Is it true that trolls up post counts for the "Fire" and therefor add to the bottom line via advertisers receiving more exposure?

Does it make sense that even when long term members leave because of the trolls that the trolls more than make up for those lost views of those members?

Business strategy question.
I guess they do some good for the site. There is an ignore button.
Must be rickbin let's them do whatever they fugging want.

We got advertisers? Huh.
I use TrollBlock Plus. Never see the commie troll’s posts.
The resident village idiot troll on this site posts 3-4 times just to make a point, gotta be the post count king you know.
Yes.
Yep
The more they post
And the more clicks generated
The better the site
Doesn't matter if some long time members get tired and leave. They're barely posting anyway.
Didn't realize only hard heads were allowed here. First amendment eh?
Doubt it matters enough either way to matter either way. Ignore.
Only if you feed them.

What’s the first amendment have to do with trolls here?
So if trying to keep score, A troll post is a plus one. A ignored troll is a neutral. A fed troll is a plus plus plus. A lost member is a minus of unknown.

I wonder if new members are attracted and stay after witnessing threads deteriorate from troll interference? My guess is no. And if I guess is correct...trolls win short term. But site declines in the end.

Thoughts?

Rick Bin let's everyone pretty much do what they want.

Three things will piss Mr. Bin off, not keeping your word, Lying to him, and pornography.

I can't say as though I disagree with any one of those things.

Agree.
But, I'm glad we don't have a bunch of twats telling us what we can't say. Kissing moderator ass is a nogo for me. I've gotten a lot for my money here.

This site has been successful for a very long time, so Mr. Bin is not to be second guessed on his approach. And we surely would not invite censorship. It is free as anywhere I have experienced. The troll issue is a sign of our times. Sadly, it really takes away from exchange of ideas in a civil way.

I just wonder how it will play out if it continues or escalates.

Really? I guess we shouldn’t second guess anyone for making a dime, even if it promotes communism. For [bleep] sake, even Bezos, Zuckerberg and Dorsey censor what they don’t like, they don’t care about the money. Not this [bleep] place.
Sometimes you need a set of balls to run a business in a way that reflects your beliefs, sometimes you’re too big a pussy and worried about a nickel to do so.
They make good fill at the bottom of the hole if they got the balls to come around and talk as such face-to-face personally

A couple of people have found that out the hard way.
IDGAF what Rick Bin does. How he runs his site, or who he let's on here.
I disagree with some decisions, but I disagree with so much anymore
it's like breathing.

If Rick reads this and kicks me off. Good to have known Ya!
If I get to where I dislike the site. Good to have known Ya!

His game, his rules.
I don't have to play.

New members try to wade into the pool slowly, only to get dragged into deep water from the jump.

They either swim, drown, or get eaten by sharks within the first hour.

Some think they can swim. Most realize they can’t. Those that hide a speargun in their bag have a fighting chance.

Cue Jaws music

Keep this on the down low, but it's the liberal trolls that keep this place alive. Without them the forum wouldn't last six months.

And pics of Barry are always good for a few more posts on thread cussing the sender?

Don't be giving away secrets.
If the Lib Trolls left, our hunting/shooting/flag living site would die.

It ain't about trolls but about the 'traffic' a website / forum / blog / etc., generates. The bigger a website / forum / blog / etc., gets the more time and expense it requires to maintain it. Traffic (views) is what draws income producing advertisers. The more views the more advertisers want and will pay tor ad space.

A troll is merely an effective arguer that proves their point. They become a troll when the less effective arguer bans them and censors their speech
I actually think there's enough variation in thought here to allow discussion without the need for trolls. Back off on the attack mentality and interact rationally with each other and learn from our differences.

Oh fuuck that was hard to type!
Rick Bin runs a successful business. Who am I to question his methods. I respect the fact that he lets things freewheel, even the trolls.

This place is an anomaly as far as latitude goes these days. As I've stated before, I don't think you can put a price on what we're allowed to do here. Where else can you learn about chunks of asbestos in Frosted Flakes, and ultra cool .22 centerfire conversions from DD and Muffin. My new guy two cents.

Lol, great explanation of a Troll by a Troll.

So your measure of how to run an ethical web site is Bezos, Zuckerberg and Dorsey?
There's the door MFr.

Was that your best rationalization for why you can not compete linguistically?

Agree, My thoughts exactly. There is no way to police what is said and still have free speech. It is a matter of civility.

Depends. You have to weigh both sides of the question. Some may click more, some may leave. I seen it.
The original post was about the effect of trolls on any site and the long term outlook.

That premise has drifted to other aspects of trolls. You cannot have free speech while restricting what can be said by an opposing view, yet the socialists think you can as long as they are the decider.

Civility is probably out the window from here on out, if it ever existed at all.

Was it Mark Twain that said "Don't argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". At some point there is no value in the conversation. Or any conversation.
@OP, Correct. More clicks and more traffic = more $$$$'s for the site owner.

Simple solution to address trolls is to put them on "ignore" and then, simply ignore them... Unfortunately, just like many folks cannot turn away from watching a wreck, many folks on this site cannot turn away from responding to a troll...
