Watch these stunts. Buster Keaton and guys like him must have had their ambulance on standby

Impressive stunts.
Here's a good write-up about some of those stunts. With that falling building where he's framed by the window, Buster Keaton said later that he was out of his mind while some of the film crew hid their eyes so they wouldn't see him crushed.

STUNTS
that is a good read, thanks
They apparently do not show clips of the ones who died.

What happened a lot back then was that the animals died, especially dogs and horses, when making the big budget war and cowboy flicks.

It was nuts what some of them did ... and even nuttier what little the stuntmen were paid, with no health or injury insurance and studios reluctant to pay hospital bills.
Stumbled upon his The General train movie on TCM a few years ago.....nearly laughed myself silly watching that.
They used to use trip wires to cause horses to fall. Many had to be shot after breaking their legs. I recently saw an old western with a horseback gunfight. Every time someone was shot, the horse fell down. It got ridiculous.
Just like in porn, actors/actresses get paid according to what they are willing to do. Few to none get famous without being some sort of a freak.
