivores. But dogs are omniverous and can and will eat grains etc. Loading up a batch of home made dog food with a pound of dried brown rice, and a pound of dry lentils, you just can't beat it. All kinds of benefits for your doggie. While you are at it, when the batch has cooled down, add four or five tablespoons of linseed oil. Very good for your doggie.
Happy dogs
Mine love frozen back strap l, that and cube steak.
Vicious fights break out, Labs are cool with each other till the meatsicles come out
All the small bits and pieces from processing deer gets cooked down for dog food. Even pressure canned some is small jars once. We have a friend that feeds her dogs raw meat on the bones and comes by and picks up the deer bones after I am done processing. I will leave a little extra meat on the bones for those dogs.
