Beer is PROOF that God loves you and WANTS you to be happy.

Me thinks Mr Franklin was a wise fella.
And they drank that swill pizz warm back then.
Cheap, domestic macros especially. None of that fancy, hi fallutin, proper and refined microbrew crap for this guy.
I drink beer and LOTS of it, because I enjoy BSing with friends, drinking beer. Those nasty, hoppy concoctions make me full and feel bloated after just 1 or 2, and then I want to go to sleep. If that was what I wanted, I'd just cut to the chase and drink whisky.

I’d agree. Today I accompanied most of my family (save
My wife) to a Reds game. I have imbibed of a good many Oz of this sweet nectar of the gods. A big hamburger sammich with the family. Now a fried egg over a slice of cheddar. I am warm, happy, content and in strong agreement with the afore mentioned Mr Franklin!

Unless one can tell in the taste experience that could knock one's appendage in the sand.
I did the firearm safe handling training for youth day at our gun club today. It was hot and humid. When I got home a 1/2 liter of black beer sure was good!

You don't have to drink filling beer to drink good beer.

You’re off topic, Jim. This thread’s about beer.
chelada,
is that the beer with bloody mary mix?
I don't drink much alcohol, but I've heard that Leinenkumicgel's Hofbrau Collaboration Lager is quite tasty, as are their Oktoberfest and Summer Shandy.

I guess. It's got salt, lime and Clamato.

Coors Original is good and not as filling. So is MGD. They just give me an atrocious hangover after 5-6, let alone 10 or more.

I have become my grandfather...
When I was a wee lad we used to visit my aunt and uncle in Oklahoma. For the trip back, gramps would load up the trunk with case after case of Coors. I was terrified we'd end up in jail for bootlegging. Now I make an annual pilgrimage to visit my dad in Montana and bring back case after case of Moose Drool. My new fear is if I'll have the necessary travel papers for next years trip.
Just enjoyed the creamy brown ale with the weekly Boboli.

Hate trendy microbrew. Bud light cans. I do love some red stripe though. I’ll grab 4 or 5 cases in the beginning of summer for the shop.

But all was not lost because of the beer, family and a day made good.
I “hopped” on the IPA train a few years ago but I’m a hobo no more. IPA had become like drinking electricity. There are a few good ones around but I’m getting to where they make me a little hot looking for a claymore (or angry cat) to swing around.
Lately I’m migrating back to good sound porters and stouts. Honest mellow and rich. I still like a good lager but lately want lager to be bright crisp and oh so cold. That’s where the joy is for me these days.
Mr Franklin would no doubt be pleased and join in the conversation but alas….
I can roll with PBR.

I'm pretty big into craft beer. And I'm a Hop Head, the higher the IBU's the better. I also like a good Porter or Stout during the cooler times of year. Barrel Aged is even better.
Before Covid I would take several beercations a year to visit different breweries or beerfest around the Country. I plan to go to Bavaria in 2040 when the oldest brewery in the world has its 1000th year anniversary. I'll be 84 then and a few of my drinking buddies will be in their 90's. Gotta have a plan!!!
At one time I probably had around 300 different beers in my beer fridge. Now days I try to keep it under 50. Different beers that is. I usually have "choir practice" most afternoons in the door of my shop. Anywhere from one to 3 or 4 of my buddies may drop by.
I've had the Samuel Adams Utopia that was mentioned. At the time it was about $150 for a, I think, a 20oz bottle. They make a different one about every 2 years.
I like Michelob Ultra Pure Gold the best.

Staropramen was a decent Czech pils. Haven’t seen it in a while though.

