ZZ Top was the bast 3 man band of all time!
Posted By: Morewood Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
Dang, RIP Dusty. One of my favorite bands, ZZ Top. Saw them live back in the 70's.
Posted By: saddlering Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
Got to see them play in Houston in 1980, was Great!
Posted By: 1911a1 Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
Damn, R.I.P.
Posted By: JeffyD Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
How can ZZ Top continue without Dusty? This is really sad.
Posted By: rong Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
I see a blip on the innanet the other day that he had to bow out of the current tour,,,,
Sad indeed.
Posted By: Poconojack Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21

Saw them in concert at Madison Square Garden on Sept. 24, 1983.
Posted By: hanco Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
Great band, saw them many times. They didn’t talk a lot, most talk too much.
Posted By: ATC Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
My wife and I saw them twice in the last five years. They still put on a heck of a show. RIP Dusty.

I've seen them twice. My wife just bought tickets to see them at the county fair in September. It won't be the same without Dusty on stage.
Posted By: rong Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
Says he had a hip issue and had to back out of tour.
Posted By: rem141r Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
he must have had a lot of problems. i had tickets a couple of years ago and they canx because of some ailment of his. they were one of my favorites. saw them for the deguello tour in 1980 and again in the early 90's. i highly doubt they'll continue as a band.

Yep! Saw them many times. Met Billy Gibbons once, too. Bought a bottle of his branded Tequila from him and he autographed the bottle.

On a related note, they were advertising on the local Radio station that ZZ Top was scheduled to perform 60 miles south of here in a couple of weeks.

RIP Dusty !

How many of us can relate to that song ?
Posted By: Morewood Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
Dusty and Billy had a bunch of little choreographed "moves" when playing live. Used to spin their guitars on their belt buckles.
Posted By: Sako76 Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
Saw them in Madison Square Garden in 1973 or 74, RIP Dusty.

There was a story that he got gut-shot when his girlfriend was pulling
off his boots. A Derringer hit the floor, they said. Who knows.

Yep. I remember that Mike.

Here’s what he said about it in an interview:

“It's an incident that still makes Hill cringe, as he admitted during an interview in early 2014. "My first reaction was: ‘[bleep]!’ And then ‘Ouch.’ I couldn’t believe I’d done something so stupid. To this day, I don’t know how I could do it," he shrugged. "But I didn’t really feel anything at the time. All I knew was that I had to get myself to a hospital straight away, so I got in the car and drove there. It was only when I arrived at the hospital that the seriousness of what I’d done hit me, and I went into shock."
“Fortunately, Hill fully recovered, and was back in bass-playing shape by the time ZZ Top reconvened to record the follow-up to their hugely successful 1983 album Eliminator. The result, their ninth studio set Afterburner, arrived in the fall of 1985 and helped the band close out the decade as one of rock's top acts.

This news made me very sad, one of my favourite bands since I was a kid.
Posted By: MAC Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
That will probably bring an end to the band. Gibbons can and probably will play with someone else but I don't see ZZ picking up another bass player. Some shoes can't be filled.
Posted By: MuskegMan Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21

They were a great 3-pc band for sure. Saw them live twice.

Dusty was a mediocre bass player though. RIP Dusty.

The rev Willy G is one of my all-time fav blues/rock guitarists.

RIP to the young man anyway

They started about the time the Johns Manville plant shut down.

Dan Halen had them play at some of his shindigs I heard. Private concert type stuff, Rich bastid that Halen guy.

Yep. There will never be another Dusty Hill.

He and Frank Beard actually started the band.
Posted By: gonehuntin Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
I only saw them twice: New Year's Eve in Dallas/1980-81, and when they opened for the Rolling Stones in the Cotton Bowl on Oct. 31 1981

72 is way too young to go.
Posted By: chlinstructor Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/28/21
There’s a great Documentary on them on Netflix.

“That Little Old Band From TX” I think it’s called.

Out of the lesser played stuff on the radio. I always thought this one had great vocals and a driving beat.

Just heard about it last night.. Damn... ZZ Top is my favorite band of all time.. I've been to probably eight of their concerts and they never fail to deliver.. Unreal how much music can come out of just three players..

RIP Dusty..

If nothing constructive to add, please back away from the keypad.

Sheesh

One of the best episodes of King of the Hill featured Dusty as Hanks cousin. As for the music, I pretty much like it, though for three piece groups, I'd rather listen to Primus.

Saw them live in 1984. The Eliminator tour with Quiet Riot. Didn't really care about the opening act. ZZ Top put on a great show! RIP Dusty!

The Eliminator tour was also the first one I attended, but I honestly cannot recall who the opening act was.. It might have been Lynyrd Skynyrd...

I was really hooked after that one.. smile

Live yes, but they turned into a 4-piece studio band: bass, guitar, drums AND SYNTHESIZER.

“Take me with ya Jesus” - Dusty Hill
Posted By: hardway Re: Dusty Hill RIP - 07/29/21
I liked their older stuff like “Brown Sugar”…. The newer stuff was cool but they lost the bluesy sound that they started with.
