Lost my big tellow lab yesterday after a few months of him slowly going downhill. My wife and I had gone out of state to wind up our downsizing at the new house and had left him at home in the care of a friend when we got a call to head back ASAP as was having difficulty breathing.
15 years of love and devotion towards everyone he came in contact with.
Sit, come, stay, roll over or chase the ball ? Nope none of that for him as he was just a big baby that loved hanging out with mom and dad.
He came into our lives as a scared little puppy from a kennel and from that point on never left my side.
I'm gonna miss our long walks so damn much it hurts.
RIP Max.

Sorry to hear.
If God made a mistake, it was the life span of good dogs.
I feel for you man.
All of us who love dogs know what you are going thru.
Dogs are family.
Loyal, Smart, Protective, and in tune with their humans.
2 species that evolved together going back eons.
Sorry about you losing Max.
Condolences to you and your wife... sorry for the loss of your buddy Max.... pic lets me know he was a beautiful animal.
I wished dogs lived a lot longer than they do....they are more deserving than many people in today's world.
A dog like Max is not only a friend, but a blessing...
you will have him greeting you when your times at St Peter's Gate.
Losing a good dog hurts so much. RIP Max.
UH Huh....know what ya mean and feel. I lost more than I care to count.
I actually remember my first dog, long before starting 1st grade.
"Rover" lol, was a black/tan G shepherd. Mom and Dad could NOT spake me 'outside'
GROWL -- TEETH !!
They had to take me INSIDE for corrective administration. L O L
I still remember 65+ yrs. ago.
So sorry to hear this...take care of yourself. RIP Max !
The only thing worse than a master losing his dog is a dog losing his master.
Remember the good times. Dogs are a blessing.
The only thing worse than a master losing his dog is a dog losing his master.
I believe you're right on that as whenever possible we would have a friend take care of him while we're gone for a few days or longer.
Always seemed to take a toll on him mentally until we were back home for a day or two.
Hate to heat that.
Good boy, Max
Sorry you lost your Pal 284.
Good Boy Max, good boy.
I’m a bad person. I don’t get emotional over people dying, but I have cried like a baby over some of my dogs...
Max looks well loved !
RIP Max
We don’t really outlive them, they take a whole era of our lives with them.
Hits like a hammer, I know. You were lucky to have such a fine dog.
RIP Max.
This is why we don't have another dog.
Yet.
That's a tough loss, condolences.
I truly feel your pain. We lost our yellow Lab girl in August last year and my 14 yo black Lab in May. Both were constant companions and I’m still grieving their departure. I worry about a new one outliving me now….
I feel your pain, had one just like him. Wouldn't listen for chit but just the most loyal "duffus" you ever met. Still miss him 20 years later.
Yellow labs are the best.
Very very sad. He looks like a good doggie.
I hate opening these posts.
Condolences.
I'm so sorry about your Max.
Sorry here too...I just went through it with my GSD this spring....it damn sure never gets easier with repetition.
Sorry to hear. Lost my boy Cody in February and it is still painful.
Sorry for your loss. Been there many times but found I havent been able to go long with a new best friend by my side and love the next one even more.
Sorry you lost a dogger. Be Well, RZ.
It's never easy. Sorry for your loss.
VERY SORRY for your loss. Only time will ease the pain but nothing will remove it.
My girl (see my avatar) just turned 8 and she is definitely slowing down. I dread the inevitable because she is the best dog I ever had. We are thinking about getting a lab pup real soon to give her company. My breeder has some blacks coming but I may hold out for another yellow.
Hang in there and feel good about the care and love you gave him.
Good Dogs are better than most people.
Faithful companions and protectors.
Losing them never gets any easier, and it shouldn’t.
My condolences on the loss of your Max.
Good boy Max, rest easy old friend.
Denny no words I can post will fill that giant hole in your hearts. Just know your Fire friends understand.
Someone posted this poem when I shared we had lost our Lab.
Good Boy Max, Good boy...
Just an old broken down dog
is what I've come to be.
My senses are all growing dim,
My eyes can barely see.
But master, you're still in your prime,
while I am fading fast,
Please take me with you one more time
Before I breathe my last.
You used to take me with you
To the woods when I was young,
To do your bidding faithfully
In my youth when I was strong.
My best's no longer good enough,
I'm useless and confused:
For surely you must care for me
as much as I for you.
I'll be waiting by the back door,
Take me with you when you go.
It's all I've ever wanted
and the only thing I know.
I'll struggle up and wag my tail,
Eager your will to do;
And gladly endure a painful walk
Just to be with with you.
Take me with you when you go.
One more time I long to be
with my master and my friend.
Take me with you once again.
Sorry to hear this, it hurts to lose a best friend.
I’m sorry OP. Good dogs are hard to find and harder to let go of.
Good boy, Max. Good boy....
Sorry to read this Denny. Most of us have BTDT, so we can empathize with you. Take solace in getting him out of that kennel and giving him 15 years of happiness.
Really hard losing them. Sorry to hear it.
I'm sorry for you Pard...its gut wrenching to see them go. I can't prove it with scripture, but I "hope" there really is a Rainbow Bridge where they are waiting for us! Grief takes a bit of time to run its course, but it must run its course.

I shouldn't have read this poem. Still hurting from losing a faithful companion almost 6 years ago and my current buddy is somehow already 5½.
Condolences on the loss of your pal, 284.
Max,good boy.I hope you are playing with my Max now.
I just got a new lab to replace the 3 I put down in the last year. Boy that stung, but the new pup is helping my heart.
I hope you can get a new best friend soon. Best wishes.
Sorry to hear about your dog. They leave a big hole but lots of memories when they leave
Sorry for loss.. we have 3 labs, 2 legit brothers born 6 months apart younger brother was accident litter. The older brother is a yellow loves to lay next to you, his brother is a chocolate and is the biggest goof ball you will ever meet. We make our bed and 15 minutes later he’s on the bed destroying it. This past January our daughter got a 3rd lab he’s a chocolate lab and he’s a character. We still have a few yrs with the two older.
So sorry for your loss. Their lives are way too short.
Jim
Sorry to hear that. It’s like losing a beloved family member.

Without seeing the rest of that dog, I'd swear it was a smooth coat Pudelpointer.
Condolences. They're the best part of us. My black lab Max is 8. I hope the grieving passes quickly.
Sorry about Max, Denny. I know that's tough. You all had a good run at 15 years with a lab. You darn sure were doing something right.
Yep,15 is a great run with a lab.
Sorry for the loss of your buddy,
