From their first album:

Why'ntju douse that light:

Roy has a bass player and someone who can actually sing
I partied a bit to this song. Many times.

Yeah, maybe Dusty and Jack Bruce can team up on a song or two.
How many of you border dwellers ever played this song on the way down south:

Another killer from the first album, not many people know
Dusty was also a great singer. I always thought he had a better voice than Billy Gibbons. Billly was more of a “growler”
Dusty could actually sing.
Also read once that he was a big Elvis Fan.

Kinda explains his version of this song:

Good one! Or this one too:

rong,

That might be their "best" album in my estimation. Whole lot of good songs on there.
chlin,

Was always a good time when he and Billy did "duets".

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Yes it was!!!

Especially like in “Beer Drinkers, Hell Raisers”

I believe this tour was the only one I had the privilege of seeing. And it was a good one:

"One giant piece of craziness"
Hard to believe he's gone .

Agree,solid first album.
Love the early blues stuff.
Was just tell the boys,we have to catch them when they come thru.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who played this on the jukebox on payday:

I just got paid today,
Got me a pocket full of change.
Said, I just got paid today,
Got me a pocket full of change.
If you believe like workin' hard all day,
Just step in my shoes and take my pay.

I was born my papa's son,
When I hit the ground I was on the run.
I had one glad hand and the other behind.
You can have yours, just give me mine.
When the hound dog barkin' in the black of the night,
Stick my hand in my pocket, everything's all right.

I just got paid today,
Got me a pocket full of change.
Said, black sheep, black, do you got some wool?
Yes, I do, man, my bag is full.
It's the root of evil and you know the rest
But it's way ahead of what's second best.

Good music . Really good

Good stuff Buddy. I prefer their music from that era. Still listen to it all the time.
Last tour I saw was the “Eliminator Tour”. They came through town that year in 1983 or 84 I believe. It was good, but I still prefer the older music they made.

I looked it up on the Web. January 18th, 1984.
RIP Dusty.

Saw them perform twice. Best two concerts I've ever been to.
Met Billy Gibbons once, too. Bought a bottle of his branded Tequila from him and he autographed the bottle.
Happened when I was visiting family in Austin, 1996 or so. He was at a Liquor Store promoting his brand of Tequila. He’s a small fellow.
Compared to me, anyways. 🤠
Yeah, I'm more a fan of their older stuff. Once they got into drum machines and synthesizer type stuff they started losing me. A few songs still hit the mark though, just because of the subject matter. Pretty sure I know a gal or two I either said this to, or wanted to say:

LOL. At least they had the Cool old Car during the Eliminator Tour. They brought it along and had it on stage when I saw them that year in 84.

When you're drivin' down the hi-way at nite
and you feel that Wild Turkey bite..
Just gettin' right on a Saturday night. wink

Yeah,

and hotties in the videos!
This one reminds me of my College Days:

Read a article years ago where Billy Gibbons said he lived on TV Dinners for several years.

Ask and you shall receive.

And not the remastered version, I found someone posted the vinyl version:

I drank a bunch of beer with Billy 12-14 years ago. He came into the brewery I ran, asked about some beers, invited me to sit and drink with him.
He was a hell of a nice guy. Funny, engaging, and down to earth. Gave me tickets and backstage passes for their next show.

Yeah.....skinny fugger. Maybe 6’ tall or so in his fancy shoes but I doubt he went much, if any, over 160#’s.

Yep. He was nice. I figured he was 5’11” maybe 150.
Guess I should’ve taken a “selfie”. At that time I was 6’ 3” And 250.
This is a tune that is sort of Cajun/Zideco/Country Western, They didn't do many like this.

I’d believe that Roger. He had on a pair of high healed Cowboy Boots when I met him.

How many knew they were environmentally conscious back in the day? And Dusty's bass stands out some.

Woman, grab your children, run and hide.
Don't let it catch up with you.
You gotta fight it to stay alive,
and if it gets you, man, you're through.

It smells so rotten and rank.
Well, everybody calls it the squank.

It's sick, depressin, gettin' bigger all the time.
Don't help it any way you can.
It's grey and brown and sometimes lime
and it's spreadin' all over the land.

And soon we'll be all breathin' out of tanks
if somethin' ain't done about the squank.

The meanest thing the world's ever bred
by me and you and my kinfold too.
A monster can't live unless it's fed,
and it's being fed by me and you.
And soon it's gonna leave the world blank,
and we'll all be erased by the squank.

It was pretty interesting.

We must be about the same age. Those tunes: La Grange, Tush, X, I'm Bad..., Cheap Sunglasses....well, damn. I guess I just got a little bit older.

Godspeed Dusty.

And those songs are at least a decade apart. Hill might not have been the powerhouse of that band, but was damn sure an important part.

Dusty Hill and Frank Beard started the band. They hired Billy Gibbons.
Probably a “pretty good” decision, though. 😬
In case this come up

At the time Jimi Hendrix was asked who the best git tar player was.

Jimi said Billy Gibbons

Yup. He is the master of harmonics. For those of you who follow such. Of course, there will be some fringe types that will disagree.
That's the way it's been said for years.

Yep. I remember reading that.

ZZ Top opened a show for him, IIRC. Jimmy Hendrix was apparently impressed.

I’ve got a friend who’s cousin’s of The Vaughan brothers. SRV & Jimmy. Evidently Billy Gibbons and Jimmy Vaughan were big rivals in the early TX Music Scene. Mainly Dallas & Houston.
I was told Jimmy Vaughn was extremely jealous of Gibbons.
Claimed BG stole “licks” from him.
In my opinion, Jimmy Vaughan couldn’t hold a candle to Billy Gibbons.

On the other hand, SRV, though, was the best blues guitar player that ever lived, IMO.
Any pics?

lol

Jeeze dude

Youre getting like CCCC,

You give up your seat for Rosa Parks too?

😃
