Social Security recipients to get cost-of-living raise of 5.9%, biggest since 1982. This raise pretty much affects all government pensions, military, VA, federal employees, etc.

Every time I get a SS raise, my insurance goes up the exact same amount. Always a wash.

That's enough every month to pay for the increase in gas prices...for 1 or 2 fill ups.
Posted By: RockyRaab Re: Social security raise - 10/13/21
Yup. Quite the coincidence, ain't it?

Vote buying

SS recipients should get as much as the illegal aliens biden is importing

Complaining about a bump in pay...

BFD, we are getting back a small portion of the 100s of 1000s we paid in over many years. SS is a huge scam.

I think it’s more about adding another cost put on taxpayers by this administration and the spending spree they are on.
More chickens are coming home to roost with this socialist take over.

S.S. is such a rip off but hey,it pays a few bills.I'm glad it's not my only source of income. If it was I'd probably be living off the grid and not by choice. If you go to a S.S. office, you will probably see most of the people applying,I'd say 80-90% are in their twenties and thirties and not in their sixties.
Posted By: hanco Re: Social security raise - 10/13/21
Well, that’s good, my SS will take a 500.00 a month hit when I retire Dec 31

Ha! You so right. Two years ago my wife got her citizenship and we went to the Social Security office to update her status and name change. There was one older man in his late sixties trying to get his payments started. There were six people under thirty trying to keep their coming.

On a side note: as my wife presented her actual citizenship document, the office manger asked her permission to show it to the other employees "so they can see what an REAL citizenship certificate looks like".

Not the ones that opposed socialist programs to begin with
.
Believe me I’d much rather had the money I contributed into SS in my hands to do as I please than the gvt giving me back what they tell me I get and when.

Most will not remember, but it was sold as a supplement to retirement funds.

Let's see now.....BB (Before Biden) inflation was holding at about 1.5% for years First year BB it jumps to 6% - and it ain't done yet.

"Building back better"......riiiiiiiiight.

Next years will be pushing 10% or more, I think

Its was just an interest free loan that they forced you to give them...and then decided how much to pay you back.

I deserve 10%.

Minimum of that.

Just because.

For those existing on just SS for years the COLA kept their heads above water. But Clinton & Gingrich had a powwow and screwed with the CPI index items.

It works to about an extra 8 half-gallon tubs of Breyer’s Butter Pecan ice cream.

Anyone paying attention knows that. And if you don’t then you’re one of those people that get excited over their spring “tax refund “......

Next thing you know, you'll be runnin' down the Murder She Wrote and Magnum P.I. shows.

Bonus show came on as I was falling asleep after HOCKEY last night. Jessica was on the show with Magnum! a twofer I tell ya'

Only thing better would have been if Robert Blake and William Conrad had been guest stars.

I don't think this applies to ALL military pensions, federal pensions, SS, etc. I have never seen an across the board raise for all entities. They all have separate budgets, separate purses... and differing processes for approval.

Why do I have a strange feeling that beer is about to go up.

Oh well, tit for tat. We got that $1200 stim check & my water bill from a leak I didn't know about was....... guess.

Any raise is good, I still can't believe I've received 13 SS checks.....and none have bounced.
Unfortunately my insurance is going up, because of my 'retirement' raise
Posted By: jnyork Re: Social security raise - 10/13/21
My property taxes go up about 10% a year, which will take care of any SS raise I may get. In one pocket, out the other.

Big guy in a Lincoln as I recall. Doubt he could fit in a Pinto or such. Back when TV shows still used 'murican made vehicles. None of these kids flyin' around in souped up Hondie cars.
