Sweet! No idea what’s it worth but pretty cool to have. Where did you get it?

Care package from father in law. Estate sales in Arizona ya know. Retired folks have the life.

Don't drop one, you may end up needing a manicure, or worse!

No way, keeps the yotes from trying to jump the wall.

I once hunted with a smart old man who stuck his dirty draws on his downed bucks horns. He left the deer to come back to camp get us to help drag it back, when we came upon the deer it had chit stained draws on the horns, I about died laughing. He said it keep the wolves and yotes away.

Guess you can learn a lot from an old foogie.

Lol.

The father in law would have known who made the obsidian knife. Perhaps if his Mom is still around, she might know.
He mentioned estate sale, so it sounds like he passed or bought it at an auction.

The stamp "Made in Germany" on the empty sheath is all I can see of origin of a totally different steel blade that isn't in the picture, but probably quality. The reinforcement rivets added to the stitching isn't very common in my limited experience, but assume it's to protect stitches when resheathing the blade. The snake skin and cord suggests a handmade sheath.
IMHO, the value will be much higher with positive ID. Perhaps a knife makers forum would shed some light. I would also check all obsidian knife makers in that area and call around.

PS: DBGM is stamped too. That might just get you somewhere if there's a blade to go with it.

learned a long time ago, from an old timer or two, when camping in the desert to cover the tops of your boots with your inverted socks.

Keeps a feller from finding a scorpion in them in the AM.

I’ll take the sharpmaker to it tommorrow and see if what kind of edge I can get it to hold.