I hope my taste for beer eventually comes back. Actually I hope all my taste eventually comes back. Throat cancer treatment has left me with a dull, almost non existent pallet. I was told at least a year or more for all of it to return, ifitall will return. Beer right now taste like crap to me. Enjoy it while you can folks.
To be honest, I can't tell many beers from another. All the USA commercial beers taste alike - except for a few like PBR, Sam Adams, Shiner, and one or two others. I do NOT do "light" beers that taste like fizzy air. Nor do I do beers that list hops as their primary ingredient.
I agree completely with the poster who quoted the German Beer Purity law, known there as Rhineheitsgebot: Beer must be barley, hops, yeast, water. That's all.
"Light" beers were invented to appeal to women. That's historical fact. If you drink stuff like Natty Light, you must have two X chromosomes.

What about that manly Natty Ice? 😁
That purity law throws out all of the major American commercial brands.
I’m thankful every damn day, trust me.
I had in my own personal opinion an above average palette, you don’t realize how discriminating of taste you have until you loose it. A guy who has had 20/20 or better vision their whole life and then in a blink of an eye (pardon the pun) wake up one morning with way below vision ability then realize how well they saw. Sudden lost of Tastes is exactly like that.
He had two shots at it.

Lagers that aren't too strong, but for my limited taste, Modelo Negra is a favorite. Dark Lagers do get my attention, containing roasted hops that give off a coffee or a slight hint of chocolate.
Wanting the best of many worlds, great flavor that's not too bitter& doesn't bloat as bad as some.
My test is not just a first taste or first glass impression, but a 6 pack. About 5 or 6 of any tend to change how ya feel about taste IMO.
Give Warsteiner dark a try.
Drinking one of those Bud Light Cheladas right now listening to Warren Zevon.
You almost never see those things, Chelada’s, up here. Pal from TX turned me onto them. First time he was selling me onto trying one I had really low expectations. They’re delicious! Hard as hell to source up here though. I can’t imagine a hunting or fishing trip without them now.
When you get in the boat around 4 am, to be on your spot and dragging lead by sunrise, you’re going to be drinking by 9 am latest. Those cheladas and a bag of Snyder’s jalapeño pretzel bites make for fiiiine boat fare.
The Rhineheitsgebot is kinda retarded.
It had more to do with protecting grain for bakers and originally only had 3 ingredients listed as it predated any real knowledge of yeast. It really doesn’t factor at all.
If you want to try some great continental style beers, check out some local breweries. Many are turning out world class beers that aren’t shipped from Europe, warehoused, and trucked to hell and back with out refrigeration.
Check out winners of the World Beer Cup or the GBAF in styles you might like. Hopefully some of those are available in your local. Better yet the brewery.
I haven't yet found a US brewer that gets Kolsch just right.
Try Chuckanut if you can.
For a while I had a connection who got me cases of Kolsch flown straight from Germany on planes coming to his facility for maintenance. Climate controlled in the passenger area. I was spoiled.
Give Warsteiner dark a try.
And, there lies the conundrum. Not available for shipment to KY.
Hell, we couldn't get Yuengling here till 2018. And then it was a disappointment, to me any way.
I'll simplify it a bit, A decent everyday beer, lager style that might be available mostly nationwide.
Then maybe a weekend or special treat beer that can be found this side of Nashville.
Thanks.
That's what I thought I gave you.
Is KY that lame for beer?
Yeah. Hell, counties still dry to this day. It's changing, but just in the last decade.
Backward yes, & for the most part that's damn good. I'll take backward over so many of the recent modern problems.
The only thing I truly don't like are IPAs ... and some of the Asian imported "beer". I like ambers, porters, and stouts.
My favorite is Sam Adams Cream Stout. Haven't found it for sale here in over 10 years. Been calling around. Nobody in state seems to have it or can get it. WTF? I'm almost afraid now that if I found it, it couldn't live up to expectations and memories. Looking for a new favorite.
My favorite domestic is a bottled Budweiser. The headache that accompanies it though is rough. Bud light is my go to treats me fairly well the next day, dependent on the amount.
I can’t fathom drinking enough Bud or Bud Light to get a hangover.
20+?
You just wake up with a hollow, sorta weak feeling.
